To think this is inappropriate for teachers

Hi. My sons classmates parents are having all the teachers around to the house for end of year dinner. I'm a bit miffed as to why. Maybe it's me but I think it's not very appropriate?

Miffed as to why? What does that mean?

It means like I don't get why you would do it

End of year dinner or piss up? And all as in some? Is this just a party for a few teachers?

Greenlittecat · 26/06/2024 15:32

Depends if they're friends outside of school! My parents were good friends with the deputy head of my primary school so we saw him A LOT outside of school hours. Because of this, they were also friends with a lot of the teachers as would mingle at mutual friends birthday parties etc. I had to call him Mr. Soandso though!

If they aren't friends then I would think its a bit odd.

Possibly both. All the teachers not staff in general as far as I'm aware

If they're friends then its understandable. Is the worry that it leads to favouritism? Nowt you can do about it really.

Miffed means annoyed, not confused.

I agree that it's very odd though, OP. I've been a teacher for 30 years and I've never heard of such a thing. If they are friends with them outside of school, totally fair enough. If not, then it's weird.

Not necessarily. Parent A and Teacher A may be friends, but Teacher A has said why dont Teachers B and C come along too, hence end of year dinner party.

KrisAkabusi · 26/06/2024 15:41

How is it inappropriate? Are teachers not allowed to have friends? Or eat dinner outside their own homes?

Screamingabdabz · 26/06/2024 15:42

Could one of them be the Chair of Governors? They might just be doing an end of year thank you?

Bewareofthisonetoo · 26/06/2024 15:43

Is this still a thing?
My Dc were at a prestigious London Day School and the protocol at the time was for the boys’ tutor (form teacher) to be invited round for dinner. Exh and I were absolutely not going to do that, and luckily the tutor agreed he would really rather not 😁😁

I work in my sons school....therefore I know all the teachers.
If this parent is the same then its hardly inappropriate. Would only be weird if she didn't actually personally know them other than being the child's teacher.

Aw, bless. Why haven’t they invited you?

LakeTiticaca · 26/06/2024 15:59

As the child of these parents I would be mortified if all the teachers came round to my house.
It was bad enough when one of my primary teachers came round to pick up some sewing my mum had done for her 😬🤨
