Unfortunately I can't link to her clip, but she's a star and a hero. She pinned him down and cut through the "twaddle". I am a swing voter and would have been proud of a mntter holding any mp to account on an important issue like Jane did. Jane is/was even trending on twitter.

As I said, having a mastectomy or taking testosterone is not equivalent to jumping off a high bridge or taking an overdose.

I'm sure you realise there are degrees of harm. It isn't "ends in death=bad, everything else fine", is it?

I'm sure many people do things that could potentially be more harmful than a mastectomy or testosterone without the benefits. I'm sure that you make some choices that may reduce your healthy lifespan but it is your choice to make.

JaneVapeman · 29/06/2024 20:47

@JanefromLondon1

Unfortunately, many people don't get what the issues are.

I was one of them until fairly recently. We all have busy lives and here and there some news items appear eg the post office people waving banners outside a court but it didn't mean much to me.
Now I've watched the drama about it, I'm horrified.

Re jk Rowling I heard that the sweet child actors from Harry Potter had turned against her. And my first thought was, poor people trapped inside the wrong body, live and let live! What's she playing at!!

One day I decided to read one of the jk Rowling threads and my mind was blown. Simultaneously my dd was newly at secondary school in year 7 and all her pals were calling themselves boys names. I thought it was a phase and it didn't worry me too much. I thought the other mums were needlessly worrying and a bit uptight..
And then I started to understand, research and so on and it hit me like a ton of bricks.

I'm forever greatful to jk Rowling and all the amazing mumsnetter who have raised this issue.

It's critical and vital to keep this alive especially with the onslaught that will be coming our way. My older dd is now through school I had to move her and she's OK, but the younger one is just starting secondary.
We've literally just got to a point where more people have understood the issue and pushed back. We've made progress and I fear it will all be thrown into the wind and we will massively regress. So much so we won't even be able to speak about it and the stonewall party doners will ride rough shod over us all.

Sorry but you have done this twice now - it's CAMHS not CAHMS

And Keir not Kier

ActivePeony do you feel better now that's out there Smile I can't guarantee it won't happen again though Shock

Is 51% of the uk population female?
What % of the uk voting public is trans?

According to Stonewall, quite a high percentage, under its “trans umbrella”. But they appear to have now removed cross dressers, any woman who likes to wear jeans and a T shirt is probably no longer trans, hence not as high as it used to be.

JaneVapeman · 29/06/2024 20:49

@JanefromLondon1 you didn't sound angry to me not that you shouldn't!. You sounded frustrated and firm.

Yes, exactly what many of us fear. If anyone thinks it can't happen, I suggest they look at Spain, Germany, Canada, or Australia.

Thinkbiglittleone · 29/06/2024 20:53

Fuck me I sighed and interrupted a man and I'm rude!!!

If it had been a woman the same would be being said, everytime he got near saying anything of interest you cut him off, yes he waffled a bit before as they do, but then wait for it.......no, you interrupted.

surely you can see it's not about the fact you interrupted a man, I mean talk about mis understanding posts. You had a lucky opportunity that many would have liked to hold him to account, and you didn't.

Starmer has had multiple opportunities to clarify his position now and has failed in every single one of them. None of that is Jane's fault

She did hold him to account she denied him to opportunity to deceive the voting public about his intentions wrt single sex spaces. She asked a pretty straight forward question, his response didn't require preamble.

He's a public servant, not the pope, if he insists on treating women with contempt then he shouldn't be surprised he doesn't receive respect in return.

It's not what you said Jane, it's the way that you said it. FFS

He wasn't answering my question. It was why they asked me to go on, to ask my question.

Of course I interrupted him. I wanted an answer 🙄. I wasn't going to sit on my hands, lips pursed not letting out that sigh whilst he just waffled on.

Every time he spoke he tried to not answer my question which is why I tried to bring him back to doing so.

Thinkbiglittleone · 29/06/2024 21:00

It would be nice if KS could acknowledge women deserve dignity and respect but he never seems to place any emphasis on that

He will, he will show every person in this country with dignity and respect.

Sparticusoctopus · 29/06/2024 21:00

I think she didn’t allow a proper conversation and just talked over him. She was rude and actually didn’t do the argument for biological women any favours. I’m really disappointed to be honest. This needs a proper adult conversation and debate not this angry tirade with no listening.

Not the "no debate" of the TRAs then?

He's failed to show any to Rosie Duffield and I'm much less important so I won't hold my breath.

But I now don’t know what he actually thinks and what he actually plans to do because you didn’t let him speak. I get that this topic invokes anger but there is a way of channelling that usefully and just yelling and talking over someone isn’t helpful. I appreciate you trying but I’m disappointed that this was a missed opportunity to actually clarify anything - but I suspect you don’t actually want to know. I think you may be want to stay angry.

ResisterOfTwaddleRex · 29/06/2024 21:04

Being "disappointed" does seem to be a recurring line being spun from somewhere.

I'm only too happy to "disappoint" MRAs and AGPs, to be quite honest.

Starmer's had ample opportunities to clarify that women's rights apply to women and not 'women with penises' and every single time has ducked the question, waffled about trans rights, or his time as a prosecutor, or how nasty the debate is.

He needed someone to point out that his obfuscation and whataboutery wasn't fooling anyone, and Jane did that very effectively.

He doesn't actually have an answer, going by all the other times he's been asked similar questions and fluffed it.

We do know what he thinks - he doesn't give a fuck. And what he plans to do is make it far easier to get a GRC - one doctor can sign it off instead of a panel.

A £5 lady ticket. That's it. Plus if you change your mind afterwards, there's a 'cooling off' period of two years.

There wasn’t time for a “conversation”. It was a radio show with limited time.

She asked a question, he did his best not to answer it. She held him to account.

Politicians get away with not giving proper answers because they’re trained to obfuscate, and few interviewers really press them. Jane did a superb job. And over four fifths of readers of this thread agree.

He does give a fuck. That’s not true. I wanted to hear what he said and Jane has prevented that. That’s not helpful.

Did she also hold the Tory to account for their policies, which unlike Labour's stance on transgender issues, are actually shortening the lives of literally millions of women?

On a call with Starmer? Ummmm, nope!

Missed opportunity?

How many opportunities does the man need? He's been asked repeatedly since he became leader. If it takes him 4 years to formulate an answer to a simple question then the whole country will be completely fucked when he becomes PM.
