Unfortunately I can't link to her clip, but she's a star and a hero. She pinned him down and cut through the "twaddle". I am a swing voter and would have been proud of a mntter holding any mp to account on an important issue like Jane did. Jane is/was even trending on twitter.

This issue is only going to grow. Starmer will get away with this fudge/lie before a likely landslide election but I don’t think he will get away with it in power or at the next election.

Jane was articulate and persistent, she had him on the ropes.

I don't care what you've done in the past I want to know what you're going to do!

100% pure🔥

VictorianBigot · 29/06/2024 10:56

When he brought up Brianna’s mum yet again I lost all of what little faith in him I had. I’d decided I was (reluctantly) going to vote Labour but I’m now back to leaning towards spoiling my ballot. The vitriol and abuse aimed at women with concerns about this is, frankly, terrifying.

Clabony · 29/06/2024 10:56

Jane, you can tell how well you have done by the content of the scolds.
You've upset a couple of Labour supporters who say they are women.

Apparently, you were a bit rude and didn't speak for them. Do make a note and be a love.

Meanwhile.... women all over the world are telling each other what a damn good job you did putting Keir Starmer QC on the spot.

And shutting down his attempt to use a child's murder for political points. I don't see any condemnation of that from the moaners. That speaks volumes to all of us.

Naunet · 29/06/2024 10:57

Ereshkigalangcleg · 29/06/2024 10:52

I agree. I don't like Starmer, but he isn't a stupid man.

He is a bit stupid, he thought men could grow a cervix.

borntobequiet · 29/06/2024 10:57

Churchview · 29/06/2024 10:40

He doesn’t think women are entitled to have concerns. So he shuts them down.

That is what this thread did to me.

This is Mumsnet AIBU, where people often disagree, not the higher echelons of the Labour Party dismissing the reasonable concerns of its own women members. There’s no comparison. No one has “shut you down”.

EasternStandard · 29/06/2024 10:58

TheKeatingFive · 29/06/2024 10:51

Of course he gets it. He's a smart man with a great legal brain.

He is deliberately creating a fudge because he's screwing these women over. He knows it, but he wants to fool people into thinking he isn't.

I don’t think he does get it

His brain goes to two different places and he cannot combine the two

Someone please ask him where men with a GRC have access

Ask him about spaces for women, ask him about men with GRC access and then say you are saying two things that are incompatible

I think he’d freeze. Jane did an amazing job now journalists pick up the pitch and ask the direct question

I think they pick up things from mn, come on journalists

Ereshkigalangcleg · 29/06/2024 10:58

He is a bit stupid, he thought men could grow a cervix.

Wasn't that Lammy?

No-one has said you’re not entitled to your own view. But you made claims about the interview that were point blank incorrect - Jane never claimed to speak for all women - that’s when you were countered.

To be fair, he may have, but KS said it wasn’t right to say only women have a cervix, so I’m not sure where he thought men were getting them from!

Chersfrozenface · 29/06/2024 11:01

Naunet · 29/06/2024 10:57

He is a bit stupid, he thought men could grow a cervix.

That was David Lammy.

A member of the Shadow Cabinet and quite possibly a government minister after the election

Still, his ignorance of biology and female anatomy hardly matters. I mean, what person in government needs to know or care anything about women, eh?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 29/06/2024 11:01

Someone please ask him where men with a GRC have access

He almost got there, then he testily started referencing the "law for 20 years" (GRA). Which as pp said, means he thinks that gives holders the same status as "biological women". And he's happy to make the certificates easier to get.

EasternStandard · 29/06/2024 11:01

Naunet · 29/06/2024 10:57

He is a bit stupid, he thought men could grow a cervix.

I think he has that dangerous kind of man privilege where he is utterly reinforced at every turn because he uses the right tone and looks as you’d expect

His stupidity comes from not hearing women but also his other policies are frighteningly under-scrutinised and incredibly low possibility of working

That clenched fist was telling.

TheKeatingFive · 29/06/2024 11:02

He's a lawyer. His brain is all over stuff like this. It is a deliberate attempt to fudge. He knows exactly what he's doing.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 29/06/2024 11:04

I agree, I think he has a clever legal mind, but he's not an impressive PM candidate at all and I don't think he's a strong leader. Labour aren't winning the election, the Tories are losing it.

I get the lawyerly bullshit part and completely concur

I still think he freezes like a rabbit and would love to see this question

TheKeatingFive · 29/06/2024 11:04

Note the recent Labour line of talking a lot about women's 'safe spaces' rather than women's 'single sex spaces'. Using reassuring words to gloss over what they are not protecting.

Yep he's incredibly weak as a leader

But he looks / sounds plausible and isn't a Tory and that is enough.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 29/06/2024 11:07

Exactly.

MrsSkylerWhite · 29/06/2024 11:08

You don’t think it’s possible that some women just hold different opinions to you?

He meant that transmen (aka women) have a cervix.

Absolutely agree. This isn’t about the better party to represent the country, it’s about who’s ’not the Tories’. Depressing all round and we will all lose because of it (not just on women’s rights).

Once in power Starmer needs to be held personally to account for every sexual harassment/assault in these so-called “safe spaces”.

Someone should set up a “Safe spaces?” website like “everyday sexism” where women can detail all their experiences.

I don't get the dignity/privacy thing if we are divorcing that from violence. How is it undignified? Any more so than undressing in front of another 'biological woman'

My sons are 22 and 15. I love the bones of them. We are quite physically affectionate as a family. It’s honestly not that weird that when we go swimming (which we do - ds1 is an excellent swimmer and is trying to help me improve my stroke so we do go together probably 3 times a month and ds2 is trying to be buff so comes too) that we don’t get naked together. My dds are 19 and 14. I don’t know any 19 and 14yo girls who happily strip for swimming in front of their 15 and 22 yo brothers or their dads, at the local leisure centre where boys they have known since nursery and the bloke next door are also present. Most women don’t want to change in front of male strangers, but male relatives, colleagues, school friends, neighbours, customers from work, friends, friends boyfriends and husbands etc who they may not fear violence from, are not much better. I don’t gaf is “Europeans” or “Scandinavians” or “Germans” or any other fucker “doesn’t give it a second thought”. KS is likely to be the prime minister of the UK - a country where the established social norms are single sex changing areas. We have single sex changing rooms. Why is this bloke so determined to use the female ones as dignity booths for men?

I would also add. I very much think that a majority of men would not want to change in front of women either. Sure you will get some tosspots, but realistically I think most men would say no.

This is the confusing thing with the boxing. I don’t think a man wants to box a trans-man. They would kill them fairly quickly.

I don’t understand why it can’t be measured. It would be so easy to do. You could do V02 max, grip strength and distance is a tennis ball throw for every trans-person and compare pre-transition to 1,2,5 and 10 on meds.

Sure there would be some faking for the more problematic people at least it’s a start.

eacapade1982 · 29/06/2024 11:13

Jane kept interrupting and did not let KS actually answer the question. If she had let him answer maybe we would have had a better idea whether his position is evolving or not.
