I'll have a go at answering your questions:

  1. Maybe just, I dunno, close them?
  2. Energy companies make BILLIONS in profits. Maybe the govt could mandate these companies to pass these profits onto consumers?
  3. As far as I'm aware, it's very much the left that wants to 'shut down any form of dissent'.

You're welcome! 🤷‍♀️

1.'Just close them'. Right - and how exactly do you propose that will be done? Reform are so inept they can't even control their own candidates as their racism is exposed one by one:
https://news.sky.com/story/reform-uk-drops-three-candidates-as-racism-row-constinues-to-engulf-party-13160889
2.So you want state intervention in a free market? Sounds awfully like a left-wing approach for someone who's so keen on a far right party and is led by the person who for decades complained about too many controls. You really don't seem to have a clue what you're saying
3.'As far as I'm aware' - well maybe do a bit of research eh? The Reform voters on here whinging about Reform candidates being shown in a negative light are hilarious - talk about trying to shut down dissent!

Reform UK drops three candidates as racism row continues to engulf party

Nigel Farage has been told to "get a grip" on his party as accusations of racism from his candidates continue to grow.

A big problem today is that a lot of people get their news from ultra left wing organisations like the BBC and they become indoctrinated and they brand anyone different as a racist or facist.

You have to be VERY indoctrinated to believe that the BBC is "ultra left wing" 😅😂🤣

How do you close The Channel?

forgotmyusername1 · 30/06/2024 13:55

Because brexit was such a great idea which has gone swimmingly...

Reform are going to surprise a lot of people.

Everyone I know is talking about them.

@MeadowL then perhaps you are living in an echo chamber?

rainingsnoring · 30/06/2024 13:56

'People who spoil their votes are idiotic and irresponsible'
Why @twodowntwotogo? You left out 'in your opinion'.

What makes you feel you need permission? It just shows the power and influence of the left in this country. They pretty much run the universities, the arts, the libraries, the BBC, and the publishing industry. And they've convinced people that to be good means to be left-wing. It's just nonsense. Some of the nastiest, most spiteful, hate-filled people I know are left-wing.

Labour are going to ruin people's lives. They'll allow immigration to spiral out of control, and then cover the green belt in disgusting rabbit hutch houses. What about people like me, who are introverts and desperately want (and need) fields and trees and space and silence? Why am I bothering to work? What do I get in return? My local woods have been hacked down to make way for two giant new estates, and a second huge estate has been built at the other end of the village. I feel like I'm drowning under a sea of new houses. I'm woken up at night by the screeching of boy racer cars, and kids from the new estates now sell drugs in the field behind my house. But I'm a horrible little NIMBY, so I deserve to suffer don't I.

I'll tell you this, if Labour win with a huge majority, and then they lower the voting age and fiddle with the voting system to ensure they stay in power, I will quit my job and live on benefits. I will sit back and take, take, take. If I'm going to be surrounded by housing estates and noise and anti-social behaviour, why should I bother working? I might as well give up, claim I'm ill, and go and live in a social housing flat. After ten years of Labour this country will be such a horrible place to live that there'll be no incentive to work and save – and nowhere worth living anyway (unless you are super rich).

rainingsnoring · 30/06/2024 12:51

Yes, I agree that it won't work currently, at least not on the whole populous. The campaign has been extremely effective.

However, what is the alternative? Be rude, patronising and dismissive? Continue to entirely fail to improve normal people's lives as the government of the day? Close your mind to other people's opinions and fail to learn from them?
Hoe exactly are those preferable?

I don't know what the alternative is. Opinion, politics and life in general has become incredibly polarised and a depressingly large amount of people (on both sides) are incapable of changing their minds or reaching agreement on any topic.

On the one hand I think if, and its a big if, labour are even slightly compotent in govermnet they should be able to arrest the decline of the UK, which would go some way to reducing the division in the country.

On the other hand, and I really hope I'm wrong here, I can see Nigel & Co getting a decent number of votes overall and continuing to stir up division by creating a narrative that they are rigging the system against 'sensible Brits' in favour of foreigners/leftists/whatever scapegoat is next in line.

In that case I think thinhs will continue to get worse until some sort of unifying event occurs, like a major war or natural catastrophe (or until Nigel gets bored of the realities of being an MP and fucks off across the pond to cause trouble as he originally intended).

Apparently TIkTok have taken down the live feed of reforms rally today as it’s been deemed as hate speech.

I can see why people would want them in charge!

@MeadowL

I think ReformUK have been on the slow creep since the pandemic. It’s survival if the fittest politics, and Covid pushed many to think that - actually I don’t give to much of a toss about my fellow citizens - so long as I’m ok, and I have my freedom to do what I want.
There were a core of posters here who sentiments on Covid were - word for word - ReformUK policy. Yet denied it was anything political when challenged.

Hitler got into power because the country at the time was in a state of depression. They were looking for a voice, they were concerned with personal welfare only. I think this is when very right wing voices are listened to.
It also concerns me how those with extremist, hateful and harmful views are attracted to ReformUK - even if Farage is careful to speak in a more diluted voice.

I don’t want to live in a world dominated by Trump/Putin/Farage.

I want my health - and the health of my family/others - to be considered and catered for when they are weak.
I want my special needs child to be funded and resourced.
This would not happen under Farage.

If you look at their manifesto or contract as Farage calls it, he wants to adopt a French style health system. It says vouchers will be given for the private sector for people who can't get a gp appt within 3 days, 3 weeks for a consultant or 9 weeks for an operation. It doesn't say whether the voucher will cover all the cost, but I presume it will?

Pip and Work Capability Assessments will be carried out face to face. Independent medical assessments to prove eligibility payments. Those registered with severe disabilities or serious long term illnesses would be exempt from regular checks.

Bringonthesunforthewashing · 30/06/2024 13:59

I am voting reform. So is everyone I have discussed the election with.

All my dd18 friends, their boyfriends etc.

Just saying we aren’t all morons surely? I am well educated.

My parents are too, they are also well educated.

So as far as I can see it, teens right up to the retired are looking for change and voting reform…

Everyone knows Reform won't get in this time but I think they are looking further ahead than that.

Aren't Labour misogynist with Keir"I can't bring myself to say what a woman is" Starmer and racist with their anti semitism.

Has Keir come out and supported someone who has been charged with rape and people trafficking?

Nigel has with Andrew Tate.

Missymoo100 · 30/06/2024 14:01

RafaistheKingofClay · 30/06/2024 13:31

In what way do labour and the conservatives have similar policies and objectives right now?

They are miles apart. If that’s the reason people are voting reform, you can’t exactly blame people for pointing out they might not be the sharpest tools in the box.

Ah bless, you actually think either offer any meaningful difference in any area of importance.

ToWhitToWhoo · 30/06/2024 14:01

Reform are utterly vile. Their precursor parties- UKIP and the Brexit Party- at least were focused on a specific policy: leaving the EU. It wasn't a policy that I agree with, but at least it's a specific policy, not just 'how can we be as right wing as possible'.

Their most coherent policies seem to be anti-immigration and anti-doing-anything-about-climate-change. Which are of course incompatible. If you actually WANT massive uncontrollable immigration, the best way to ensure it is to do nothing about climate change and make significant parts of the world practically unlivable.

But they also seem to want to be against all aspects of modern life; especially those that involve any human decency. Witness Farage expressing sympathy with Andrew Tate,

I'm curious as to why a self proclaimed intelligent and well educated person would vote for such a racist and bigoted party? Do those views align with your own?

Dragonsmother · 30/06/2024 14:02

I am struggling to understand if this is a rage bait post or genuine.

HauntedPollingBooth · 30/06/2024 14:02

@Cooper77 you've already been given the information on how much of the UK has been built on, but this:

My local woods have been hacked down to make way for two giant new estates, and a second huge estate has been built at the other end of the village. I feel like I'm drowning under a sea of new houses.
Has happened to you under the Conservatives. Hope that clears things up.

Countrygirl222 · 30/06/2024 14:03

Well my local Reform candidate is know as the local’nutter’. He had nothing sensible to say at the hustings apart from climate change is a myth etc. 🙄
He’s been banned from the local pub numerous times including for trying to sit there naked and for threatening his partner in there with a shotgun! He was removed by the police. He also had an altercation with someone fishing from his land and they ended up in the river.

I think you are right that the continued rise of these right wing populists is inevitable in the short-medium term because of mistakes that have already been made and greed that has become absolutely excessive.
It may be that Labour will make some small improvements, although I have seen no signs of this as yet and hold no real hope. I think that the UK, and other countries, will see the economic situation deteriorate more, possibly very fast, possibly more gradually and that this will inevitably cause more division and greater moves to populist parties. It probably needs to play out until people see that Farage, etc are just big talkers, serving themselves and no one else with totally unworkable manifestos. I just hope that the destructions (major wars, etc) are limited.

ToWhitToWhoo · 30/06/2024 14:07

And 'knowing what a woman is' (especially when it's men doing it) usually means 'keeping women in their place'. (See Farage's sympathy for Andrew Tate again.)

And antisemitism certainly occurs in the Reform Party.

They're just evil!!!!!!!!!!

If you don't like the two largest parties, you can vote LibDem, Green, for an independent candidate, or just spoil your ballot paper.
