The dogs pissing and shitting round my way tend not to be feral - they all have owners who care enough to take their dogs away from their home to do the needful, but don't care enough to keep them off the gardens and driveways close to the kids' football park.
An additional problem is that many of the owners let the dogs off the lead as soon as they get to the footpath that leads to the park. No fatalities yet, but there have been a few near misses.
I had one lovely gentleman swearing at me because I had to brake for his dog. I was edging out of my driveway at a snail's pace. The dog wasn't on a lead and was way ahead of him on the pavement in front of my house. (I always take my time driving out, lest their be humans or any other animals on the pavement.)
In return, I pointed out the error of his ways. His dog now has one of these expandable leads. The problem is that he expands it while his dog is on the pavement - it's still way ahead of him. An accident waiting to happen.
This chap has form. Any time I'm in my garden working while he passes, nothing happens; if I'm walking from the local shop and he's way ahead, inevitably I find that he's left a little present on the driveway for me. He does exactly the same to a pal (another widow) who lives a bit further down the street. Charming fellow.
Then there's the chap with the 4 dogs who never has them on a lead. They're beautiful animals and one day he's going to get them killed. I think I've already told part of this story upthread...
Last week, I was picking up my order from the local Chinese takeaway. The mini-market is next door. He'd left all 4 dogs outside, with a "Sit!" command. Two did as they were told; two didn't. A passerby stopped them from running into the road.
When I came out of the takeaway, she asked if they were mine. The owner finally exited the shop and looked none too pleased. The dogs are lovely, but I then had to hold my take-away out of their reach. One of them still succeeded in touching it, but only the exterior bag.
This is what happens when you live near an area where owners like to walk their dogs.
I have no doubt that when a dog is injured, the owner will take no blame for it.
