Anyone else wobbling about voting Labour?

1000 replies

MaryMaryVeryContrary · 27/06/2024 17:39

I desperately want to GTTO but the last few years have taught me that ‘any change’ isn’t always good and things can get worse, even if you think they can’t.

I’ve watched all the debates now and Starmer is so… wet. I don’t like him. The first thing he did when women’s rights were mentioned his first thought was men who ‘identify as women’ and how ‘marginalised’ they are. When asked about immigration he squirmed and squirmed before muttering about his role as DPP (who cares? We want to know what you plan to do NOW). When asked about his support for Corbyn he said ‘but I didn’t think we would actually win..’

There’s something about him which is making me very uncomfortable and I just have a bad feeling now about what would happen if he was leader.

Anyone else? If you’re not voting Tory or Labour, who are you voting for and why? I assumed I would vote Labour this time but my gut is suddenly screaming at me not to!

Labour will be in power for at least 5 yrs and during that time, with their views on gender/sex, what damage will they do to the rights of women

I'm far more worried that we won't have an NHS and be able to see a doctor/have an operation if we aren't in a position to pay for it.

Mickey33 · 28/06/2024 21:05

Just watch Nigel Farage on question time and he speaks a lot of sense -straight to the point.

Dynababy · 28/06/2024 21:11

In a word - no

Shame about the content of the "point".

mrlistersgelfbride · 28/06/2024 21:14

No.

But I wouldn't be surprised if Reform get in round here. Some absolute weapon has plastered 'Vote Reform' posters around my daughter's school. Not if they were the last political party on earth.

Never been more sure of voting labour. I hate the Tories and what they have done to this country.

It's mad that people see the Tories as 'the party that protect women'. They are playing this card and people are lapping it up. Have you heard yourselves? You think they care about the average woman? What a load of shite.

Mickey33 · 28/06/2024 21:16

Well let’s hope you are all right about Labour and they are going to make Britain better! I just think it’s worth looking into other parties not just the main two!

Tomatina · 28/06/2024 21:17

No I'm not wobbling. Voting Labour is the way to get the Tories out, unless you are tactically voting for another party in a constituency where Labour has no chance. The first priority is to get the Tories out and Labour in. Once that's done, and that's huge, we can argue about the detail.

NeelyOHara1 · 28/06/2024 21:21

Starmer's rhetoric, at least, of thinking and planning long term, public service as opposed to self-service and country before Party gives me hope😐

Kjpt140v · 28/06/2024 20:32

Not a single one of your quotes was accurate. Tory Troll.

If that's me, I'm afraid to you're very much mistaken - my voting history is Labour (Blair x2), abstained, liberal (Clegg x1), conservative (May), abstained for (Johnson/Corbyn), undecided in 2024. I like Sunak, but don't trust conservatives...
So Tory troll,I don't think so. To apply the same sort of short sighted bigotry I assume you're an habitual reactionary labour voter. Is that how this works - lobbing insults at each other? Seems a bit counter productive.

PrimoPiatti · 28/06/2024 21:29

We are not voting for Labour,

We are voting the Tories out.

We have no local possible alternative so it's hold nose and vote for Labour.

tillyandmilly · 28/06/2024 21:31

Labour won’t be getting my vote this election

Cooper77 · 28/06/2024 21:31

Starmer’s weasel words about Jeremy Corbyn have really put me off. First of all, anyone who supported that loony-left dinosaur isn’t fit to run a country. But his response was pathetic. What of earth did he mean when he said “oh, I only supported Corbyn because I knew he’d lose.” No, sorry, that is not how a potential leader behaves. A man who wants to lead a country should have principles. He should have come right out and said “I’m sorry Mr Corbyn. I like and respect you as a man, but I disagree with your politics. It would be dishonest of me to support you, even if you are bound to lose.” Unless he really did support Corbyn. In which case he’s basically a communist who is pretending to be centre-left.

Of course the conservatives care about women. Women are 54%of the voting population (I think that's right).
Of course Reform won't get in in but they will gobble conservatives, then they'll be ripe for takeover by Farage, as Trump did with the Republicans. Farage is playing a much longer game than starmer or Sunak.

croydon15 · 28/06/2024 21:44

Change may be good but will Labour be a chance for better or worse, l fear worse, more tax all round and the gender issue doesn't sit well with me. I thought Karmer was married.

And you think Labour do? They can’t even define what one is so how will they act in their best interests?

Labour is a misogynistic anti semetic mess. Their leader can’t stand up and say what he means to an ordinary voter, how’s he going to fare with Putin? It’s clear he’s an appeaser with no back bone. That is really not what we need now!!! It’s not just this (very important) point. It tells us who he is, it tells us how he approaches difficult situations. If there’s one thing for sure there’s a lot of very difficult situations that are about to hit us head on. Not just this country, but the world. Do you really want someone, who let’s face it comes out with “Twaddle” every time someone asks him a question

Hes the worst of a bad lot

Really? Have you read their suggested policies? If so, there is not much that could redeem you.

You do know how this all works don’t you? If Labour are in power there will be no “arguing about the detail later” the next chance you will have a say is in 5 years by which time it will be too late.

You need to decide now, do you support women’s rights or not, that is the first priority for me. Labour is not in the running for me (and thankfully locally not for many).

Well if enough people think like this, they probably will be.

It’s about 1% of the electorate who even consider it in their voting decision so I doubt they’ll lose any sleep.

And you’re sure that statistic is accurate?

Devonbabs · 28/06/2024 22:11

I like the clarity in the Heritage Party’s manifesto.
“School children should not be exposed to unscientific nonsense like queer theory or gender fluidity. It is a scientific fact that there are two sexes: male and female, which are determined by anatomy and chromosomes. Previously on the fringe of radical thought, gender ideology has been which has been mainstreamed to the detriment of children’s well- being. Transgender propaganda which confuses children about their biological sex and damages their natural development as boys or girls should not be allowed in schools.”

unfortunately they are anti abortion so not for me, otherwise they probably would have got my vote.

Middleagedspreadisreal · 28/06/2024 22:14

I've always voted Labour and will do again, because I'm working class and they have always stood for working class values. I find Keir Starmer caring, articulate and intelligent. So is my local Labour canditate, who will definitely get my vote because the current Tory represantative is a snake.

Totally with you OP but I want to GTTO no matter what and voting Labour is the only way to do that.

I've always voted Labour and was/am a huge Corbyn supporter. I fully believe we missed a once in a lifetime opportunity with him and I still get upset about this, as I do about Brexit.

The problem these days is that 99.9% of all of them are self serving out of touch closet Tories. There is no real alternative. BUT we must get the current shower of [ Grin insert your own wording...] out.

It will take decades to recover from the damage they've managed to do in 14 yrs

I find this contradictory.

Corbyn remained tight lipped when the country voted for Brexit. He could have come out and advised his supporters to vote Remain. He could have stood with Cameron and both could have appealed to a huge number of voters. Lots of tory dogs are responsible for Brexit, but Corbyn was more than complicit.
