Are people actually insane?

Yesterday at my son's sports day a family brought an bully type dog onto the field in amongst the kids activities. Am I mad in thinking this is just twatish behaviour. Not all kids like dogs and they had it amongst everything, put me totally on edge.

I'm now at my daughters ballet class and sat in the wait room full of babies and toddlers and a dad has brought what I am sure is an XL bully in this room. It's tugging on the lead wanting to get off and is getting increasingly agitated.

What would you do? Are some people total fucking morons or aibu?

Fucking hell! No, you are not being unreasonable. How were the parents allowed to bring the dog to sports day? My local authority bans all dogs from school grounds.

Procrastinates · 22/06/2024 09:34

I find it very hard to believe no one from the school or ballet class have said anything? Confused

Misthios · 22/06/2024 09:34

Not insane.

Just terminally stupid and entitled.

AnneLovesGilbert · 22/06/2024 09:34

Yes they are. Why were they allowed to take a dog to either event? Our school has no dogs, you wouldn’t be able to take one in.

BrutusMcDogface · 22/06/2024 09:34

I would probably email the manager of the dance school re: dog waiting for toddlers to finish ballet. How awful.

Calling · 22/06/2024 09:36

YANBU.

ExhaustedHousewife · 22/06/2024 09:36

Yeah,right.

peopleareinsane · 22/06/2024 09:37

Ok I'm glad it's just not me. I am HORRIFIED. I will email the dance leader. I've never owned a dog so I don't understand this mind set. But for fucks sake.

The mum and the dad are both here at the ballet wait room, surely one of you could have stayed at home with this dog. Twats!

Beefcurtains79 · 22/06/2024 09:37

Why was it allowed on school grounds? They aren’t on mine. Is the ballet school indoors?

35965a · 22/06/2024 09:38

Cunt behaviour

peopleareinsane · 22/06/2024 09:39

@Beefcurtains79 I'm assuming the man got told to leave eventually as it wasn't there at the end races. But what fucking twat even thinks this is a good idea.

Yes ballet school is inside. I'm sitting about 4 metres away from this dog and just a bit frozen.

I think people taking dogs to kids/school activities is wrong....but that means any dog, not just one breed.

Lots of people see other dogs and assume they are XL bully's when really they are staffing, pocket or standard bulies or british bulldogs.

I somehow am relaxed around small dogs. But I'm sure they could cause a nasty bite. But this dog is muscular and huge. If it turned, someone would be dead in a minute.

because it's their furbaby, a member of the family just like granny, soft as butter, a nanny dog, misunderstood, it's the deed not the breed, bad owners not evil dogs, you wouldn't expect granny to wait in the car/outside would you so Fluffy is no different. 🙄

When you have cafes, restaurants, shops and museums allowing people to enter with their animals, this is the natural consequence of that. The thickos who have a large, dangerous animal see absolutely nothing wrong with taking it to the school sports or to pick up a child from a dance class.

Procrastinates · 22/06/2024 09:42

I don't understand why no one has told them to leave? I can't imagine any of the classes I've ever attended just allowing the dog to stay unchallenged? Nor any of the schools just letting it be there?

So does ours, so many parents thought it didn't apply to them it was ridiculous. (They were respectable middle class people with a small fluffy dog and that rule was fr irresponsible people with mongrels and big dogs ....or its ok I'll pick him up)

78gingernuts · 22/06/2024 09:43

Was the dog wearing a muzzle?

All leaders and teachers are in classes. Plus it's held in a working men's type club so not sure if dogs may be allowed in here. BUT DONT BRING IT TO A KIDS EVENT FULL OF BABIES AND TODDLERS! Fucks sake!

Have you met the kind of people who own these animals?

You politely say "excuse me, please could you wait outside with the dog" and you get a mouthful of sweary abuse. People are not prepared to get into confrontation with a person who has a big, scary animal with them. I wouldn't.

peopleareinsane · 22/06/2024 09:45

@Misthios this is exactly how I feel. I feel scared.

Yes I've met these people I'm also a teacher well used to being sworn at by entitled parents it wouldn't stop me telling them to leave.

Misthios · 22/06/2024 09:47

I hear you @peopleareinsane and with good reason. I think all you can do is ask the organiser of the class to send out a standard email to all about etiquette when collecting or dropping off - considerate parking, keep noise to a minimum, no littering and leave your unmuzzled chavbeast in the house.

chocolatemilky · 22/06/2024 09:47

I go to great lengths to avoid these kind of dogs but still had a really frightening experience with a bully breed who was allowed off lead to run at me and my baby. I was genuinely terrified. I completely agree with the poster upthread who said that no one will say anything to these types of owners - I certainly didn’t argue with the man with the aforementioned dog, I just ran away! I’d be very cross in your shoes OP and definitely letting both the school and ballet school know.

Bahhhh! Yes! I just can't believe twice in two days. If you have a dog please don't bring it to events that are specially for kids. Lots of people feel scared.
