To wonder when the excess of dogs will die down

There's so much shit everywhere

There are so many feral horrible dogs pissing on front doors or prams or shop displays and barking terrifyingly at kids

I am sick of them!!!!! Is this it or will people learn their post COVID lesson and only get pets they can actually handle in the future?

When will the excess of kids with iPads die down?

Start your own thread on it maybe? This is about dogs.

happyhemsby · 02/07/2024 18:13

Everyone seems to own a dog now. When mine die I won't be replacing them that's for sure. I don't want to be tied down forever.

Realduchymarmalade · 02/07/2024 18:19

It’s completely horrendous where I am (a Midlands village). And often it’s two or three dogs per person. There’s dog shit everywhere. Used to escape from it by visiting our local national trust properties but they caved to the immense pressure from the insane rage of entitled dog owners and now that’s dodge the dog poo also. It really has become intolerable.

Dontknowwhattodo2024 · 02/07/2024 18:19

Dog shit everywhere were I love. Apparently all the dog puss and shit is ruining the ecosystem and killing wilflowers

OonaStubbs · 02/07/2024 18:58

Something definitely needs to be done about all these dogs.

Realduchymarmalade · 02/07/2024 19:11

It’s bizarre when you see couples in their twenties and thirties stave off their natural desire to have children and instead get a dog which they are then insanely intense about and helicopter over the poor creature until it’s life has no bearing whatsoever on what is natural for the species and breed. This carries on for an interminable number of years before they panic and squeeze in a child at the eleventh hour. I’ve seen it happen so many times.

I’ve got a belting idea involving a fleet of C130 Hercules aircraft and the North Sea.

They’d never let me do it though.

I've said already: I don't hate dogs; I do hate feckless dog owners.

I'm seeing a lot of it because owners like to walk their dogs up to the football park and into the shrubbery and trees beyond it.

If you live in an area not used by people walking their dogs, then you're not likely to have the same problem.

I do live in an area frequented by lots of dog owners though, and, from my observations, these owners have been very careful about cleaning up after their animals.
I don’t doubt for a moment that there are owners out there who don’t care, these kind of folks are irresponsible, and really shouldn’t have a dog at all, and anyone having to put up with them and their irresponsible behaviour have my sympathy.

Sugartreemumma · 02/07/2024 12:21

I don't disagree that we only notice the bad owners, but the bad owners do outnumber the good ones.

I notice them all. I don't like the bloody dogs so yes, even if they have decent owners, I still notice and dislike the dogs.

OonaStubbs · 02/07/2024 20:18

I don't understand why dogs became so ubiquitous as a pet.

Bewareofthisonetoo · 02/07/2024 20:36

OptimismvsRealism · 28/06/2024 22:26

Yes which is why there need to be fewer dogs!!!!

Precisely!!

Because inadequate humans realise that while they are lonely and unwilling to put in the effort to have a relationship with a human, a dog gives them unconditional ‘love’.
Lazy and cheap replacement.

AngeloMysterioso · 02/07/2024 20:42

YANBU. I live in a nice part of a nice town, across the street from a massive park, and last week I came back from getting something out of my car to find a woman and her husband standing idly by while their dog took a piss in the middle of the pavement less than two feet from my front gate. A few days later there was dog shit there as well. I’m sick to death of it.

Or maybe some people are so fed up with dealing with inadequate, bitter and nasty humans, dogs provide the uncomplicated joy in life it’s hard to find elsewhere.

My family wouldn’t be complete without our animals, they teach people valuable lessons and children responsibility (if they’re brought up properly).

Just because you don’t like them or understand it, doesn’t mean everyone who has a different view needs insulting.

Dogs can piss anywhere if it’s not your property, why do you care.

Yes, because only single loners with no social skills have dogs.

It’s not great to have piss right in the middle of the pavement for people to walk on / buggies or wheelchairs to go through. Can’t people train dogs to go in more appropriate places?

I would rather have a dog, than be in a relationship.

I'm summarising but basically wolves 'befriended' humans thousands of years ago by being the bravest to scavenge our scraps and get close to us.
We then selectively bred them and subconsciously they developed paedomorphic features such as big eyes and it attracted our nurturing side.

Less than two feet from her gate? Who wants to walk through that?

Floofydawg · 03/07/2024 06:07

Mine will only pee on grass. But no doubt someone will have a problem with that as well.

I care because I have two small children, a baby and a pram, and I don’t want to have to dodge dog shit or puddles of piss every time I leave my house. It’s disgusting.

When will folk mentioning human children on threads about dogs die down? 😬

pimlicopubber · 03/07/2024 06:45

I was cleaning dog shit off pram wheels just yesterday. I used to love dogs, until I had children. My theory is that too many people who shouldn't be dog owners got a dog during the pandemic.

We've had several encounters of large unruly dogs jumping on my children. The dog owners always act surprised I mind, because their dog is soo friendly and it hasn't bitten anyone (yet).
Thousands of people are hospitalized in the UK for dog bites each year, apparently.

Apart from dog poop everywhere, i's impossible to have a picnic in a park in the area where we live now, because even if we are eating fruit, we are pretty much guaranteed to have dogs come and jump at the food or at least sniff around.

Clearly it depends what grass.
