To feel so upset and frustrated when things like this happen?

No one’s fault, just one of those things. Ds has weekly swimming lessons which aren’t cheap and for the past two weeks hasn’t been able to go because his costume has vanished. It turned up during the week but this morning had disappeared again. (Normally yes everything is ready but this week has been very disrupted.)

I am so frustrated and upset with myself I feel like crying. And yes am ordering him a new one!

This sounds like my house! I got so frustrated that I ordered DD a huge swimwear bundle from vinted. Swimwear everywhere now

Floating101 · 29/06/2024 08:45

Not hiding it is he?!

Testina · 29/06/2024 08:46

So he’s missing 3 weeks in a row because you’ve lost his swim shorts?
No local friend you can borrow from?

I wondered that ,does he enjoy swimming?

Just about to ask the same thing.

Mothership4two · 29/06/2024 08:46

Could DS be hiding it because he doesn't want to go? We didn't have the most organised house, but things like that would be 'somewhere' usually in the wash and would be found. Can understand why you would be frustrated OP.

He’s only three so no Smile

Normally I take him but felt pretty bad last weekend so asked DH if he would. I packed the bag with everything but then we got the timings confused. Went to get the bag now and costume has disappeared.

You can get kids swimmers for a few quid. Buy him another one?! Hmm

MissingKitty · 29/06/2024 08:50

Start packing the bag the night before

HcbSS · 29/06/2024 08:51

He needs more than one OP.

So last weekend you definitely put the costume in the bag, but then it was gone? 🤪
Good thing you checked the bag!
How did you get the time confused?

I do say in my OP that I’ll be getting another one but I can’t do that just before the lesson. There’s no need for the face, I’m upset with myself as it is.

@MissingKitty it was packed the WEEK before. But if the costume isn’t here it isn’t here.

In my experience, if you’re prone to lose things, buying a second can actually make things worse. When I have just one of something, I find I’m much more diligent about “a place for everything and everything in its place” - and things get put away where they should, straight away. If I have two, I get slack. And then I find I can’t find either!

Yes, but you can buy one at the pool, or, cheaper, supermarket on the way. My 3 yearold was plenty able to hide things. I used to find shrivelled veggies in my ornaments in rooms other than the kitchen!

sayhelloooo · 29/06/2024 08:55

It’s so frustrating because I always keep all the swimming stuff in one place. I just feel really bad for DS, there’s only a couple more sessions left until summer break. It’s one thing missing it for genuine reasons but through just bad organisation is awful really.

Long shot, but if you’re sure you packed it… is your husband an arsehole who is annoyed at being made to actually parent, and has “lost” them? Seems a leap, but frankly MN is full of arseholian husbands.

TotHappy · 29/06/2024 08:55

I'm not upset per se but I am unable to let go of a similar missing swimming bag. Dd has loads of costumes so it hasn't caused a problem but she went swimming with her aunty about a year ago and dropped her bag somewhere when she ran in. The bag has never been seen again. WHERE is it??? Aunty insists it wasn't left in the car and has double checked. Both insist she carried it in. It was her school drawstring bag with goggles, costumes, towel. All have replaced and forgotten now by all but me - WHERE IS THE BAG. It niggles at me when nothing else is on my mind. How can something completely vanish.

MasterBeth · 29/06/2024 08:55

Just buy trunks at the pool.

It clearly needed double checking OP which is better to do the night before than on the morning. It’s not a big deal missing swimming, just frustrating for you, but it’s obviously not actually just ‘one of those things’ that costumes walk off after packing, someone took it out or it wasn’t put in in the first place. So it’s best to double check the night before

LlynTegid · 29/06/2024 08:56

Use it as a starting point about tidiness and putting things in a set place that are important not to lose. Better that as a starting point and you may save grief as he gets older and keeps losing a bus pass or keys.

Even given his young age.

sayhelloooo · 29/06/2024 08:56

@Alittlefrustrated the thing is you’re doing that MN thing of assuming that because you or your child have or had your lessons at a pool that sells costumes and that you live somewhere presumably with lots of supermarkets and so on everyone does.

DS has his lessons at a private pool which certainly doesn’t sell costumes and the journey there is a twenty minute one through beautiful country but unless you want to buy eggs or fresh milk you will not spend any money!

OP posts:
Roundroundthegarden · 29/06/2024 08:57

How on earth is it getting lost. Seems ridiculous that if you physically packed it, it then disappeared? 3x too? How does that happen. Why doesn't he have two though ?

Testina · 29/06/2024 08:57

These 2 sentences just don’t fit together. When you say they turned up last time, where was that? An obvious logical mistake place like still at the bottom of the wash basket - or somewhere random which would suggest deliberate hiding?

sayhelloooo · 29/06/2024 08:58

@MissingKitty well yes someone must have but it wasn’t me and they didn’t tell me they had.

As I say it’s been a busy week, I’ve been very unwell and so everything is in chaos but I don’t get any particular sympathy for it so came here (ha!)
