Anyone else wobbling about voting Labour?

1000 replies

MaryMaryVeryContrary · 27/06/2024 17:39

I desperately want to GTTO but the last few years have taught me that ‘any change’ isn’t always good and things can get worse, even if you think they can’t.

I’ve watched all the debates now and Starmer is so… wet. I don’t like him. The first thing he did when women’s rights were mentioned his first thought was men who ‘identify as women’ and how ‘marginalised’ they are. When asked about immigration he squirmed and squirmed before muttering about his role as DPP (who cares? We want to know what you plan to do NOW). When asked about his support for Corbyn he said ‘but I didn’t think we would actually win..’

There’s something about him which is making me very uncomfortable and I just have a bad feeling now about what would happen if he was leader.

Anyone else? If you’re not voting Tory or Labour, who are you voting for and why? I assumed I would vote Labour this time but my gut is suddenly screaming at me not to!

Nope , O Torybot!

You've probably got a point there. I don't believe the OP is wobbling about voting Labour for one minute.

BeachParty · 27/06/2024 18:54

"Voting for the conservatives to prioritise women and girls."

Good grief, just when you think you've heard it all.

Tiddlywinkly · 27/06/2024 18:54

I've already submitted by postal vote. I've spoilt my ballot. There's no way I'm voting Tory and I've lost my patience with Starmer and his vague mumblings. I live in a safe Labour area, so they'll win here anyway.

Shinyandnew1 · 27/06/2024 18:55

10 seconds thinking about how I'd feel about waking up on 5 July to another 5 years of this appalling self serving government and the terrible harm they've caused is enough to be good to go with my vote for Labour.

I agree with this. I can just imagine how funny the Tories would find it that they could behave so appallingly and still get voted back in, that standards of conduct would only continue to further decline.

But he’s not boring and stable, he’s boring and slippery. He seems unable to give a straightforward answer to anything. The only times he seems passionate are when he’s talking about trans people or his father’s occupation.

It’s not the boring that’s the issue no

NetballHoop · 27/06/2024 18:57

I don't have any wobble over Labour but I do have a full on Tsunami over the idea of more Tory government.

SkylarkDay · 27/06/2024 18:57

Starmer may not have film star charisma but he seems a decent sensible sort with standards on behaving with dignity and professionalism in the job. Something the present government are incapable of. Personally I think that’s what’s needed after this entitled, corrupt government of the last few years who think rules only apply to us plebs/the public. The endless scandals and bad behaviour of the Tories has repeatedly been allowed and because they’re all posh, they think it’s fine. There’s been no accountability of bad behaviour or corruption. I think we desperately need someone boring and sensible now.

However personally I’ve voted Lib Dem by postal vote already as my local area is closely split between Tories and Lib Dem. Literally there was less than a 1000 votes between them in 2019. We have a new Tory candidate here and she’s awful. At her launch in town she actually had a cardboard cut out of Margaret Thatcher!! Whereas the Lib Dem chap has been tirelessly campaigning, talking about fighting to improve our rivers and stopping closing some of our hospital services. He seems sensible and to know what most locals are worried about. Conservative lady just told locals who are at risk of flooding during storms to stop flushing toilets during rain!! No mention of making water companies invest in infrastructure instead of paying out huge dividends to shareholders! Lib Dem are expected to knock the Tories out here, I for one will be doing a victory dance if so!! Also by voting for Lib Dem I’ve inadvertently cast a tactical vote for Labour anyway which would be my preferred government outcome. To be fair, no one party is perfect, but the Conservatives are about as bad as it gets in my opinion.

ChurchCats · 27/06/2024 18:58

frightenedmum1 · 27/06/2024 18:47

Nope , O Torybot!

And there's an example for you. Anyone who voices even a wobble about voting Labour must be a Torybot.

How fucking arrogant-there can be no other opinion than Labour is Good and Tories are Evil. I imagine it being said in a Dalek like voice....maybe David Tennant could relive his Dr Who years and voice it, while also adding

Women have penises. Women with penises are on the march and endorsed by the Labour party.. Vote for Female penises. Vote for Labour. Vote for Change. If you're a woman-t'will be a big change.

NeedANewOne25 · 27/06/2024 18:59

I’m voting Lib Dem, I recently heard all our candidates speak, our Lib Dem candidate was brilliant and is well respected for what he does locally and answered all the questions well. I was going to vote Labour, but the candidate was really poor. I won’t vote Tory, so that’s that! SDP terrible, Independent terrible, Reform terrible, Green vaguely OK on some issues. So Lib Dem it will be.

McTatt · 27/06/2024 18:52

Totally agree. SNP have shown themselves to be incompetent bullies but a vote for Labour is potentially a vote against women.

And Nicola allowing men into woman’s prisons ? I take it you think that’s a vote for woman? Baffling!

Personality Politcs is where is all went wrong “ah but Boris was so funny, with his funny hair, and his funny mismatched clothes” erm no, he was a dangerous liar, who hid behind a bumbling facade.
Give me boring politicians every day of the week .. I don’t want people interested in their next photo-op, or appearance on a chat show. I want people who take the job seriously. I want intelligent, thoughtful and measured people.

Will a back search show you wobbling on Labour or just being critical of them? We're you supporting them before this thread?

whowhatwhen · 27/06/2024 19:04

I'm voting libdem, we are a marginal conservative/libdem seat, labour don't stand a chance so we have an alternative option that should help drive some change without having to vote either labour or conservative. I couldn't vote labour in any case, I have a child in private school and their VAT policy is bonkers.

I'm more than happy to vote labour. Although, to be fair, I'd happily vote for King Kong rather than have to endure another 14 years of corruption and racism under this bloody awful mob.

Same here.

Thankfully the polls are still showing a strong labour lead 🤞🏼

Very confused by this! Labour is a probably vote against women. SNP is a very definite vote against women!

Well, yes. There are a small core of Labour supporters who are frankly demented to the extent they believe anybody who doesn’t say Labour are perfect and wonderful, is a bot.

Erm the economy is failing currently….
Highest taxes in 70 years. Unemployment climbing. Tory manifesto declared to be cloud cuckoo land. Levelling up a failure and a lie. Corruption. Lying. Brexshite.
Ok so trans people will be put in their place but how on earth can you vote for more of the same….

Edited

I believe things can become far worse than they are now with the economy. We avoided a recession despite the pandemic and the war, and I feel things are improving here certainly. The conservatives have worked very hard to steady our country in the most choppy of times and can be trusted to continue.

My main reason for voting conservatives however is Labour and particularly Mr Starmer's refusal to recognise me as a biological woman of equal importance to a man Simon. They do not appear keen to continue supporting my human rights.
I have young daughters that are just coming of age, and I do not want them to have to compete with men in their sports teams, get changed with men in their fashion stores and be at serious risk in hospitals etc. I am very worried about the direction of travel, I felt great relief when the new legislation came in recently regarding single sex spaces, and fear a Labour reversal.

Mr Starmer has been very disrespectful and dismissive of women's rights and wishes, and I fear what he will do next. I do not trust him to do the right thing for any of us and fear we will end up in a terrible state.

I am struggling to think of a single policy of Labour's, or anyone on their front benches apart from Angela Raynor. They are not intellectual heavyweights, and have no experience in office. I think Russia and China are very likely to take full advantage of a weak administration.

GreenExpert · 27/06/2024 18:47

People go an about Starmer being boring, I couldn't care less about that, I care about the fact that he's deeply untrustworthy

He really is

In all the interviews I have watched he has never given a straight answer to anything

SO unlikeable and untrustworthy

boring too, but not bothered about that

AngryBird6122 · 27/06/2024 19:11

SiobhanSharpe · 27/06/2024 18:30

I am fearful that Labour won't protect anyone's daughters.

No they won't

I am worried

taxguru · 27/06/2024 19:13

I'd like to see the libdems as the official opposition as it "may" just make the Commons and particularly PMQT more professional. I can't imagine Starmer and Davey acting like complete idiots against eachother with the usual stupid jibes that we've come to expect after Blair, Cameron, Boris, Milliband, Corbyn and especially Sunak. Time for an end to all that nonsense and I think a combo of Starmer and Davey could actually be the catalyst.

IAmTheQuarry · 27/06/2024 19:13

starmer has really not performed well on any of the televised debates. I have started to question whether he suffers from anxiety as he always seems so uncomfortable and ' bunny in the headlights 'when confronted with on the spot questions. He appears to freeze and panic - you can actually see the fear behind his eyes.. I do worry about his ability to represent our interests on the world stage when he will meet with far tougher opponents than little rishi...All the same, Labour for me.
