Biden Trump debate- they must get rid of Biden now?

molotovcupcakes · 28/06/2024 07:10

Biden looked so frail and incoherant at times that this must be the end of his Presidency very soon.
How have the Democrats not faced this sooner and selected someone else, I don't understand why they have let this go on for so long.
He had to be helped off the stage by his wife and it seems like elder abuse.

I don't think age is the issue. I do know a couple of 80 year olds who are sharp as a tack and would be able to do the job of president, yes it gets less likely that you're in good health as people age, but if people are in good health they shouldn't be banned.

Trump's a narcissist and an idiot but he was forceful and as coherent as he's ever been in his speech during the debate.

It's not about age it's about fitness, and Biden is clearly not fit to be President any more.

I'm expecting him to die of "natural causes" in the next few months.

Hmmmm....🤔

Karmela needs to take over. Hes gifting this to Trump

That would simply be a different way of gifting it to Trump

Well, it's a big head start on a man who is not morally up to the job, and who suggested injecting disinfectant might be a good solution for covid.

Obviously.
I'm not a Trump supporter FGS, I'm just stating the obvious. Joe Biden should have stood down at the start of the campaign so the Democrats could get a more credible candidate to up against Trump (who imo isn't looking particularly chipper either).

Exactlab · 28/06/2024 12:49

I agree. But I also don’t think Trump is fit for office either. I’m not even touching on his mental competency but he has faecal incontinence. Something which has been spoken about over the years but became well known during his recent trial.

I think the US is broken. I’ve no idea who is running the country as Biden can’t hide his dementia any more. It’s like Weekend at Bernie’s.

I wonder how different the US would be if Al Gore became President all those years ago. Or if instead of Trump and Clinton vying for the Presidency - it was Cruz and Sanders.

So many Democrats and republicans need to be in retirement homes. They aren’t physically, mentally or morally competent to lead.

Mitch McConnell, par example?

TheABC · 28/06/2024 12:56

Who would take over if either candidate is declared medically unfit? At 78 and 81 out on the campaign trail, they've got a higher-than-average chance of a stroke, heart attack or other serious problems.

I'm frankly amazed at Trump's resilience, given the legal and financial stress he is under. Perhaps a lifetime of being an odious narcissist helps..

I wish they could have Obama back…

I wonder if Obama would've got back in if he'd been allowed to run. Why do they have the two term rule? Although I guess it will be a blessing if/when Trump gets back in.

Wideskye · 28/06/2024 13:02

It is very sad.
Personally, I think there should be an age limit in all countries for Presidents and Prime Ministers.

Trump’s already told us that he wants to change the constitution to eliminate the two term limit. Now remind me…who was it that changed their country’s constitution to do the same? Ah yes, it was Putin.

Lincoln (and slave owning racist tyrants like jefferson, washington and co.) would be spinning in their grave at the thought of a black woman holding a position they did.

Quoting Lincoln, 1858 speech during the Lincoln and Douglas debates:

"I am not, nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people. I as much as any man am in favor of the superior position assigned to the white race."

How is a 166 year old opinion relevant to the here and now?

Ilikeadrink14 · 28/06/2024 13:07

Dearg · 28/06/2024 07:15

I do agree. It’s actually very sad to see. I have no idea how they go about replacing their candidate at this stage , but sadly, Biden will just hand this to Trump.

Sorry but if Biden were to die now, they’d HAVE to find someone. So what’s the problem with replacing a poor old chap who is clearly out of his depth? Seems so cruel to let him carry on like this.

Should be, I agree. Let's start with the King and Queen and successors maybe also? They are heads of State too.

Here you go, @dollybird ... the two term thing:

It's heartbreaking. The Republicans are likely to win as a default.

I'm so sorry for America (especially as Trump is being influenced by the obnoxious Farage and all that he stands for).

Sorry for the US?

I'm sorry for us

I'm terrified of Trump getting in

A population of 341,963,408 adults and these are the choices?

I don't understand why Kamala Harris couldn't run. Why are these dreadful old gimmers in line to run the most powerful country on earth? Trump is also too old and a convicted felon. It's all so fucked up.

Because they all think she's useless

PifandHercule · 28/06/2024 13:12

Kamala seems like the most logical candidate but the problem is that America is simply not ready for a female president, especially a woman of colour. She polls very low and Democrats know that she won’t stand a chance.
Besides, she may not even want to put herself and her family through the hell of running anyway.

They won’t elect a woman. The Dems wouldn’t choose HRC and the GOP wouldn’t choose Harris.
I don’t agree this is elder abuse. Nobody is abusing him. He has a job and he’s doing it, and has chosen not to step down. But he’s a disaster now. Trump is just as impaired as he is but in a different way, so he appears stronger. Trump is very likely to win and the consequences worldwide will be dreadful.

There'll be a mechanism but first things first they have to face the reality it needs to happen. They seem to be in denial at the moment and wasting precious time. I'd have thought Kamala Harris is the only option at this stage. She needs to start getting out there.

Her ratings are a horror show, she has no chance of being elected

Just reminds me of my late father in his last couple of years, after he had suffered a series of small strokes - jumbled words, losing the thread of his sentences.

It's absolutely appalling and so much worse in an era of mass media, I believe that Ramsay MacDonald was quietly replaced by Baldwin in the 1930s because his speeches became increasingly rambling and it was obvious that he had dementia, but politicians did not have the scrutiny that they do now.

Reminds me of me in my peri brain fog phases. I just know my limits and would step down rather than keep going.

fliptopbin · 28/06/2024 13:14

From what I gather, Kamala is in a no win situation, because she was put in charge of illegal immigration, and some other briefs that are impossible to fix. So obviously she didn't deliver, and now she is very unpopular.

Is he being pushed into it or does his ego get in the way?

I'd say pushed, I'm not 100% he's compos mentis.
