There's so much shit everywhere

There are so many feral horrible dogs pissing on front doors or prams or shop displays and barking terrifyingly at kids

I am sick of them!!!!! Is this it or will people learn their post COVID lesson and only get pets they can actually handle in the future?

Any problems with pest dogs are only ever truly resolved when the dogs disappear.

Overseas, we had a lot of feral dogs and they would bite and injure people so they had to be dealt with. All at once.

Whothefuckdoesthat · 30/06/2024 14:05

Me too. And the ridiculous names they come up with for them. ‘I’ve got a Shardoodle’, ‘How lovely, we have a Poosation’, ‘We went with a Labrahound’

No, what you have are mongrels. You’ve paid a four figure sum for a dog that was likely created when its mum escaped the garden while in heat.

Or the pitbull / shih tzu crosses - just imagine a litter of Bullshits!

Hagpie · 01/07/2024 01:04

So much dog poo where I live and it’s always right in the middle of the pavement, not even the grass right next to it!

I see Turkey are about to carry out a cull of street dogs. Maybe the same thing could happen here.

Where is here? Because in the UK there’s no street dogs.

My family live in Ireland. No street dogs there?

So you don’t mean street dogs do you? So why the comparison to Turkey rounding up street dogs?

Or is this like you comparing dogs to in cigarettes?

MrsGrumpyKnickers · 01/07/2024 07:44

When I grew up in the 70s, only one of my friends families had a dog - they were the rich family!
And on another note, dogs in cafes and restaurants - WTF? Outside is fine but I really dislike trying to eat my breakfast with a huge Labrador breathing over it🤢🤮

Why is it that every time someone tries to have a conversation about shit dog owners, a bunch of them always pile in frothing with abuse and deflection?
You can tell the good owners from the shit ones. The good owners join a thread like this and say something like "I'm a dog owner but I trained my dog well, always pick up after it and I'm sick of these fuckers too" they will join in with the conversation because it bothers them too. Whereas it's clear to see the type of owners who we're all discussing (even if they say they pick up their dogs shit) because they just jump straight in frothing and derailing the conversation and they always compare it to "feral" "disgusting" "annoying" children. It's pure deflection and you can tell we've hit a nerve by how nasty they are about children (on a fucking parenting website too 😆)

Here's the thing: if you actually had an issue with kids then you'd start your own thread dedicated to it. It's clearly just some sort of "gotcha" designed to steer the conversation away from dogs.
It's also a ridiculous comparison. Maybe when you're having to dodge toddler piss and shit on the street every day, afraid to walk on any grassy areas incase some parent has emptied a nappy out. Maybe when kids are regularly jumping all over complete strangers with dirty shit or mud covered hands and sharp nails. Maybe when children start licking random strangers after licking their own arse or eating shit. Maybe when the presence of children cause people to have serious allergic reactions or when children start mauling and injuring people passing by or barking threateningly at them whilst fighting to lurch towards them. Maybe when we start needing to leash or muzzle children. Maybe then you might have a point.

This post is absolutely spot on.

I have actually seen one of the type of posters you’re talking about try to argue that children do leave their shit in public ie because occasionally a folded up nappy has fallen out of a bin or something. It’s pathetic.

I do think this might be a reflection of where OP lives? I do have a dog (that I most certainly don't take everywhere) but I have not noticed anywhere being over run with dogs. I see very little dog shit on the streets and only the occasional pile left at the park (which I will pick up if I've a spare bag). Where is it that OP lives, where the roads flow yellow with piss and there is shit caked up houses?

I live in a quiet little village with beautiful views, where most of the houses are privately owned.
Well over half the residents here have dogs. We have had to add an extra gate to stop people walking across our property due the the high number of people who would stop and quite happily let their dogs run across our flowerbeds, piss on our plants and shit right outside our front door.
The flowerbed is under my kitchen window and yes, it does stink when dogs piss on it!!
The surrounding houses no have 6 dogs between them and several times a day it sounds like we live in a dog kennel where they all loudly bark at each other for up to ten minutes at a time while their owners ignore them.
This is not a 'rough area' problem, it is everywhere!!

I know there are good dog owners - I have family members who are strict at training their dogs to behave - but the number of bad ones who have no idea how to train their dogs are ruining so many spaces for the rest of us.

It used to be seriously frowned upon to have dogs in restaurants due to hygiene and now they're everywhere. Why do dogs need to be in restaurants and clothes shops??
I'm sick to death of having dogs jump up at me while I'm out with my small children.
I even went to a museum a few months ago and someone had their labrador laying on top of the picnic table where people were trying to find somewhere to eat their lunch. It's disgusting and anyone who thinks it isn't must live in filth!

Grammarnut · 01/07/2024 08:57

Sugartreemumma · 30/06/2024 20:51

because
1)sheep poo is in the field, with the sheep, ie not a problem
2) poo from herbivorous animals is much less offensive and dangerous than that from carnivores.

Which most people don't think about, thus causing the problem. If you are bringing a dog then a bag to put the poo bags in seems to me a necessity. I don't know why people do not think of this.

fliptopbin · 01/07/2024 09:10

I keep hearing about the country being infested with feral dogs with their feral owners sending the country to hell. Yet I live in a village with a pub which is very popular with walkers, of which many have dogs. And yet there is never any trouble at all. I wonder if it is because the dogs have worked off all of their energy.

August1980 · 01/07/2024 09:58

XenoBitch · 28/06/2024 22:10

No.
Time and time again on MN, responsible dog owners are tarred with the same brush as the irresponsible ones... and even when we plead our case about our well trained dogs, picking up poo, making sure our dogs don't approach strangers etc... we then get beat over the head with "well, dogs are bad for the planet" bollocks.
It is ridiculous.

Agree! I work with animals and much prefer it to humans. It’s really odd people are blaming the over population of dogs on the environment.. surely the same could be said for people who have multiple children? Where do we draw the line?

if I see a dog walker/person not picking up poo, I track them down and offer a poo bag! I don’t mind dogs at all anywhere but I do think common sense should prevail. If your dog is going to wee on something perhaps keep him outside of shops. It’s bad owners here not bad dogs.

Sounds like a rough area. Nothing like that here.

Nor here. All dogs in my small town are owned, on leads in the streets and most people pick up the poo.

Nor here either. I honestly see more bird shit on the ground than dog shit. I live in a fairly central suburb of a small city.

I’m betting that most of the dogs in the pub are not the small, fluffy, yappy types, and that the owners don’t refer to them as “fur babies”? Completely different type of owner / dog.

Some of the people who do this in my area drive in from other parts of town. It’s a town with plenty of parkland, gardens, but they seem to have deemed our area the dog-walking recreational park.

They park their cars in the lay-by in front of my terraced block of three or in the car park of the near-by Co-op.

So yes…I imagine they’re keeping their own area ‘nice’.

No, they come in from outside because there is grass here, I see them in the morning when I'm walking to school. They're on their way back when I come home.

angela1952 · 01/07/2024 14:21

The management are planning to install locked gates to keep them out. There are no rights of way through here so it should improve. Or we may find our own nice old ladies with dogs are just as bad!

What a nasty thread

…it would be a much nicer more balanced thread if dog owners took more responsibility for their animals and cleaned up after them, then folk would have very little to complain about on a thread like this. Sadly lots of irresponsible dog owners- Not all of course but enough to make it obvious that there is a problem.

TheWernethWife · 01/07/2024 16:09

I've not read all the posts. We are cat owners and not dog haters as most on here are.
If your child was missing you'd want a tracker dog to help find them or if you were in an earthquake a dog could help to find you in the rubble.

The issue in Turkey is incredibly worrying. I set off shortly to vaccinate, neuter and move some of these stray dogs to safety, initially thought we had until September but it looks like the new bill will be passed this week, am doing this for a charity as a donation.

i always find dog threads interesting because it so divisive. I wish people would focus their energy on more positive things in the world. Splitting opinions /dividing people causes wars..
I have said it before and I will say it again - dogs are not the problems. Humans are. Eg the original poster of this thread. How many dogs being walked at lunch time in a public place isn’t against the law nor any of her business. She should probably just stay indoors and educate herself!

Hopefully they can all be rounded up & euthanised before you set off, freeing you to do something more useful with your time & energy.
