David Tennant: women should "shut up"

As a (now ex) David Tennant fan I was so disappointed to hear his speech yesterday. Whilst talking about trans rights he told his audience that he wanted a world where "we wake up and Kemi Badenoch doesn't exist anymore. I don't wish ill of her, I just wish her to shut up."

(There's some devious doublespeak here: if you wish someone didn't exist, you obviously wish them ill).

But more importantly, how dare he tell women to shut up about women's rights. Yet again powerful and privileged men tell women what they are and are not allowed to say. They must shut up whilst men speak. Their views are wrong, men are right.

Anyone has the right to believe that the rights of trans people are more important than the rights of women (although I believe this is profoundly wrong). What they do not have the right to do is bully, belittle and threaten women who disagree with them; who are trying to protect their hard fought rights.

I despair.

If David Tennant wishes to believe the delusion that a person can change sex, then he is perfectly entitled to and people are entitled to support him.
However, what he is NOT entitled to do is force others to agree to his belief and nor should he insult those who disagree with him.

So Starmer is going to override the referendum result.

As KS pointed out, legal migration has gone through the roof from outside the EU. We clearly need migrants to live and work here, otherwise the ' points based immigration system' wouldn't have increased migration tenfold. EU migrants came here for a few years, worked and went home, were young and didn't bring their families over.

With two MPs killed by extremists in the past eight years, it's something for an influential white man to publicly voice his desire for a black woman politician to 'not exist'.

He comes across as a bit unpleasant and thick and preoccupied with how his kid being trans impacts his image. Had never read about him enabling the flasher or pisstaking deaf people but it tracks.

That leaves a bad taste in my mouth. How about the men shut up for once and listen?

It’s not because she’s a woman, or black, or because she worked her way up through lots of difficult jobs to get to where she is that David Tennant mentioned her. It’s because she says quite a lot of really unpleasant and untruthful things that inflame the debate around human rights (not just trans rights, but race as well).

I agree with David Tennant on this, personally. He was obviously being humorous/tongue-in-cheek when he talked about wanting her to ‘disappear’, obviously, so I don’t think we need to read much into that or that there’s any ‘double-speak’ there.

In fact, I think it’s irrelevant that he happens to be a white man and she happens to be a black woman.

I admire how hard Kemi Badenoch has worked to get to where she is now, but I can’t think of any useful or practical things she has said or done whilst she has been in government.

In fact, she will often say very offensive things and she will claim she has a right to say them because she is from an underrepresented background, as a black woman (just like what Suella Braverman does too).

Both KB and SB also come across as very disingenuous, because they are now equally as privileged as someone like David Tennant, yet they constantly use their backgrounds to claim they have no privilege.

I think this is exactly what David Tennant was calling out, and I’m glad he did.
