David Tennant: women should "shut up"

1000 replies

jacksonlamb · 26/06/2024 13:36

As a (now ex) David Tennant fan I was so disappointed to hear his speech yesterday. Whilst talking about trans rights he told his audience that he wanted a world where "we wake up and Kemi Badenoch doesn't exist anymore. I don't wish ill of her, I just wish her to shut up."

(There's some devious doublespeak here: if you wish someone didn't exist, you obviously wish them ill).

But more importantly, how dare he tell women to shut up about women's rights. Yet again powerful and privileged men tell women what they are and are not allowed to say. They must shut up whilst men speak. Their views are wrong, men are right.

Anyone has the right to believe that the rights of trans people are more important than the rights of women (although I believe this is profoundly wrong). What they do not have the right to do is bully, belittle and threaten women who disagree with them; who are trying to protect their hard fought rights.

I despair.

I will attempt to find it. A quick google shows her support for Kellie-jay Keen though. Unfortunately lunch has been bought, and I'm going back in the basement and crappy internet again now though.

But, would you care to accept that I wasn't lying about the quote?

You said JK agrees that women who disagree with her should be wiped out. You are now trying to deflect from that.

That JK agrees with Kellie-Jay's stance on men in women's spaces is no surprise to me or most people. Most women agree with both of them (even if some have been intimidated by men to deny it).

I will not allow you to deflect and neither will I apologise for doubting you until you provide specific proof in the form of a link that JK said she agrees that women who disagree with her should be wiped out.

Gammon might be a harsh insult, but it’s not racist.

Femi disagrees with you

Clearly you don’t care. So foolish to hand over the only thing that is legally going to protect you and your children, but you do you. Every single friend of mine is all over this issue in real life and colleagues of mine, my daughter’s uni friends are now up in arms about it.“

Mine aren’t. Neither are those of my 29 year old daughter or 21 year old son because none of us have been negatively affected by trans people.

Would you have been fine with Self ID?

MrsSkylerWhite · 27/06/2024 12:59

There isn’t going to be self ID so irrelevant.

Stars71 · 27/06/2024 13:00

It's no wonder JKR gets so much support. Whereas she remains dignified in her posts, Tenant has outed himself as an aggressive hypocrite. Some men simply can't handle smart, vocal women.

Well your dd soon will be or do you not have the wherewithal to work that out. Any future granddaughters will be completely shafted.

Well, that's not true. Where did you get the idea that was a fact?

I have responded to Cupcake in great detail about the achievements of women of colour at the highest level of government during the Conservative Party's term of office.

I suggest you save yourself the trouble of trying to get through to her. It's even more futile and exhausting than trying to get a relevant link out of BoredandLost.

And that's saying something...

And you can’t see a connection between women speaking up and this outcome?

You spend time talking about no one cares but you can’t see a minority of men were pushing hard for it and still would given the chance.

How about men in women’s sports?

These things change whilst you say don’t bother.

There might as well be. All a man needs to do is 1 consultation with a GP and bam that's it. They have the cert.

Not sure on your criteria. Do you mean women of colour? The info's readily online if you want to do your own research. But I know Helen Grant was the first female Anglo-African MP - she's been there more than 10 years.

First female Anglo-African TORY MP.

It’s odd as they say they didn’t want Self ID etc but then spend their energy taking down women who achieved that outcome

Doesn’t align. I know it’s party loyalty but still

Sad, isn't it? Sisterhood has gone out of the window.“

Women aren’t an homogenous blob. There are many opinions, each of which the holder is entitled to hold and each obviously, believes they are correct.

The idea that women must all agree about everything for the sake of “sisterhood” is just silly.

Like I keep saying, not a possibility right now, but will do my best. It's A LOT of posting she has done to wade through. A LOT!

Kemi Banedoch supports a man who thinks a black woman should be shot, and that his comment was trivial. JK Rowling openly supports a woman who said that women who disagree with her will be annihilated.

You stick to being oh so delicately offended that I won't waste time finding a specific tweet. You just keep accusing me of being a liar because it makes you feel better.

Technically. None. As we currently don't have any MP's ;)

MrsSkylerWhite · 27/06/2024 13:18

I said self ID is irrelevant.

There are some opinions I share with activists. Transwomen should not be competing in sports with biological women, for example. That’s just common sense.

What I really don’t like is the starting point of some that all TW are a physical threat. They’re not. Most just want to be left alone to live their lives in peace.

It puts me in mind of the attitude of many towards homosexual people when I was growing up. That they were all perverts or paedophiles. Time has proven that wrong and I’ve no doubt it will do the same in respect of trans people.

Sisterhood? HA!

30 years ago I "couldn't be feminist" because I wore makeup to work
Then I couldn't be a feminist as I used Miss and not Ms
Then I "couldn't be feminist" because I took my husbands last name
Then I couldn't be feminist because I changed careers away from being the only female.
Then I can't be feminist because I have my own fights I'm fighting and don't take up other peoples - which they deem more important
Now I can't be a feminist if I support the conversation to find a fairer middle ground in the trans debate where everyone has the right to safety

There has never been a sisterhood.

Not all TW are a threat obviously but TW as a group retain the patterns of male violence that other men have. Which is why there are single sex spaces to protect women and provide us with safety and dignity.

That.

Exactly.

Neither the current Labour proposal or 'Self ID' as proposed in Scotland increase the risk to women one jot from what they are now or what they were before the Gender Recognition Act.

The Gender Recognition Certificate gets a new birth certificate so you can marry and, eventually, be certified dead in your new gender.
