It will be so interesting to see how many seats Reform UK PLC get. Five at the very most, I'd say. They will probably all make fools of themselves in Parliament.

Save yourself don’t make me laugh. You need a man to save you from an aggressive man and that man needs to be aggressive also. Not rocket science but if your happy letting your boyfriend cower behind you when the intruder comes that’s cool hahaha

The person defending you - or themselves - from violence doesn’t need to be agressive.

A bit of fear in those sorts of situations is healthy, natural and a good thing - it shows you’re human and also helps to protect you, as it helps you avoid those situations but also to think about de-escalating those sorts of situations if you ever find yourself in them.

Also, it shows you have courage - which is an excellent quality - if you ever find yourself in that sort of situation, you realise you’re frightened and then face up to your fear to protect yourself or others. It’s admirable. The people I most admire are people who’ve shown bravery in horrible circumstances.

This is exactly why Nigel Faragenwheb he says things like ‘strength is power’. It’s not - not unless you want to start a war or escalate an existing one.

rainingsnoring · 30/06/2024 12:21

I have definitely not voted Reform.
However, I do think that the sort of dismissive, patronising and rude responses on this thread are very much 'part of the problem'. It is, often, more educated, well off, left wing type of people who behave like this. Why not try to understand why so many people, of all different age groups are voting for Reform. That would surely be far more useful. In my opinion, it is mainly because of an obvious fall in living standards, which many of the well off have been entirely immune to so far.

Gosh the Russian bots are out in force today! Sorry, I mean the ‘reform supporters’ of course..

It's certainly interesting to see that many of these new reformers have a very similar posting style to the old tory defenders that used to plague these threads.

Rats fleeing a sinking ship spring to mind.

Joleyne · 30/06/2024 12:22

I've heard there are those who also believe in the Tooth Fairy and Father Christmas.

Frankly, they're more likely to deliver on their promises than Nigel Farage and his latest scam party.

wonderful misogyny on display here

1950s sexist attitudes are not welcome here

I would help any man who needs help. I don't need any 'man' to save me, thanks. you might be a medieval princess who needs saving, and that's fine.

OatFlatWhiteForMe · 30/06/2024 10:39

You are free to vote for whoever you like.

If I discovered any friend of mine voted reform I would view them very differently and stop socialising with them… but then again they would probably be as disgusted with my liberal, tolerant and caring outlook as I would be with their racist, homophobic and vile outlook so I guess it would be a mutual parting of the ways.

Same here. I wouldn't want to associate any more with someone who was going to vote Reform.

However you crack on and vote for who you like OP. Why should strangers on the internet care where you cast your vote?

Twiglets1 · 30/06/2024 12:23

I think Reform are going to get a decent amount of votes on July 4th so in that sense YANBU as plenty of Tories are sick of the Tory party as it currently operates and are willing to vote for a change to the current right wing party.

It’s not that so many voters want Reform to get into power, even Farage acknowledges that they won’t. It’s that they want to send a strong message to the Tory party (& maybe the Labour Party) that immigration both legal & illegal is a bigger concern to many of the electorate than they seem to appreciate.

Weird that the poster you quoted thinks men can either be

a) toxic
b) afraid, weak and cowering

I wonder if they have met many men.

pandasorous · 30/06/2024 12:24

only three kind of people vote for reform

  1. the ignorant misinformed
  2. the racists
  3. the misinformed racists

MeadowL · 30/06/2024 10:59

A big problem today is that a lot of people get their news from ultra left wing organisations like the BBC and they become indoctrinated and they brand anyone different as a racist or facist.

Come on, be serious! There are many things wrong with the BBC, but they certainly aren't "ultra left wing". The fact that you think they are, pretty well defines where you sit on the political spectrum

I do understand those reasons for voting Reform and I think we should absolutely do more as a society to address those reasons.

However, the government - and main political parties - need to do much more to help too. They’re doing nothing at the moment, and haven’t for a long time, partly out of complacency, laziness and as a political tactic (that of sitting back and ‘letting nature take its course’, and when people protest, the politicians will find someone vulnerable to blame for the situation).

This, of course, just fuels the rise of parties like Reform and encourages all the parties to move to their side in order to attract voters they might lose to Reform.

Viviennemary · 30/06/2024 12:26

I find it terribly irritating that the media are doing their best to smear Reform. Rishi Sunak accepted large donations to the Consevstive party from a person who made racist remarks. He admitted it this morning on TV. Hypocrital much.

Angela455 · 30/06/2024 12:26

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 30/06/2024 10:22

No I haven’t voted for them. They are disgusting and it shocks me anyone thinks they’re an option quite frankly

Why? You’re clueless, people like you are why the country is ruined.

Arewealljustloosingtheplot · 30/06/2024 12:26

Not my choice, but you can vote for whoever you want.

gentlemum · 30/06/2024 12:26

YABU to ask the question on here. Many people are voting Reform but also many people are too scared to admit it because the left wingers are the ones who shout the loudest, tear down anyone who votes differently to them, and labels everyone who doesn't think the same way as them racist. It's not a discussion worth having as there is no discussion. Left wingers will not accept anyone else can an opinion, as can be seen by all the comments saying if they know someone who voted Reform they would no longer speak to them.

Gorgonemilezola · 30/06/2024 12:26

Those voting for Reform Limited (do you realise it's a company, not a political party), could you explain why. Not the things you don't like about alternative parties, but the things you do like about Reform. Do you think their costings are accurate?

SocoBateVira · 30/06/2024 12:27

Whether OP is BU depends on how hard much of Putin's balls she wants her PM to have slurped on. If you're pro Moscow rather than pro UK, Reform is an ideal choice.

MeadowL · 30/06/2024 12:27

Reform are going to surprise a lot of people.

Everyone I know is talking about them.

With a few days to go, I still have no idea who to vote for...morally weak, bigoted, liars, self-serving, deluded, corrupt...describes all the parties...the choices are utterly shit. Politics is in a very poor state in this country.

The name calling and insults, though aimed at reform supporters, also doesn't sit with me, calling them thick etc

The main parties and MN posters need to question why they have gathered supporters and address those issues rather than relying on insults.

in my experience, most toxic men are afraid and cowering when the shit hits the fan

they never "protect" women, whatever the hell that means

all this posturing is purely evolutionary and is usually a sign that they are desperate to mate. having been unsuccessful so far in securing a mate, the base instincts take over and they go around doing the human equivalent of puffing out their chest and shaking their tail feathers. it would be funny if they weren't so vile.

Yes, of course the incumbent political parties are to blame. Their policies, particularly those of the last 14 yrs, have been a major factor that has led to this form of Populism. The UK is certainly not unique in being in this situation.

So please explain what your plan is when someone breaks into yo home. You just going to beg them not to hurt you. How naieve can you be

Wtfcuk · 30/06/2024 12:30

It’s great that we can have this debate now as if you vote for Reform ( and possibly even Conservatives) this kind of debate may not be allowed in the future. Reform want to, and Conservatives have also said that they want to, stop the government from being bound by the European Convention on Human Rights. Don’t let them dazzle you into thinking that this is all about getting migrants sent over to Rwanda. This will also remove our basic human rights including freedom of speech, freedom from inhumane treatment or punishment, respect for family life, no punishment without law, the right to life. A country without human rights will be a very dangerous place for us to live in. You like giving your opinion on Mumsnet? If Reform get in, this maybe one of the last times you are able to.
