Do you think all ladies’ trousers, shorts etc have pockets

All men’s do.

Suffering from hay fever and gone out for the night. Realised that after blowing my nose that my trousers don’t have a pocket to put hankie in.

All mine have pockets. I once bought a pair of trousers which had fake pockets but I hadn't realised. They now have real pockets, but I did wonder at the effort of sewing pocket shapes (extra cutting, material and sewing compared with a smooth line up to the waist band,) and not adding a pocket lining, which would have been quite easy to don't initial making, was a bit harder to unpick and add, although part of that was sowing black thread on black fabric.

I then used them in a talk about the sexism of pockets. At the very least, women's pockets should be big enough to hold a mobile phone essily.

Jadebanditchillipepper · 28/06/2024 00:56

Of course they should have pockets??

I've decided that I'm not buying anything (dress/trousers/skirt) if it doesn't have pockets. There's no excuse not to include them

That's not the question though, OP is asking if they DO have pockets not if they SHOULD.

Although, maybe it's an unfortunate typo as the latter would make a lot more sense as an AIBU.

InWalksBarberalla · 28/06/2024 02:20

How do you only just find out on an night out that your trousers don't have any pockets? Surely you figured that out the first time you tried on?

renthead · 28/06/2024 02:27

I've never understood the obsession with pockets. Almost all my trousers have pockets, but I almost never use them. Seems I'm in a minority though.

Livelaughlurgy · 28/06/2024 07:04

Since getting mom jeans and more relaxed straight jeans I love having my keys and phone in my jeans and off I go. Who'd have thought it would simplify life so much? I don't need a handbag at the supermarket which I then have to carry cos I can't leave in the trolly.

It used to annoy me that my toddler sons had pockets deeper than mine. And one year I bought cheapo matching Christmas pjs and dh bemoaned his didn't have a pocket. This the man that would roll his eyes if I bitched about my clothes not having pockets. Suddenly by not having a pocket on his PJ's he got it. (In truth he accepted it was an issue just didn't get why I'd go off on a rant every so often)

Sirzy · 28/06/2024 07:23

All mine do as I refuse to buy them without!

S0livagant · 28/06/2024 07:27

Any functional work or everyday clothing ought to have pockets. If it's something to wear out where the primary function is the look then maybe not. If there are pockets then they should be the same as in men's clothing of that size.

House key or phone if you go for a walk? Change for cash only stalls at markets?

NightIbble · 28/06/2024 07:30

I was trying to buy work trousers online and it didn't even mention if they had pockets and you couldn't tell by the pictures as they could just be those tiny/pretend pockets. Very frustrating!

TulipCat · 28/06/2024 07:32

No, I hate side pockets on my trousers. I have even been known to sew them up. As a pear shape, pockets add bulk to my widest part, and I never use them anyway because unless they have a zip they aren't very secure. How about we stick with a range of styles to give women the choice?

I agree. I don't like pockets.

Easier not to use them or to sew them up than add them in, therefore I think the default should be pockets.

midgetastic · 28/06/2024 07:38

How many men would be so bothered by their silhouette ? It's such a shame that so many women are

I love pockets , big pockets, as I dislike handbags - they are a faff

MereDintofPandiculation · 28/06/2024 07:38

As well as more clothes needing pockets, we should be able to filter on “pockets” on on-line clothing sites. I don’t have time to scroll through 167 dresses to find the 3 with pockets

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 28/06/2024 07:40

You need this Pockets for Women

SweetLittlePixie · 28/06/2024 07:42

I bought my DD (8) a jacket online recently. Clearly looks like there are pockets, but they were just for looks.
Might be a good thing though, the other day i found a live snail in her old jacket 🤯

TeenDivided · 28/06/2024 07:42

Of course they should but they don't.
I recently dug out an old pair that I now fit into again, and .... no pockets. How does that work on holiday?? DH will have to carry my phone.

Fizbosshoes · 28/06/2024 07:47

Probably a decade ago, some (male) work colleagues bought a lightweight winter jacket from primark that packed into a sort of pouch or bag, and said it was useful for the train.

I bought the women's version. Theirs had outside pockets, inside pockets and a hood. Mine had outside pockets, no inside pockets and no hood!

Branleuse · 28/06/2024 07:49

No of course they dont. I dont want pockets in everything. I carry a bag. Much more practical for me, and as my hips and thighs are my widest part, i really hate having the extra fabric there unless its really thought out to stay in place well.
I wouldnt want breast pockets on all my tops either because i have big tits.
How about people just buy the clothes with the features they like, or work out ways round it. If i want trousers with pockets there are plenty available. I have jeans and cargos with pockets if i want them

Season 4 Reaction GIF by grown-ish

Need an international movement and campaign to convince all women in every country to stop buying clothes without pockets.

#NoPocketsNoBuy
#WomenWantPockets
#WWP

Organise some protests marching between Next and Zara in Milton Keynes.

"What do we want?"
"POCKETS!!"
"When do we want em?"
"AT YOUR EARLIEST CONVENIENCE PLEASE!"

👍🫡

Sounds like a completely different jacket. Couldn't you have bought the same one as the men? Didnt you check it had a hood and pockets first?

WelshDaffodil · 28/06/2024 07:52

Love pockets, hate not having them. Men would never put up with their clothes not having pockets. I've recently got in to Seasalt dresses because some of their styles have pockets. I don't even need a bag much of the time now, just put my keys and phone in my pocket :)

Halfemptyhalfling · 28/06/2024 07:54

Women always used to carry a handbag so didn't need pockets. I think less women like handbags now so more demands for pockets. Outdoor firms do trousers with pockets but smart ware is rare to have pockets

Branleuse · 28/06/2024 07:54

The pocket debate annoys me. I don't buy mens clothes with all their extra features because they are fussy and it bothers me to have extra fabric , and carrying things in pockets rather than a bag means people lose keys etc all the time. Im always hearing stuff about men taking stuff out of pockets and putting them down and then losing keys etc
Get a bag

It doesn't sound like a different jacket, just the women's version. Likely has the same name on it. Men's clothing only fits some women.
