David Tennant: women should "shut up"

As a (now ex) David Tennant fan I was so disappointed to hear his speech yesterday. Whilst talking about trans rights he told his audience that he wanted a world where "we wake up and Kemi Badenoch doesn't exist anymore. I don't wish ill of her, I just wish her to shut up."

(There's some devious doublespeak here: if you wish someone didn't exist, you obviously wish them ill).

But more importantly, how dare he tell women to shut up about women's rights. Yet again powerful and privileged men tell women what they are and are not allowed to say. They must shut up whilst men speak. Their views are wrong, men are right.

Anyone has the right to believe that the rights of trans people are more important than the rights of women (although I believe this is profoundly wrong). What they do not have the right to do is bully, belittle and threaten women who disagree with them; who are trying to protect their hard fought rights.

I despair.

What do you think you're proving here? It says she votes with the Conservative government and hardly ever rebels. So if you disagree with Conservative policies you'll disagree with the way she votes and vice versa.
What this discussion is about is a man saying a woman whose politics he disagrees with should 'not exist' and should 'shut up'.

Lots of people on here trying to wade away from the main issue which is that Labour will erode women's rights.

I imagine they are Labour leaning and don't want a light shone on the shit show of a leader and his ministers who think women can have a penis, that it's complicated to say what a woman is and not right to say only women can have a cervix.

Think on, Men allowed and applauded for saying men can become women with access to women's spaces and women threatened/cancelled for saying the opposite.

Be assured every woman who agrees with Kemi was begrudged her existence and told to shut up by a jumped up male actor and some women think he's marvellous.

I'm as GC as they come and as said previously i agree with Badenoch on precisely one issue. I find her views on abortion shocking (women will die if she gets her way) etc etc.

He named a specific woman, and he's taking issue with her policies and speech as a politician, which he finds harmful.

Misrepresenting that and playing identity politics by trying to make it about her gender instead of her words and deeds as a public figure is shameful, and it makes it harder to address actual discrimination against women.

I don't actually have a problem with what he said. There are many Tories I wish didn't exist. Male, female, all colours, creeds and backgrounds. All the ones who have been responsible for the deaths of benefit claimants, the stifling of legitimate peaceful protest, Brexit, Rwanda, the Bibby Stockholm, the shit in our rivers, the massive cuts to council funding - they can all just vanish as far as I'm concerned. Personally I'll settle for them losing their seats, but honestly I wouldn't shed a tear if they all left the country or just popped out of existence.

There are many other politicians I also wish would disappear, but they haven't been running the UK for 14 years.

They won't get that with either of the big two parties.

People need to start looking elsewhere. There are lots of independents standing. There are smaller parties. Support given to them is support not given to the Tories or Labour. And can start reforming the country without the terrifying prospect of being lead by the Reform party.
