All men’s do.

Suffering from hay fever and gone out for the night. Realised that after blowing my nose that my trousers don’t have a pocket to put hankie in.

They dont

OrwellianTimes · 27/06/2024 23:15

I don’t get your AIBU, but no - not all trousers should have pockets, some like the seamless look. But more should have pockets.

MigGirl · 27/06/2024 23:23

They don't all have pockets, but they all should. I need them to have pockets for work but they also need to be smart trousers to and sometimes find it hard to find trousers with pockets 😒. All mens trousers have pockets though, this I find rather sexits.

I googled it once, it used to be that women always had bigger pockets then men, until the invention of the handbag. The some design decided that a stream line look was better on ladies clothing, this was fairly recent 😳. Not practical at all.

nocoolnamesleft · 27/06/2024 23:25

And those that have pockets should have bigger better pockets.

Leeds2 · 27/06/2024 23:27

I know that my adult daughter gets terribly excited when she finds gym wear which actually has pockets! She goes back to the same couple of places every time purely based on this.

Tagyoureit · 27/06/2024 23:27

It's so you can be sold a handbag

VoteLabour · 27/06/2024 23:28

YABU

SweetFemaleAttitude · 27/06/2024 23:28

Yes we all know. It's a feminist issue 😁.

This.
More with proper (deeper) pockets.
Some will still want a streamlined pocket free look.

SweetFemaleAttitude · 27/06/2024 23:30

My comment was light-hearted, but also not.

True. Was complaining I had nowhere to put phone - DH couldn't understand why I didn't put it in my pocket until I showed him pocket was about 2 inches deep.

Pockets (or lack thereof) are a feminist issue Grin

Hmmmm2018 · 27/06/2024 23:35

We had this discussion recently, why do skirts etc not have nice roomy pockets, I have one dress that I love that randomly has big lovely pockets, it is flipping Fantasic

Pickledprawn · 27/06/2024 23:35

It's so annoying. I've started wearing a cross body bumbag type thing I hate carrying bags and then I end up losing my keys and phone all the time.

Branster · 27/06/2024 23:49

There should be large enough pockets everywhere! There should be a way to add and change pockets after sale.
Women's trousers should always have 2 versions: with and without pockets.
And can they stop making phones bigger and bigger? Years ago I had a thin small slimline Samsung (before Apple phones were around). It would fit in my back jeans pockets, I kept re-buying for this reason alone.
I add my own pockets to skirts and dresses of a looser fit from waist down. It's not easiest thing to do but I am determined on this. I found the right size pockets on one of my dresses and made a template.
Hollister now advertise their dresses 'with pockets'. Not a shop I'd buy my own dresses from, but it's clearly a usp.
I was in Monsoon a couple of days ago and saw 2 dresses I really liked, in the sale, perfect fit and beautiful. In the end I didn't buy them because there were no pockets!

squishee · 28/06/2024 00:08

I've heard a M2F transperson complaining bitterly about the lack of practical pockets on women's clothes.

I've worn a couple of tunics to death just because they have nice big pockets. Passport-sized - perfect as flight clothes too.

My wedding dress has hidden pockets. Genius!

Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice · 28/06/2024 00:14

I don't understand the AIBU either but I definitely have pants and skirts without pockets. So no, I don't think all ladies' trousers, shorts etc have pockets.

Am I the only one who finds hankies disgusting? My mother is always clutching a ball of snotty rag or pulling one from a sleeve, the thought makes me queasy. Snot should go into a tissue then into a bin. Then wash or sanitise your hands before you touch any common surfaces.

Nocturna · 28/06/2024 00:15

Where is the AIBU dilemma?

Marblessolveeverything · 28/06/2024 00:25

My favourite dress is my favourite dress because it has huge pockets hidden in the skirt. I regularly buy men’s jackets for the pockets.

AnyAnnie · 28/06/2024 00:32

Such a bugbear of mine for womens trousers to have no pockets or pathetic small ones.
WHY? Does the slight outline of a pocket really spoil the line of clothes that are not skin tight? I'm not buying skin tight jeans, I'm buying mom jeans in a large size. The idea that they need smalll pockets to prevent any unflattering lumps is laughable. I need practicality; phone, keys, tissues, plus space for a confiscated hot wheels car or mini spiderman.
Mens pockets are large enough to fit the huge phones and a portabke charger. I've gone to a fold phone purely because it fits in my pockets.
I honestly did a dance of joy when I discovered M+S had made PJs with pockets! Its a life changing difference not having to shove a tissue up your sleeve or down your boobs when you wake up feeling like crap and full of cold.
But the fight for pocket equality remains. For the life of me, I can't fathom why M+S put bigger pockets in their PJs than their jeans.

squishee · 28/06/2024 00:34

BTW OP, is there a "should" missing from your thread title?

POTC · 28/06/2024 00:39

@MigGirl it's so much more than just handbags!

This is one of the reasons I wear men’s shorts.

Jadebanditchillipepper · 28/06/2024 00:56

Of course they should have pockets??

I've decided that I'm not buying anything (dress/trousers/skirt) if it doesn't have pockets. There's no excuse not to include them

Jadebanditchillipepper · 28/06/2024 01:00

It really, really, really annoys me that my nice tiered dresses from Seasalt have no pockets (I probably bought them in a fit of "I can add pockets" domesticity and never got round to it - but why should I have to??). Why?? I might have to take my custom elsewhere

I was wearing an old pair of DHs shorts earlier this week, my phone fits perfectly in the pocket.

Now wearing a pair of mine, it doesn't fit at all, has at least two inches poking out the top and would probably fall out if I kept it in there.

Very annoying.
