The hard left hate Starmer.

They will try and oust him.

Vote change vote Reform

Reform aren't the sort of change I want, so I think I'll pass on that. Even Starmer has a better idea of how to run a country than Farage does. That said, in the completely unlikely event that he wins, he'd probably disappear just like he did after the Brexshit vote.

Don't get me wrong, choosing between Labour and Conservative is like choosing between syphilis and gonorrhoea, but in that scenario, Reform are like taking cyanide.

Also, there is no mechanism for the hard left to oust Starmer, so stating that just makes any other argument you have less credible.

Well, Reform are entitled to have their own spin. There's no difference in the outcome though - it's dizziness.

And a good dose of vomiting, hopefully.

I don't buy your argument at all. Has the last 14 years of a whole string of Oxford PPE grads who have been a total disaster passed you by entirely?

Confusedbythistreat · 30/06/2024 10:22

Er, nope.

There are Lib Dems and the Green Party you know??

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha 😂

HauntedPollingBooth · 30/06/2024 18:07

magentarain · 30/06/2024 18:04

This is what differentiates the Left from the Right. I can accept that people who vote Labour/Greens/Lib Dems have their reasons, we just have different fundamental beliefs and priorities. The Left cannot CONCEIVE of people disagreeing with them. They must be mad, stupid or Fascist.

Well, I'm moderately left and I absolutely can see why some people want to vote Reform. The UK is an incredibly unequal country and I'd love to see real social mobility and levelling out. I just do not think Reform are interested in delivering that.

Qualifications do equal brains. No doubt about that in the vast majority of cases. Common sense, not necessarily.

@HauntedPollingBooth What reasons for voting Reform? Blind faith in Farage? Believing a load of cobblers ? Again!

No, qualifications evidence brains. There are other ways to evidence that. Back to James Galway - I have more flute qualifications than he does. He’s still better than me. He’s evidenced it by demonstrating his ability.

Saying someone without qualifications is intelligent and capable is in no way suggesting that qualifications have no value. I’m sure Rayner would say now that her path would have been easier if she had some. It’s just saying that not having qualifications doesn’t mean a person has no value or intelligence.

Indigenous population in Britain were Celtic Brythons (Britons).

right - and so 'Germanic' people coming to Britain in the 5th century aren't indigenous - what's to be done with anyone w Anglo-Saxon ancestry? Or Roman? Within written history Britain has always had ethnic diversity. Or does 'indigenous' just mean white?

I'm fully in favour of education. But saying that no education = lacking in intellect is both inaccurate and divisive. There are many valid reasons why people don't make it into higher education; failing to acknowledge that is to utterly lack in empathy.

Poncing about?
OK. No point in discussing with a philistine.
It’s an illustration. And I totally hate your disdain for culture.

Internationally renowned musician = poncing about...

Meanwhile Alan Sugar left school at 16 to 'ponce about' in business. There are other examples.

I would tell the world’s employers to take a more holistic view, yes.
Not necessary in this case because both as an MP and as Deputy Leader, Rayner has been voted in. People know what her background is, can see what she does, what she’s capable of, and voted for her. That’s democracy.

Im a consistentl Labour voter, not hugely enthralled by Keir but I remain Labour on most issues. I know loads of people voting Reform. I live in a working-class red wall area. Lots of trad labour voters completely disillusioned with the main parties. Lots of new immigrants have arrived here, no problems that I know of but when you're languishing on a housing list for years I can see where jealously and divide breeds.

The ‘intolerant left’ winds people in my community up. Less educated people, people with mental health problems are allowed to vote for who they want, even if they haven't thought it through and have just listened to sound bites. Also, lots of people I speak to claim not be racists but many do take issue with Islam. It is certainly a faith that does not align well with western values.

Good luck to those who 'take issue' with the religion of almost 4 million UK citizens - it's a multi-denominational country, and nothing anyone can do and no party they vote for will change that.

justasking111 · 30/06/2024 14:30

Put you in danger how, with a knife, gun?

Possibly; or just fists and general bullying.

One of the biggest threats to women in this country is domestic violence- which people like Tate encourage.

Do you seriously believe that? Half the population go to University nowadays. Plenty of jolly smart young people are now choosing apprenticeships and trades now that the fees and cost of living are so high.

My Trust has an apprenticeship scheme for people who want to go into nursing but who for whatever reason haven't been able to follow the conventional route. The people who go through it end up with a degree-equivalent nursing qualification that sets them up to progress for life.

Life is complicated and there isn't a single right way to do things. Simplistic thinking is one of the many things that are wrong with the Reform manifesto.

Errors · 30/06/2024 18:23

I will be voting LibDem
It’s more a vote for ‘not labour’ in my constituency. Because, while I don’t particularly align with Labour or Tory, I would rather not see any party get the whopping majority that Labour are bound to get, and I’d prefer an opposition that is actually noticeably different to whomever is in power.
I kind of hope that people are getting sick of the constant pendulum swing between the two main parties and do go and vote for one of the others that either aligns more with their views, or is more like to unseat either Labour or Tory in their area.

If I was to make the same mistake as others on this thread who believe that the people around them are a fair representation of the entire country and a microcosm of political views, then I will be expecting no fucker to vote. Nobody I know is bothering.

Total straw man argument. What I said has nothing to do with Blair or 1997. Blair made a huge mistake with his higher education policy.
