Did anyone enjoy Taylor but felt at 3.5 hours it…. dragged a little?

I admit that i’m not her biggest fan and it was a bit of a fluke that i got a ticket to go with friends.

I enjoy her music and think she’s amazing but a dedicated Swiftie… I am not!

I just felt that it could have been at least thirty mins shorter and would have been more enjoyable. Even amongst the hardened Swifties around us, I sensed a little restlessness.

Anyone else agree?

I got the impression from OP that she enjoyed it but just thought it was a little long and the thread was about discussing the concert length.

SanctusInDistress · 24/06/2024 09:00

I do agree with the posters that in a sea of hypersexed vulgar erotic acts she’s at least not swearing and covers up (of sorts). But there are so many other artists doing the same who don’t get this type of cult following. It’s a whipped up frenzy at the moment.

The irony of you thinking that was a valid contribution.
Moving on.

Very dedicated to posting about her for someone that claims to hate her so much… Doth protest too much me thinks

Stop gloating on here and think of what you've just witnessed

😂

Must be the second coming 💀

Swifties do not like any criticism of Taylor Swift, no matter how mild. They’ll somehow manage to twist it.

Having said that, credit where it’s due, it wasn’t Taylor, the billionaire, who helped the fan’s family reunite with their daughter who had sadly passed away due to hear exhaustion at a concert, it was the Swifties. It was only after Swift received criticism, she sent a donation days after. But as soon as she did that, the majority of the web results about criticism from the fan’s family was instead filled with how magnanimous she was inviting the deceased fan’s family to a concert and her “private” donation.

Someone at work was talking about her and asked what my favourite album was and I said I’m not a fan and they proceeded to say things that weren’t nasty, but weren’t acceptable. I have also seen an insane amount of online stuff which is beyond disgusting.

But no, I don’t wander around starting conversations about Taylor Swift just to upset people. I don’t dislike her. Her music isn’t for me, that’s the depth of it. I do take I bridge with her fans. Same as 1D and Bieber fans back in the day. And Selena fans attacking Hayley Bieber and such - none of it is acceptable. Ever. It’s not okay to be unpleasant to another human purely because you have different musical tastes.

And quite frankly, it’s a good thing as if there were even more things then people would have even less chance of getting tickets.

If that’s true, then your work colleague is weird. I know lots of big fans of Taylor, they don’t care if others don’t like her, as long as they’re not being nasty. Most people understand people have different tastes.

Then again, look at the weirdos on mumsnet. They can’t even ‘understaaaaand’ that not everyone like the same weather as them. There’s insults that have to be deleted if anyone dares say they like cooler weather.

It’s not the majority.

Nobody deserves a ticket more than anyone else.

OP got a ticket.
OP went to concert.
OP enjoyed concert but had one criticism.
OP gets abuse from 'real' fans and told folk 'more deserving'.

Cult fans want to ban any opinions other than TS worship, no normal fans or non fans allowed an opinion.

Nope, I’m not a fan of TS or a cult fan or want to ban anything, so fucj that response. Everyone who wants to go to her concerts does deserve equally to go yes.
I answered op with my opinion on their post. I don’t see the point of the post when everyone knows these tickets were in huge demand. What’s the point? It’s like a conversation you might have at the hairdressers.

Most of MN, especially AIBU, is a bit like hairdresser chat though?
(Nothing against hairdressers, they are mostly wonderful people).

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 24/06/2024 09:04

I don’t really see the hype myself.

But then I think of when I was a teenager and how much I wanted to go to see Oasis at Knebworth that I did anything to make it happen.

So I guess it’s just the same for those who really like TS.

Not that was a long day!

We were there last night. Couldn't see anyone flagging and there was enough energy to make Wembley shake with the surprise songs. Only Taylor Swift can pull off a 3 hour show like that.

Lots of artists with significantly more talent have historically done as long or longer sets.

I don’t get all this Taylor Swift stuff, just another disposable pop star who is only as good as her marketing department

Alwaysthesun24 · 24/06/2024 09:06

biscuiteer · 24/06/2024 09:02

The ones who are obsessed and shut down anything that is not TS adoration, even from actual fans. They, and they alone, decide who real fans or who is actually deserving of concert tickets.

And about 5 posts per minute, amazing isn't it, all the hate and skepticism, almost too fast for a human to type even.

You realise you're exhibiting typical TS cult behaviour (and bullying)?
Carry on though, you're exemplifying the point many of us are making.
You even jumped on @Fromthenotorious, an actual fan, because she dared to voice her opinion.

Junerainwindcold · 24/06/2024 09:10

OP I get it. I went to see a band I'd wanted to see so much at the Royal Albert Hall and it was really amazing but it did drag on a bit at the end. Still a great evening.

I don’t think she’s disposable. I often wonder which artists and songs we will still be hearing in 20,30,40 years. I reckon Taylor will be one. And I think Adele will be another. Maybe Harry Styles? Not sure about anyone else. Like, I don’t think Ed Sheeran will stand the test of time, not sure why as I know he’s popular and seems like a lovely person, but I just don’t think he will for some reason.

Having said that, people were mad about One Direction and I haven’t heard one of their songs played on the radio for a long time.

biscuiteer · 24/06/2024 09:11

The post was opening a sort of bland comment chat - not really most of MN in my own experience but I tend to read the more interesting stuff.
Good hairdressers are the unsung angels of this world- I could never do what they do. Maybe my gripe is that people seem a little too quick to criticise what they couldn’t do themselves. Who knows? I don’t really care, it’s sunny, life’s short 🙂

Wow. A Netflix documentary in the works.

@KitKatChunki is not bullying you whatsoever. Simply also pointing out the bizarre fact that you are obsessively posting over someone that you claim to dislike

I'm more critical of her cult fans, I have no issue with normal fans (the ones who accept we all like different things). I find TS mediocre and don't buy into her image but accept that others can have different takes. 😬

EveningSpread · 24/06/2024 09:16

KitKatChunki · 24/06/2024 07:33

Goodness - you get tickets to the gig of the year then slag it off?
Stop gloating on here and think of what you've just witnessed. So many people were desperate to see her and have your experience and you sound thoroughly ungrateful.

It's a pop concert! It's mass market bubblegum music for teenagers, not a life-saving miracle or the Second Coming of Jesus Christ! (Not that I'd be particularly interested in that either!)

You sound like you worship your famous overlords. Other people feel free to have preferences, and don't think pop artists are infallible.

biscuiteer · 24/06/2024 09:17

Super fans are a bit scary. It’s just Taylor’s world domination moment that’s all. I’d still rather be sitting in my pants eating crisps.

I still get flashbacks of the two (!) Springsteen shows my husband dragged me too. I think 4.5 hours long?!! I was losing the will

You mean you took a ticket that others would have died for!!?? 😉

mind you - he did do that freaking Acoustic version of born to run on the 1988 tour. I wanted to storm the stage and Have Serious Words with him (Sheffield, brammal lane). Now THAT was tedious.
