David Tennant: women should "shut up"

1000 replies

jacksonlamb · 26/06/2024 13:36

As a (now ex) David Tennant fan I was so disappointed to hear his speech yesterday. Whilst talking about trans rights he told his audience that he wanted a world where "we wake up and Kemi Badenoch doesn't exist anymore. I don't wish ill of her, I just wish her to shut up."

(There's some devious doublespeak here: if you wish someone didn't exist, you obviously wish them ill).

But more importantly, how dare he tell women to shut up about women's rights. Yet again powerful and privileged men tell women what they are and are not allowed to say. They must shut up whilst men speak. Their views are wrong, men are right.

Anyone has the right to believe that the rights of trans people are more important than the rights of women (although I believe this is profoundly wrong). What they do not have the right to do is bully, belittle and threaten women who disagree with them; who are trying to protect their hard fought rights.

I despair.

I thought she was against abortion but looking into it further it seems she voted against abortion up to 10 weeks without an inperson consultation with a registered practitioner, which I agree with

Unless I've misunderstood?

I find it astonishing that people genuinely think Sunak, Badenoch and other politicians wouldn't change their position on this in an instant if they thought it would win them more votes.

In fairness, I think most of us - and certainly those of us on the left politically - are well aware that the issue of women's rights is being used as a tactic to try and win more votes.

At the moment though we're in the pathetic position of just being grateful for literally ANYONE who's willing to stand up for the rights of biological women, and to define us as our own sex class.

Doesn't mean that we think they're good people or that they're not doing it for underhand and self-serving purposes. Nevertheless, it's still helpful for the importance of biological sex to be said out loud and publicly.

TheKeatingFive · 28/06/2024 00:38

Onedayatatime22 · 28/06/2024 00:31

I don't believe she is genuine in her reasons for raising this issue.

So what, you think she doesn't believe in it?

Absolutely this. It's pathetic that THIS is the position we're in, in 2024.

Women should be able to have the choice to terminate their pregnancy.
You can't (or shouldn't) be able to force someone to stay pregnant.

Obviously, but like I said , as far as I'm aware she voted against women being given pills without an actual face to face consultation with a medical practitioner which is completely different to being against abortion

Itsprobablynotcominhome · 28/06/2024 06:37

As per upthread she also voted against at home abortions and exclusion zones around abortion clinics.

I raised this a few hundred posts ago but none of the fan girls have yet to respond to this, or to answer any ways in which KB or the Tories have made life better for women.

Blinkered and one track minded.

Because this isn't a thread about KB's voting record. There is nothing she could vote for or against that would make it ok for someone to wish her out of existence.

Hope that helps.

Also known as: Even women you don't like deserve not to be treated as subhuman and have people wishing them dead.

dougalfromthemagicroundabout · 28/06/2024 07:08

There is a terrifying trend where men are emboldened to act as if women don't have human rights and are subhuman. Some men probably secretly thought it all along but saying it out loud to a cheering crowd is another thing.

Look around the world. Women in Afghanistan now have no human rights and are treated as subhuman and there is little to no media reporting about that now. the UN is normalising the exclusion of women and legitimising the anti women's rights Taliban government: https://www.hrw.org/news/2024/06/24/un-meeting-blocks-afghan-women-agenda-participation

It doesn't matter if the woman is 'pure' or not. Misogyny needs to be called out.

That wouldn't be all women. The majority would disagree with most of her views.

Oh you know what I mean ...picking on my comment word for word is stupid. The bottom line is, all women or some women who the hell is he to tell anyone to shut up .

A few women have voiced concerns about KB and her views and they've been swiftly shut down for wrong think.

I'd actually like to hear what others think of her but apparently that's not allowed.

CupboardTV · 28/06/2024 07:33

It feels like the easiest way for the TRA to solve this trans problem is for women to just shut up - that's the message that those idiots at Stonewall like to promote and I think it worked for a while - those brave whinging fuckers, who did say something were threatened, abused, bullied and lost their jobs.
I recently brought up this topic amongst a group of women I meet monthly - no one had mentioned it before - we come from diverse political backgrounds - no one felt it didn't matter and they didn't care - they all cared about women losing their right to sex-based spaces and competitive sports. It's the one topic we all agreed on - please don't think because it hasn't been talked about, that it doesn't matter to women.
Men take a lot longer to understand - why can't women just be nice and kind - that's what we're supposed to be - and when it comes to sport, well they've never really taken women's sport seriously so it's not a big deal for them.
When I have heard men raise the topic it's to express how they can't understand how an issue that affects such a small percentage of the population gets so much politician time - it's completely disproportionate.

Onedayatatime22 · 28/06/2024 07:49

@TheKeatingFive I believe she is using it as a political strategy to rile people up and get votes. Her voting record showed she has little real concern for the wellbeing of women overall.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/06/2024 07:59

in case there is any doubt how much of a misogynistic piece of shit tennant is, an interview has now surfaced on Twitter after the speech in which he calls women standing up for their rights ‘a tiny group of whinging fuckers’

so now it really is directed at all women who stand up for their rights - not just Badenoch.

There wasn't any doubt, but FFS.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/06/2024 08:02

That wouldn't be all women. The majority would disagree with most of her views.

The majority agree with her on trans issues. There is no public support for most of the things trans rights activists demand, according to polls.

Are the 'whinging fuckers' he refers to GC feminists?

That came AFTER she faced a backlash about saying it was trivial. she said it after realising she had screwed up. Do you really think she meant it, or was she just saving herself??

(Your reply to ScribblingPixie)

No, it didn't come after - it quite clearly says at the beginning of your link;

The business secretary, who last week described Mr Hester's reported remarks as racist.

ScribblingPixie's screenshot was dated 12 March and your link 18 March.

It's also not a thread about Keir starmer or JK Rowling or Posie Parker but they've all been mentioned. The fact is, you know that KB has done fuck all for women and you have nothing to say about it apart from "what about...."

People on this thread are holding up KB as a champion of women's rights, and one said she's done more for women's rights than KS.

The evidence shows the opposite and KB's fan girls have nothing at all to say. Id have more respect if anyone of you said "yes actually KB's voting record is poor in terms of womens rights, and she doesn't appear to have done anything to improve the lives of women while she's been minister for women, but DT shouldn't have said what he said".

Of course DT was wrong to say what he said. But KB is not a champion or a hero. I would have thought feminists would be more careful about who they throw their lot in with.

What a steaming turd that man really is 😠

A friend on my FB posted a pic of DT the other day in his 'you'll have to go through me' t-shirt, saying 'as if we couldn't love him more' - ugh.

Rory Stewart says that voting record is not an accurate indication of an MP or Minister’s personal achievements and interests, as they are whipped by the party and have to vote with the party on most issues. If you continually vote against your party, you’re not going to last for long.

I agree with this too. Women need proper healthcare not pills chucked at them and told to fuck off and get on with it.

It does. What questions do you think should be asked? Yougov leans towards pro TRA, btw, so you're barking up the wrong tree if you think it's been manipulated to suit GC views.
