Shut the borders, lower energy bills and hopefully shut people like you up.

How exactly can they shut the borders? This is a genuine question, because I don’t understand how it will work. It’s not like our borders are an actual physical thing, like a huge door you can just close and lock or a drawbridge you can pull up. It’s impossible to just ‘close our borders’ and stop all immigration - and we’ll still need some levels of immigration to sustain our society anyway. Even just stopping asylum seekers from coming to the U.K. isn’t possible. Nigel Farage might believe it’s possible, just by wanting it to happen, but I can’t see how it’s possible.

Viviennemary · 30/06/2024 12:40

Jifmicroliquid · 30/06/2024 12:32

Vote for who you like OP and stuff everyone else.
I haven’t voted Reform, but if their policies align with your values and you believe it is the best party for you, then go for it.

We all live different lives and have different priorities. The amount of childish responses to other people’s choice of vote only further reinforces my belief that this country is doomed nomatter who is in charge. We live in a democratic society and are free to make a choice, and should be free from ridicule about that choice.

Happy voting everyone!

There were countless pages of posts on MN calling the folk who voted for Brexit every derogatory name available. Gosh wouldn't it shake up all those mealy mouthed reporters up if Reform did better even than expected. I was going to vote Labour but tbh I don't really like them very much at all. Will need to have a rethink. Won't be voting Tory.

NewOrder · 30/06/2024 12:42

If anyone follows simply politics on instagram its very telling at what a pathetic attempt reform actually have in terms of any sort of policy. They have none. And people don’t care. All they care about is getting their country back; or whatever racist bilge they want to spout.

You do realise women can be police officers to don’t you?

So be clear there is a large man breaking into your home smashing windows. You would be happy if a woman turned up to take down the suspect. Honestly your children are in the home scared to death and you would be happy for a women with her little taser come to save you? Are you bloody serious you do know people on pcp have been known to take multiple shots with taser and still come towards you. God your idiocy genuinely worries

Shakeoffyourchains · 30/06/2024 12:44

rainingsnoring · 30/06/2024 12:21

I have definitely not voted Reform.
However, I do think that the sort of dismissive, patronising and rude responses on this thread are very much 'part of the problem'. It is, often, more educated, well off, left wing type of people who behave like this. Why not try to understand why so many people, of all different age groups are voting for Reform. That would surely be far more useful. In my opinion, it is mainly because of an obvious fall in living standards, which many of the well off have been entirely immune to so far.

Because that doesn't work. You can try to explain to someone that the fall in their living standards has nothing to do with boat people, the WEF, or the left all you want.

But once actual evidence is dismissed in favour of a meme or a three word slogan the battle is already lost.

The rise of reform is the perfect example. People are willing to vote for a limited company, with proven liar and conman at the helm and a manifesto absolutely riddled with falsehoods and unworkable rhetoric, because of the persona it has created. Facts, stats and evidence have no place in this arena, emotions rule supreme.

Or here’s a thought….

We stop promoting men with misogynistic views as protectors.

I don’t think it’s me with the deluded beliefs but carry on.

Also, you cannot request a specific type of officer when requesting a police response.

But you knew that.

I feel like a few of us need a good fist fight over this to clear the air, good old punch up

DannyLovesFanny · 30/06/2024 12:45

Not unreasonable at all, OP. You should vote for whoever you want to vote for, not who others say you should vote for.

It's just going to happen magically if you believe hard enough.

Alli88 · 30/06/2024 12:47

Why would you even consider voting for those proven racist scumbags?! Apart from that they have zero policies on anything, they're just hideous racists.

VoteOutToHelpOut · 30/06/2024 12:47

Kovus · 30/06/2024 12:39

Reform are going to surprise a lot of people.

Reform voters, that's for sure.

When they get only a handful of seats. When most candidates are made to stand down after the GE. When they fail to consolidate longer term voters over to the right, adequately to make the changes they want. You are all going to get gradually disillusioned.

And when Farage crosses the floor and joins the Tories.

ItsMeNotTheProblem · 30/06/2024 12:45

Ye exactly so you have just proven my point . The fact that women are in the pool of officers means it’s less likely you are going to get someone who can actually protect you. Thanks for making my argument for me.

DannyLovesFanny · 30/06/2024 12:48

SeriaMau · 30/06/2024 12:45

‘Shut people like you up’.
Yes, that is Reform.

It also applies to supporters of other parties describing Reform voters, as this thread clearly demonstrates. 🙄

Tukmgru · 30/06/2024 12:48

Loooooool at this whole thread. So the summary is

Reform Voters whinging about things they always whinge about, then they get called out on it, then they claim the Woke Leftists are trying to shut down debate, then there’s a vague and apparently unironic threat that Nigel will ‘deal with the likes of you’.

I used to think that the UK was progressing beyond all this but intelligence is a spectrum, and the same idiots who voted Brexit Party, and UKIP before them are the same idiots who will vote for Reform

Also to all those saying ‘it’s a choice, we all have to do what we think is right’. Yea that is the idea, but whilst a Tory or labour government will impact me and mine in some ways, a Reform government would actually split it apart and destroy it - alongside destroying the country. So no, it’s not something beyond criticism, and it is something that stupid people support.

I imagine some might take offence but I can’t see why - some people are really, really stupid, and whilst spread out to a greater or lesser extent across the major parties, they overindex in reform supporters. 🤷‍♀️

Angela455 · 30/06/2024 12:31

Shut the borders, lower energy bills and hopefully shut people like you up.

How do you lower energy bills by making yourself more reliant on the source of energy that not only caused bills to sky rocket in the first place but has been described by the producers themselves as having no long-term viability?

Susu54 · 30/06/2024 12:49

BlusteryLake · 30/06/2024 11:01

Literally nobody I speak to is voting Reform so I guess it depends who you speak to? 🤷‍♂️. Loads are voting Lib Dem though.

No one I know is voting Reform. We don't want Tories , and Labour are Tories by another name. So who is left? Where do you go?

That's like saying I'm sick of pasta and potatoes, I'm going to rub my face in shit instead

This is perfect!

I would seriously question the intelligence/character of anyone who voted for Reform. They're fascists.

Another one who doesn’t have a clue what fascist means the irony of someone trying to control how others vote while saying they are fascists is just chefs kiss.

It just baffles me how vile people get about it. I have friends who have very different political views to me, because they have lived different lives and different things are important to them.
I don’t feel the need to call them out, unfriend them or anything else as utterly ridiculous. I simply accept that we have different political leanings, we vote for who we believe fits us best, and then we continue to go about our everyday lives.

Same with Brexit. I know that several good friends of mine voted in favour of it, and that’s absolutely fine. They felt that way about it and they used their vote, as I did mine.

I despair of humans and their atrocious behaviour when it comes to elections and voting. People need to grow up.

DungareesAndTrombones · 30/06/2024 12:50

First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me

So no. I won't be voting for extremists, ever.

This. I will never vote for those racist, exist, homophonic horrors.

Tukmgru · 30/06/2024 12:51

My favourite thing about reform is its supporters complain about foreigners taking their jobs, but it’s the Reform voters queueing outside Wetherspoons at 11am jonesing for their first pint.
