To wonder when the excess of dogs will die down

There's so much shit everywhere

There are so many feral horrible dogs pissing on front doors or prams or shop displays and barking terrifyingly at kids

I am sick of them!!!!! Is this it or will people learn their post COVID lesson and only get pets they can actually handle in the future?

Yes, “all the dogs” absolutely should be at the very top of his list of things that need sorting. What an insightful post. Hope you take note Keir.

No way would Selfridges have let dogs in to their store. Unless they were Assistance Dogs.

They do if you carry them. Liberty lets you actually walk the dog around on a lead

OonaStubbs · 09/07/2024 22:34

One of Keir Starmer's first priorities should be to do something about all the dogs.

Like what?
What would you like him to do?

And considering all the shit going on at the moment, the fact you think doing "something" about all the dogs having to be a priority, is rather telling.

Well I've read he's making Downing Street dog friendly and moving a German shepherd into number 10.

Not sure what Larry the cat will think of that!

OonaStubbs · 10/07/2024 21:35

Bring back the dog license and make it strict.

Inspectors should inspect your home before a licence is granted to make sure it is suitable for a dog.

Only a certain number of licenses should be granted within each area.

vodkaredbullgirl · 10/07/2024 21:41

Not happening

OonaStubbs · 10/07/2024 21:58

Probably not. But it should happen.

asdfgasdfg · 14/07/2024 22:42

I live in a fairly rough part of east London, I live in a council house with no fence/hedge and dogs poop all over my front garden. I clear it at least once a week, with all the litter that blows in, when I cut the grass. DH (disabled 73) almost came to blows with a local lout who said as it was council property his dog could poop there if it wants. We found where he lived and he gets some poop on his doorstep fairly often

I'm so sorry you have to put up with such vile morons😡

I find it annoying hearing grown adults doing 'baby voice' to dogs - of course not everyone does that but I have no idea who does or doesn't when I first meet them - it seems to be quite common, unfortunately.

You sound highly strung.

Perfectlystill · 19/07/2024 07:07

Saying there is 'an excess' of dogs is an entirely subjective viewpoint.

I say never enough.

ZombieGirl86 · 19/07/2024 07:42

Perhaps whats needed is more enforcement of fines etc for those that dont clean up. I agree many many dont and its disgusting. However where i live most do. I love dogs and have one myself. I dont want less dogs i want more owners to act responsibly

Yes I agree with dog licences and then councils could use the funds from them to pay for to reemploy the dog wardens they've got rid of.

I'd also introduce a requirement that people have a pass for assistance dogs so there's no nonsense about people pretending they are assistance dogs when they very clearly aren't. People say you can't and shouldn't be allowed to ask for evidence, but you need a blue badge to pay in a disabled bay, so it's no different needing evidence that you need to take your dog into an area where they aren't allowed.

But given that they are bringing back the Tories' proposal to require landlords to accept pets in their properties unless there's a very good reason not to, I doubt there will be any changes.

I certainly agree with the assistance dog point. It is easy to buy a vest online that says "service dog", and put it on any old mutt. There is a lady in my town who has 3 dogs, all with service vests on. They are very badly behaved, and are often scrapping with each other. I really don't think they are genuine service dogs.

Notaflippinclue · 20/07/2024 17:13

Allow dog wardens to work on a basics plus commission for every successful prosecution that will sort things out

Mimilamore · 20/07/2024 17:19

I think most dog owners are nose blind... every corner between my house stinks of heated up dog wee. The neighbours garden stinks of warmed up dog wee. The sea front is better re poo but scraping it up and leaving smears still stinks...
Not the dog's fault but owners we don't all want to tolerate in eau de dog piss, it smells horrible, yes, even your fur baby's!

OonaStubbs · 20/07/2024 18:18

We should follow Turkey and have a cull of street dogs.

JamSandle · 20/07/2024 19:06

I dont understand how my neighbours can tolerate a garden full of dog poo from their dog. There kids play in the garden. I will never understand how some people live.

We don't have street dogs in the UK.

OonaStubbs · 20/07/2024 22:11

I see dogs on the street all the time.

Actual strays that have been living on the street for years? I don't think so.
Dogs are not allowed to roam.
Or are you wanting any dog you see out to be culled... even ones who have an owner?

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 20/07/2024 22:23

I don’t know where any of you live, but where I am in my town I don’t see any dogs wandering around the streets. Yes, I see dog poo here and there, but surely that’s on the owners.

Perfectlystill · 21/07/2024 08:50

What street dogs?

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 21/07/2024 13:56

Horrible post local to me on Facebook today, dogs have gotten into a field and ripped the jaw off a horse In there and the owners have never let on. There has definitely been a huge increase in the amount of sheep worrying, and other animals being attacked by dogs around here 🤬
