To think that the majority of trans people are neurodivergent

...and I sort of think it's a form of neurodivergence in itself.

By the way I'm trans affirmative.

I don't think I've met a trans person who I thought was neurotypical.

Yes, the Cass review found people with ASD were massively over represented in the population.

Hannah Barnes found that experience of sexual abuse was massively over represented in girls being referred to GIDS.

being same sex attracted is also over represented among girls being referred.

This

@Teacherprebaby i am gay and was on the scene in the 90s. I’ve had all the education I need on this topic, thanks

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queer

@HermioneWeasley it seems to be a contested word but one that many use in a positive sense

And many regard in a negative sense, especially if they had that term thrown at them while being punched, spit on and otherwise abused. Surely the only people who should be able to reclaim that nasty word as their own would be the people it was targeted at. Otherwise it's spicy straights appropriating it. Gay appropriation with a nasty twist.

Do you have to be a specified amount of not straight before you are allowed to identify as not straight? Is it a certain number of same sex people you have to kiss before you qualify?

Am confused, I am quite happy to let people label their sexuality if it helps them

It seems to me that many people are almost desperate to force their way into "queerness". People with fetishes, people who practice non-monogamy, those who identify as "pansexual", and everybody else who either has their own flag or is pushing their way onto the pride flag. To be "queer" is to identify as a little edgy.

No, it’s a disgusting homophobic slur and I’ve reported that post

My colleague introduced herself as queer at our away day last week. No one batted an eyelid. Commonly used in my workplace (charity sector)

HermioneWeasley · 22/06/2024 20:47

@Gruttenberg exactly.

All you mean here is no one said anything.

Gruttenberg · 22/06/2024 20:48

Teacherprebaby · 22/06/2024 20:42

No it's not! Not anymore!

Definition: denoting or relating to a sexual or gender identity that does not correspond to established ideas of sexuality and gender, especially heterosexual norms.

It doesn't mean what it did in the 90s. It's also about the way it's used. Educate yourself before jumping to reporting 🙄

It does to those who were abused by people screaming it at them. Educate yourself.

DuesToTheDirt · 22/06/2024 20:48

I think so too. I think it’s down to not feeling you fit in anywhere, trying to work out who you are and the fact it’s being thrust upon young people too.

This is definitely true of 2 of the 3 trans people I know. The third I haven't known as long, so I can't comment on that one.

HermioneWeasley · 22/06/2024 20:49

@Maternityleavelady I’m sorry your workplace has normalised homophobia 🤷🏽‍♀️

QueenBodicea · 22/06/2024 20:49

Pantaloons99 · 22/06/2024 20:38

@Hinkuy it's because of the word disorder. ASC is being more commonly adopted - condition.

It isn't your fault or anyone's because ASD is the term used on that MERK mental health manual or whatever it's called so that's the official term. I talk with my son who is Autistic and highly intelligent, perceptive and then realised myself, how awful to call this person disordered, because he's highly more capable and intelligent than alot of people out there. We also now just say Autism or ASC if needed. So that's the history on that one 🤷‍♀️😄

Edit - my son himself pointed out how highly offensive it is to him

Edited

That's interesting and makes sense. Although, would that mean that ADHD should become ADHC?

User20056 · 22/06/2024 20:49

I genuinely thought transgender and transsexual was all the same thing. I say trans sexual, I didn't realise this was offensive.

As I understand it, a transsexual is someone who was diagnosed with gender dysphoria and wants to appear as the opposite sex. Seem to be less involved in gender ideology and recognise their biological sex.

A transgender person is literally anyone who says they're something else.

People still go by transsexual, but transgender is more common now.

So a certain group is pushing a change of definition on everyone.

I can't say that I am surprised. They have tried it before.

LindorDoubleChoc · 22/06/2024 20:49

I very strongly think most are old fashioned gay.

Oreoqueen87 · 22/06/2024 20:50

FeckOffNowLads · 22/06/2024 20:17

75% are autistic.

I think sometimes it’s a reflection of the parlous state of CAMHS in this country, my son is autistic and I’m assuming he will have a hard time as a teenager with hormones etc. I know there won’t be support for him, and I know that he will be vulnerable.

What is your source for this data?

I would have guessed charity sector.

Wontletmeusemynormalname · 22/06/2024 20:50

SlipperSliders · 22/06/2024 20:20

OK. What's your point?

I think that any difference in people is picked up on at a young age and that is an easy targeted for bullies and abusers.

I hope you're not ignorant enough to think that being abused causes being trans.

She means by being abused they want to disassociate from their own being, by being another person.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 22/06/2024 20:52

young TM & TW yes I’d agree

late transitioning middle aged men?? Nope very much inhabitants of Malaga airport

Seeing ND girls and young women going for mastectomies and identifying as trans long before they can access any meaningful support for living as ND people in an NT world doesn't make me feel hate. It's fucking distressing.

Yeah this. I've just found out in AuDHD and I hated puberty. I remember hysterically begging my Mum to let me have my uterus removed when I was 13 so didn't have to continue having periods. I was very much a Tom Boy as a kid and remember being really distressed as a mid-teen thinking I was a lesbian. I loved (and still love) wearing men's clothes. I felt so so 'other' and had no way of knowing why. I have no doubt I could have turned towards identifying as transgender had I been going through my teens in 2021 instead of 2001.

Livinginaclock · 22/06/2024 20:52

FrippEnos · 22/06/2024 20:50

Or the Arts...

Pantaloons99 · 22/06/2024 20:52

@QueenBodicea yes good point ref ADHD. I think my sons identity is very much wrapped up in being Autistic so we discuss him as being Autistic not having it. We don't really discuss ADHD in the same way. Although I'd say his life is definitely more ' disordered' by the struggles of ADHD!
Interestingly, my son doesn't mention any concern ref ADHD definition as much

female actors who’ve never dated anyone other than men but describe themselves as NB or queer seem to be a thing

especially if they come from a privileged background and are called Emma

Pantaloons99 · 22/06/2024 20:54

@Otherstories2002 oh dear, that's not going to go down well 🤦‍♀️
