Anyone else wobbling about voting Labour?

MaryMaryVeryContrary · 27/06/2024 17:39

I desperately want to GTTO but the last few years have taught me that ‘any change’ isn’t always good and things can get worse, even if you think they can’t.

I’ve watched all the debates now and Starmer is so… wet. I don’t like him. The first thing he did when women’s rights were mentioned his first thought was men who ‘identify as women’ and how ‘marginalised’ they are. When asked about immigration he squirmed and squirmed before muttering about his role as DPP (who cares? We want to know what you plan to do NOW). When asked about his support for Corbyn he said ‘but I didn’t think we would actually win..’

There’s something about him which is making me very uncomfortable and I just have a bad feeling now about what would happen if he was leader.

Anyone else? If you’re not voting Tory or Labour, who are you voting for and why? I assumed I would vote Labour this time but my gut is suddenly screaming at me not to!

You do realise you vote for your constituency MP, not a Prime Minister? If you’re wobbling, do some research on the candidates in your local area and pick the one that aligns most closely to your values.

This x 100.

IgnoranceNotOk · 27/06/2024 17:44

I’m the same - usually vote labour to vote tactically anyway as I don’t agree with everything in their manifesto.
But now I’m wondering whether to vote green to make the seats a bit more left rather than just all labour.
But I don’t know if this is the right thing to do as I’m still Anyone But Conservative so I want them out!!

DinnaeFashYersel · 27/06/2024 17:44

I'm voting Labour without much enthusiasm but

I hate the SNP and we finally have a chance to oust them locally and the Tories have done a dreadful job and electing a Labour MP will contribute towards getting a Labour Government - which despite everything will be far better than the Tories.

Pussygaloregalapagos · 27/06/2024 17:44

I am voting LibDem as we have a great local candidate and they seem sensible and reasonable. The only ones admitting tax will have to go up to get better services.

I will not tactical vote as I don’t want the Tories but I also don’t want Labour. For me the Tories would be marginally less painful but our Tory candidate is annoying.

AngelicInnocent · 27/06/2024 17:46

As trickabrick said, look at your local candidates. I'm in a redwall area that has always been taken for granted. Last time the tories took it and the new mp has been excellent. He might just get in again as a result

Norpeth · 27/06/2024 17:47

I was going to vote labour. Always have. But I don't know if I can bring myself to. Even tactically voting them feels wrong. I think I I might vote green even though they have no chance here.

helpmewithaname · 27/06/2024 17:48

I have already voted via post and voted for our independent. He is fine. There’s things I like about him and things I don’t, but he’s the best of an awful bunch. It’s Lib Dems or tories where we are, and the thought of voting for either fills me with dread. Then again, so
does the thought of a Labour government as well…… its utter shit we basically have no choice. I read somewhere today Labour could bet a super majority and win by over 400 seats but only have 40% of the actual vote share 😳😳😳😳 how is that democracy!?

Evenstar · 27/06/2024 17:49

This is worth remembering

Anyone else wobbling about voting Labour?
TheSerenePinkOrca · 27/06/2024 17:49

The only 2 candidates in my area that do anything to help out the local folk are libdem and conservative so I'll be voting for one of them. Undecided on which. I've never heard of the labour candidate!

helpmewithaname · 27/06/2024 17:50

That said, the one time I have had an issue that I needed to contact our MP about (Tory) he was kind and helpful.

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 27/06/2024 17:51

I think labour are rightly focused on not fucking up and that's making Starmer come across as wooden.

In power, with a decent majority, I'm 100% sure they'll make thing's significant better.

Tories have a long and proven track record of being both incompetent and evil. Not to mention entitled.

MissingMoominMamma · 27/06/2024 17:51

Ben Wallace (Con) has retired from our constituency AND we now have Cat Smith as our Labour candidate - I’ve never been more excited about voting!!

Maddy70 · 27/06/2024 17:53

No. A boring stable prime minister is exactly what's needed now. Im happy to vote labour this time

OhmygodDont · 27/06/2024 17:53

Locally the best candidates in the areas of the city I have family in are green, followed by cons, dragging up the rear are labour.

I reckon a lot of people don’t actually vote for who’s best locally and get hung up on who’s at the top. So you end up with shit on your own door step.

Thingamebobwotsit · 27/06/2024 17:53

I am voting tactically to remove a odious Tory MP with horrendous views on women. I don't particularly like any party any more but I cannot abide another 5 years of Tories in the pickle they are in.

YaWeeFurryBastard · 27/06/2024 17:53

Me, for the reasons you say and because I don’t want labour to have a large majority and lurch further to the left.

Also, many labour voters are completely intolerant to the views of others and I’ve been called a thick racist many times for not always voting labour. That makes it very difficult for me to get on board as I think it’s dangerous to just denounce the opinion of anyone who’s ever voted Tory/brexit etc. I don’t feel welcomed or heard as a swing voter.

Bluevelvetsofa · 27/06/2024 17:53

I’m probably going to tactically vote Lib Dem because the candidate is the only one who has a realistic chance of ousting Gillian Keegan. The LD also lives in the constituency, and has done for some time and is aware of local challenges.

Mnetcurious · 27/06/2024 17:53

I usually vote LD. Next week I’ll be tactically voting Labour as for the first time ever it looks like they may actually beat the Tory in my constituency’s (until now) very safe Conservative seat. I understand your wobbles but for me, other than the even farther right parties, it really can’t get worse than the Tories.

Oldandcobwebby · 27/06/2024 17:57

I'm more than happy to vote labour. Although, to be fair, I'd happily vote for King Kong rather than have to endure another 14 years of corruption and racism under this bloody awful mob.

scalt · 27/06/2024 17:57

Give me a “wooden” prime minister who gets on with it any day over a slick, smooth salesman who sells miracles like Blair or Johnson.

YaWeeFurryBastard · 27/06/2024 17:58

Comments like this just further illustrate my point tbh. I find the vocal sect of labour voters who think they have a monopoly on morality pretty scary.

Greenismyfav · 27/06/2024 17:58

I always tactically vote Labour as they are the best chance of beating the SNP and I wanted to this time, but I can’t.

No Labour minister has been able to say that they will keep single sex spaces for biological women so either they don’t understand this very basic point (in which case why haven’t they been listening! Or are they unbelievably thick) or they want to open up the single sex spaces to anyone who claim a to be a man, which is quite frankly terrifying as those poor nurses in Co Durham are finding out.

Get a grip Labour. This is not hard! All you have to do is come out and say this abd you will have my vote and countless others. A constituency was won by the SNP in Scotland by two votes recently. Do you really want to win? Because it doesn’t seem like it to me.

Ihateslugs · 27/06/2024 17:59

Im voting Lib Dem as our Tory MP is useless, very rarely seen in our local area and does not live in the constituency ( rents a flat ). At the last election it was 46% Tory and 42% Lib Dem so I’m hopeful the local guy whose kids go to the High School and is very involved with life in the area get in. We did have a Lib Dem MP when I moved here 12 years ago and he was brilliant.

OMGitsnotgood · 27/06/2024 18:01

the last few years have taught me that ‘any change’ isn’t always good and things can get worse

I guess you are referring to the change in PMs? The Tories have been in power for 14 years and right now I'd say 'any change' is definitely a good thing
