David Tennant: women should "shut up"

1000 replies

jacksonlamb · 26/06/2024 13:36

As a (now ex) David Tennant fan I was so disappointed to hear his speech yesterday. Whilst talking about trans rights he told his audience that he wanted a world where "we wake up and Kemi Badenoch doesn't exist anymore. I don't wish ill of her, I just wish her to shut up."

(There's some devious doublespeak here: if you wish someone didn't exist, you obviously wish them ill).

But more importantly, how dare he tell women to shut up about women's rights. Yet again powerful and privileged men tell women what they are and are not allowed to say. They must shut up whilst men speak. Their views are wrong, men are right.

Anyone has the right to believe that the rights of trans people are more important than the rights of women (although I believe this is profoundly wrong). What they do not have the right to do is bully, belittle and threaten women who disagree with them; who are trying to protect their hard fought rights.

I despair.

If you can Mumsnet, surely you can Google? 🫠

Ah, yes. I must, obviously be lying.

I am sat in a hospital waiting room with very limited internet, unable to usefully google.

But yeah, just call me a liar. Why am I not surprised. Go vote for Johnny Mercer.

You made it up. Neither Posy Parker nor J. K. Rowling have said they wanted to wipe anyone out. You shouldn't be surprised if people think you are lying.

Prove me wrong if you can. I can wait.

In the meantime I'll vote for whoever I like. Nothing to do with you.

I'm mildly curious about Johnny Mercer though, so I might look him up...

Champagneme · 27/06/2024 11:55

Regardless of political persuasion, I agree that what DT said was disgusting.

There was a pause between basically wishing for her existence to end and then catching himself to say he wished her no harm.

I couldn’t quite believe he actually said this out loud. And it was even more worrying that people cheered.

Take all political or cultural arguments out of the discussion for a moment and analyse what was said in isolation. DT is not a nice person at all and neither are the people cheering him on.

TheKeatingFive · 27/06/2024 11:56

What's this new technique about btw?

This is second time I've seen it used on here on this topic. But two different posters.

  1. post something pretty controversial
  2. get asked for evidence - none is forthcoming
  3. aggressive 'are you calling me a liar' post, sometimes with dark hints to MN T&Cs

Awful, juvenile tactics.

Good point. Is it possible that Bored has told us another porky pie?

Come on Bored, put us doubters to shame. Give us the relevant link, if it exists...

BoredandLost · 27/06/2024 12:00

I can't open links in google. Mumsnet is much lower bandwidth and it's almost entirely text based.

I did find the quote from the delightful Kellie-Jay:

"Each and every one of you women who stand in my way, each and every one of you, let me just tell you. You will be annihilated."

This is a statement that JK Rowling has supported.

Bored can save her honour and put those of us who doubted her to shame by posting the relevant link.

Not in a position to get the links right now. But it was originally said by Posie Parker, retweeted by JK Rowling who doubled down and said she agreed.

Ok then...😂

Are you accusing me of making that up??

Give me 20 minutes or so and I'll have a break and can leave the basement from hell and I'll find you the video of her saying it. And JK Rowlings support.

No that's a racist slur that Progressive lefties use.

Pink & posh = descriptors

Gammon = ugly slur

Gammon might be a harsh insult, but it’s not racist.

Not really. There are 365 Tory MPs. There's one black female MP. You can bluster all you like, the facts speak for themselves.

And yet DT only wishes out of existence that one black female MP and not any of the men, many of whom hold the same opinions to KB on most things, but perhaps are less willing to fight hard for women's rights and child safeguarding.

You could easily have made that up.

We need a link to what Kellie-Jay said AND JK's endorsement.

What the hell is that supposed to mean?

Gag City is a concept that Nicki Minaj’s fan base came up with and is the title of her World Tour (alongside Pink Friday 2). My username is also a play on Tyga’s lyric ‘Rack City Bitch.’

Username don’t give anything away. Especially when someone doesn’t understand the reference and fails to use common sense

Perhaps it's to do with her position in the government and her stance on Trans rights. She's very vocal about them.

Does it ever apply to anyone who is not white?

Just been searching google, twitter, wayback machine and twitter archives.

So what you are referring to is a screenshot made of a podcast KJK did. Some has added text to the screenshot which claims to be the words of KJK. It says: "Each and every one of you women who stand in our way...you will be annihilated."

I cannot find any footage of KJK actually saying those words, nor can I find any indication of who originally made the screenshot and pasted those words on it, claiming they are the words of KJK.

That screenshot was tweeted by a user called TIMB_Tweets on 07/08/23, claiming that JKR supported these words of KJK. I cannot find any evidence of this.

So, totally unverified and dodgy claim with no primary source evidence.

If I have time this weekend (am marching with lesbians at Pride so will be busy!), I'll go through JKR's tweets from August 2023 and see if I can find the original source.

Doubt I will, but always happy to help out a fellow mumsnetter @BoredandLost

It’s women’s rights

Trans is for those with a male focus
