To wonder when the excess of dogs will die down

There's so much shit everywhere

There are so many feral horrible dogs pissing on front doors or prams or shop displays and barking terrifyingly at kids

I am sick of them!!!!! Is this it or will people learn their post COVID lesson and only get pets they can actually handle in the future?

What would happen if one of them had a dog allergy or didn’t like dogs?

They can't remember if they don't like dogs. And an allergy would be in the care plan.

Cangar · 02/07/2024 09:03

In Spain a lot of dogs aren't neutered, a lot of dogs are hung from trees to die and some dogs also have their feet cut off and left to die, so I wouldn't say overall it's a role model country.

Is this a thing or something that happened once or an urban myth? I’d say anyone cutting the feet off a live dog needs to be urgently found and restrained as they will almost certainly also be a risk to people. That’s properly psychotic.

Cattyisbatty · 02/07/2024 09:06

Dogs outside in parks - fine if they’re trained and owners pick up poo.
Dogs in shops - absolutely not. Leave them at home where they’re happiest.

8 dogs I had to negotiate on a half hour walk to town Saturday
It's ridiculous. At least keep them on your own property.

Don't you mean 8 dogs to stop and say hello to, a little chat with the owner and a nice endorphin hit.

Why would meeting some random’s dog give me an “endorphin hit” ?

It’s much more likely to increase my stress levels.

Dog was in the charity shop I was in on Sat, cocked its leg on the bottom of the stand. Owner ran out. 😳

I'm with you, OP. I'm a tree-hugging vegan and love animals, but I find myself starting to loathe dogs (I'm aware this is irrational, it's the owners I hate). I was in John Lewis on Saturday shortly after a dog had deposited on the floor. The smell was foul and a poor assistant was given the unenviable task of standing at the top of the escalator and guiding shoppers away from the pile of shit. Completely unreasonable.

I also hope that this horrible trend of cross-breeding dogs to make them look and behave more stupid with every iteration ceases, too.

OonaStubbs · 02/07/2024 10:18

Hopefully those robot dogs will be widely available soon at an affordable price.

In our case, it’s very much 8 dogs to stay well away from to avoid a nasty hit of histamine and leukotrienes.

They will all die off when I press the big button on my desk that will instantly vaporise every canine in the world. I'm holding off until the tasks currently carried out by guide dogs, sniffer dogs etc. have been fully automated. But it gives me great comfort to know that the button is there.

This.

I love dogs, am a dog owner, and can also be pissed off at other dog owners.
That is not a dog issue, it is an owner issue.

I think dogs and their owners are like cyclists... you only notice the bad ones.

Yes, this.

Sugartreemumma · 02/07/2024 12:21

I don't disagree that we only notice the bad owners, but the bad owners do outnumber the good ones.

Well I also notice the piles of 💩 in random places.

I have a beautiful poppy on my garden wall and, once again, some twat has let their dog piss RIGHT on it. Not even anywhere else on the wall. All over the one huge flower

Extinction2dogs.

I don't want them to be extinct. I just want their owners to be more careful.

I have one section of hedge that I've cut right back because it was overhanging the path slightly. (My late husband had paid folk to do the job, but they just kept letting it grow wider and wider. I've gradually been taking the width in.)

It's quite bare in places, but will grow back. In the meantime, I underplanted with flowers. I have to keep washing down the flowers because the ruddy dogs keep aiming for the flowers and the excess nitrogen kills them.

WearyAuldWumman · 02/07/2024 14:53

I feel sorry for the council gardeners who have to cut the verges with dog mess on them. Yes, they wear goggles, etc, but...Yeuch.

I hope it's soon! I was browsing in a small gift shop recently and a bloke brought his bloody great Alsatian in! Even if shops do allow dogs, doesn't mean you have to take yours in if it's clearly too big for the space. Entitled twat.

100% agree. I say this as the owner of a bloody great Alsatian. There are places he is simply too big for.
I’ve had dogs all my life but since Covid the number of dogs has increased massively and many are completely untrained.
Don’t get me started on those dog walkers who are incompetent but the job suits them. Some are really good but one local to me can’t control her own large breed dog; it’s barking and lunging and now the other dogs are joining in. She’s shouting and holding on for dear life. I would love to let the owners of the other dogs know what is going on.

I went to an expensive hair salon, which is a rare annual treat, and some stupid woman had a small yappy dog on her lap.

Same happened when I was in an expensive salon in Edinburgh...I go infrequently. My treat to myself.

The mutt left a surprisingly large puddle on the floor. A trainee had to clean it up.

My hairdresser uses to have a dog there and he’d curl up on my lap while having my colour done. I’m actually on the the we have too many dogs and they shouldn’t be allowed in restaurants side but this little fellow was adorable.

I'll add that if the dog owner had at least offered to clean up the mess herself, it wouldn't have bothered me as much. Instead, she smiled and sat there like lady muck. I don't care that she had her foils in.

Me too. And the ridiculous names they come up with for them. ‘I’ve got a Shardoodle’, ‘How lovely, we have a Poosation’, ‘We went with a Labrahound’

No, what you have are mongrels. You’ve paid a four figure sum for a dog that was likely created when its mum escaped the garden while in heat.

If the parents are known then they're classed as cross breeds. If there are 3 or more breeds involved then they're mongrels.

This is definitely a thing. Hunters do it to their Galgos (they're a bit like greyhound type dogs) at the end of the season either because they have no need for them anymore or they didn't perform well.

Is she aware of what happened to that poor dog walker in Surrey last year?

When will the excess of kids with iPads die down?
