Biden Trump debate- they must get rid of Biden now?

molotovcupcakes · 28/06/2024 07:10

Biden looked so frail and incoherant at times that this must be the end of his Presidency very soon.
How have the Democrats not faced this sooner and selected someone else, I don't understand why they have let this go on for so long.
He had to be helped off the stage by his wife and it seems like elder abuse.

The fail has some doctors saying they suspect he has Parkinson’s. Which explains why he dips in and out, his face has a mask like quality and he’s suffering falls. None diagnosing but all saying that’s what he’s displaying symptoms of.

sometjing is wrong and it clearly isn’t dementia. I know a few people in their 80s, and they present like trump (minus the arsehole behaviour) not like Biden, who is not displaying like a healthy 80 year old. It is very clear he has some form of medical condition that is causing him impairment and it is progressing.

are they hiding a medical diagnosis. If so I think that is wrong.

Janehasamane · 28/06/2024 14:22

Also to add on the Parkinson’s theory, one puts it very well, he says with dementia when the lights go out, they stay out, but with Parkinson’s they dim and then brighten. Which does appear to be what’s happening with Biden.

nauticant · 28/06/2024 14:23

There's another factor to consider. Biden didn't have a conventional campaign last time round:

In 2020, Biden kept a low profile as the spread of COVID-19 caused havoc to most aspects of American life, including the election campaign that pitted him against then-President Donald Trump, a Republican.

Trump still spoke at big rallies, but Biden did much of his campaigning virtually from the basement of his home in Wilmington, Delaware, largely avoiding crowds to prevent the spread of disease and reduce his own risk of catching the virus.

AInightingale · 28/06/2024 14:24

He may have had a slight stroke or TIA in recent times I suppose, causing cognitive and motor impairment. Think it's called multi-infarct dementia.

Exactlab · 28/06/2024 14:24

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 28/06/2024 13:45

Indeed, and here it’s not about his condition in November 2024, it’s how he is in November 2028 - he’s “finger on the button” until then.

I feel like we’re doomed to terrible candidates in the UK and US because you’d need to be quite mad to want to do that these days.

What are you talking about?

That's pure speculation though isn't it? His presentation could well be due to old age. Being in that job, at that age, is crazy really.

TheKeatingFive · 28/06/2024 14:29

I don't think it matters what the diagnosis is, the performances we've seen lately have made it clear he isn't fit to lead. It's not fair to anyone for him to continue

CormorantStrikesBack · 28/06/2024 14:29

I honestly think he’ll be dead by the election if he doesn’t stand aside. The stress and workload can’t be good for him.

Huh? Of course it’s pure speculation, no one has access to his medical records. What an odd question to ask.

and no that’s not how you present due to old age. Do you not know anyone his age.?

My granny is is mid 90s. And it wasn't an odd question to ask

I can see what you mean. JB clearly isn't able to run the US, so who is?
That would concern me if I were an American. Of course it plays straight into Trumps conspiracy loving supporters who love to wax lyrical about the US being run by a shadowy cabal as well.

I don't think it's just Americans that should be concerned
😱😱😱

Appleandoranges · 28/06/2024 14:32

I must be the only one but I don't think it's that big a deal that he seems a bit doddery and stumbling in the speech. The beginning was painful but large segments of the debate, which I watched, he was absolutely fine. He's been the president for the last 4 years and things have been good in US. Economy booming. Foreign policy decisions you can argue about, but they are definitely in the parameters of normal, unlike Trump. We don't have to compare their performance in debates. We can simply compare their performance as presidents. Of course Trump seems a better speaker but he just speaks in short slogans. Whereas Biden is trying to articulate more complex stuff.

Sparticusoctopus · 28/06/2024 14:47

maudelovesharold · 28/06/2024 13:27

Upside to that would be, Obama will only be 66 in 4 years time, if he wanted to run again!

Ooo. Would do love Obama back. But chances are Trump would change things to ensure he gets in just like Putin has.

redexrt123 · 28/06/2024 14:54

If Biden can hang in there until the 4th July, Rishi should then be free. Hs mandatory national service and Rwanda policies are sure to win over some Republicans to the Democrat side.

Don't you have to be born in the USA to be president? He would probably have the money though.

I'd call it a fact based conjecture, rather than a pure speculation. He does look like textbook parkinsonism patient.

I don't have the relevant expertise in that area tbh. But conjecture is still conjecture rather than fact. Either way, based on the debate, he's not up for another four years. Personally, I think the physical and mental demands of the job require someone younger. Assuming they have the relevant expertise.

It's the bits where he's not fine though - that's the problem

But why on earth did they not have someone lined up? That's what I find really strange. They've had time.

But it’s not the Democratic Party who chooses the nominee, or in the case you’re suggesting, a backup. The electorate chooses the nominee at the ballot box. They did this in March 2024–Biden won. There is no 2nd place winner waiting in the wings. It’s First Past the Post.

I'm not going to start armchair diagnosing, but that would certainly explain his relative coherence at the State of the Union speech compared to last night

It's not just about one-off appearances though; somhow he's got to get through 4+ months of gruelling campaigning and I just can't see how he can manage it

Agree, and to be potus he needs to be in full charge of his faculties at all times. Often they need to make major decisions, If he is ill and I am convinced he is, he is not presenting like your average healthy 80 year old (trump is 4 years younger and was a world apart health wise) then he needs to stand down. It would be very wrong for him to try to stand again.

hastalav · 28/06/2024 15:35

Maybe he has a one off UTI. He stumbles a bit now and then alright, but is usually reasonably coherent. I think.

Aren't the docs usually all over them though?

You would think so, but I wonder if they just do a yearly physical, and the rest is voluntary and situational.

I read somewhere that UTIs can present with symptoms of disorientation and confusion much like Biden presented last night. Maybe his doctors noticed and maybe he shrugged them off and hasn't given a urine sample or refused a blood test. Who knows? Can he be forced to have medical treatment?

Like others I am just surmising. And what do I know anyway!
