Biden Trump debate- they must get rid of Biden now?

molotovcupcakes · 28/06/2024 07:10

Biden looked so frail and incoherant at times that this must be the end of his Presidency very soon.
How have the Democrats not faced this sooner and selected someone else, I don't understand why they have let this go on for so long.
He had to be helped off the stage by his wife and it seems like elder abuse.

Urgh so a man was slightly confused but still more articulate that his counterpart. But we need to vote for the lying misogynist criminal apparently. Bring on the Handmaids tale ladies, praise be America that’s what your in for. Can’t wait 🙄 Interested to ask trump how you can abort a baby after third term birth 🤣🤣

Tracker1234 · 28/06/2024 10:58

Slightly confused!! He was more than that. He can barely walk and needs helping down TWO steps by his wife!!

He needs to go - maybe not to a care home but to a place where he can relax and take his foot off the accelerator.

There is something in between a care home and being President of the United States!!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 28/06/2024 10:58

It is very hard to climb the greasy pile of politics without dirty tricks and deals

Indeed, and that's one more reason people with real integrity will go nowhere near it, leaving Americans with the appalling choice they've got

And we thought the choice was bad in the UK Hmm

It is sad. I feel sorry for him.
Trump seems young next to him.

Um? Have you seen the fact check on Trumps speech? Just because someone speaks louder than someone else and shouts doesn’t mean he is speaking truth. I encourage you to Google fact check on trumps and Bidens speech. Everything trump says is a lie and your country will apparently elect him 🤣

That isn't what I was saying. I commented in response to a PP who said that Kamala could never get in as 'America wasn't ready for a black female leader'.

My point was that America might be ready for a 'black female leader' if she was the right, experienced leader. I don't think Kamala is that person.

I wasn't saying that Michelle Obama was the only credible alternative to Biden. The context of my post says that.

Lincoln (and slave owning racist tyrants like jefferson, washington and co.) would be spinning in their grave at the thought of a black woman holding a position they did.

Quoting Lincoln, 1858 speech during the Lincoln and Douglas debates:

"I am not, nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people. I as much as any man am in favor of the superior position assigned to the white race."

Oh come on! This is the Democratic Party. One of the few things you can rely on in politics is that if there's a serious political decision to be made, the Democrats will call it wrong.

As comedian Michelle Wolf said about the Democratic Party, “you guys always find a way to mess it up. You're somehow gonna lose by 12 points to a guy named Jeff Paedophile Nazi-Doctor.”

Tracker1234 · 28/06/2024 11:00

The Democrats have brought this all on themselves.. shame on them. Trump will win after that debate. I know there is another one nearer Nov but does anyone think its going to be any better? No notes, no teleprompter for either of them and Bieden was a sad pitful figure.

Which is why it is so bad he was up against Biden. You have to be pretty terrible if you come out of a debate making Trump look good.

maudelovesharold · 28/06/2024 11:05

I wish they could have Obama back…

TokyoSushi · 28/06/2024 11:08

Not rtft but Biden seems to have got significantly worse over the last few months, his health has obviously taken a downhill turn, but he's 81, there's no way he can still be doing one of this most difficult jobs in the world at 85.

Will the Democrats have the guts/ability to stand him down? At the moment we seek nailed on to have 4 more years of Don...

Trump is liar but unfortunately people voting for him don’t fact check

Are you serious, you genuinely think a deeply racist, misogynistic fascist convicted felon who lies constantly and says he wants to be a dictator (& fuelled the insurrection of 6 Jan when someone put up a noose to hang Mike Pence) is the better option? What would've happened to Nancy Pelosi if someone had tracked her down that day?

Of course Biden is the better option, regardless of whatever faults he has.

No I personally would not vote for Trump. However for many in the US as in the UK blue collar workers feel ignored and that they are getting increasingly poorer as time goes on. If the Democrats loose this election against a convicted misogynist criminal it will be because they were not able to articulate why voting for Biden would deliver better outcomes for them. Amongst America's black community support for Biden has declined and declined quite sharply. The population as a whole remains unconvinced.

Biden isn't just old. He's deteriorating very quickly. They should have sorted this out last summer when it was clear he was going downhill.
What a bloody mess.

SmileyHappyPeopleInTheSun · 28/06/2024 11:16

I was on a thread like this few months ago - it's just popped up on threads you are on.

Entire thread i t was mostly Trump is a loon who shouldn't be in this race - that was before his recent conviction - and Biden is frail and old and looks ill and while better shouldn't be there either.

There were some very prolific and persistent posters insisting Europe and UK had all all fallen for right wing propaganda - we were all being fooled.

Left me with the impression their operatives on both side think their USA voters are thick and if they lie louder and more persistently they'll be believed. While I don't think we are in a great place politically in UK - don't think our media is as bad for allowing this not since Brexit anyway.

I think most of the Democrats political machine woken up too late to fact Biden looks frail and too old - and they lack balls for the fight - for want of better term - to take him down in any of the very few chances to get rid.

AthenaBasil · 28/06/2024 11:18

The Democrats are a disgrace for not having an adequate opposition. They brought this on themselves. This isn’t a surprise. I’ve been trying to avoid US politics but even I could see this as a major issue. Look at Biden debate and speak 10 years ago. He’s so different.

And sure you can bring up Trump lying etc but although it might seem superficial it image and how you carry yourself and how you sound when speaking matters.

Yes, it’s interesting as my Dad is 78 and very articulate but he does fall to sleep quite a bit sitting reading. My husband has an uncle who is 75 and he is renovating his second home in France! He is physically and mentally fit. Then again 75 isn’t 81!

I know I have already mentioned this but you watch them in contrast to Trudeau who is 51, whether you agree with Trudeau or not the delivery of his points is passionate and energised, is this age I don’t know.

FOJN · 28/06/2024 11:20

Bidens cognitive decline was evident before the last election. Every time I saw it mentioned on threads here there were a whole host of posters who would jump in to claim that his incoherence was because of a stutter he'd had since childhood despite the fact you can go to YouTube and see him making fiery, coherent speeches just ten years ago. My best guess is that he has Parkinson's disease.

He would not have won the last election at all if the people from intelligence agencies hadn't been embedded in social media companies and managed to successfully suppress the Hunter Biden laptop story. Something which posters here claimed was Russian disinformation.
Elon Musk gave journalists free access to what have become known as the Twitter files so the evidence of intelligence service interference in the last election is readily available. Search for articles and interviews by Michael Shellenberger or Matt Tiabbi for anyone interested.

Gavin Newsom is being floated as a possible replacement if Biden can be persuaded to stand down but he is not without controversy. There is a history of at least one extra marital affair, he had his own partygate moment during covid when California had implemented some of the harshest lock down measures. More recently he implemented a $20 an hour minimum wage for employees in the fast food industry which sounds great but approx 10000 jobs have been lost in the industry in California since its introduction last autumn. His record on education, wild fire prevention (I believe he was caught telling porkies about his interventions on this issue), drought prevention and homelessness isn't great. His chances will depend on how much interest the US public take in the political affairs of other states.

LemonSoup · 28/06/2024 11:20

It wouldn't surprise me if he went to sleep one night and didn't wake up...problem solved for the Democrats!
I'd be locking my bedroom door if I was him!

Stowickthevast · 28/06/2024 11:26

@FOJN true about Gavin Newsome, but at least he would be able to be articulate against Trump. One of the issues last night is that Biden was saying that Trump was lying, but then not following up with specific examples of what the truth was.

There are worrying signs that China is training its forces to be able to conduct a law enforcement–led “quarantine” of Taiwan. This report lays out China’s potential motivations for a quarantine and maps out two plausible scenarios of how it could cond...

My friend's dad is 84...just become president of his local Rotary, plays golf-and wins-3 times a week-is a parish councillor, plays in a string quartet (amateur), reads widely and a lot and makes the best ice cream ever.
Ok. I know that's nothing like the most powerful job in the world but it's worth remembering that not all old people need to be in a home. I suppose it's just the luck of the genetic draw..

SmileyHappyPeopleInTheSun · 28/06/2024 11:30

@LemonSoup I agree I've known people articulate and with it well into their 90s - I image there some older I've just not met them.

However that's clearly not Biden - he looks frail and been caught more than once looking confused. I can't see him being woken up in middle of night and being ready to deal with world changing events. He has the better team round him - but they are not the ones standing for office.
