Are people actually insane?

Yesterday at my son's sports day a family brought an bully type dog onto the field in amongst the kids activities. Am I mad in thinking this is just twatish behaviour. Not all kids like dogs and they had it amongst everything, put me totally on edge.

I'm now at my daughters ballet class and sat in the wait room full of babies and toddlers and a dad has brought what I am sure is an XL bully in this room. It's tugging on the lead wanting to get off and is getting increasingly agitated.

What would you do? Are some people total fucking morons or aibu?

YOU ARE NOT GOING TO FUCKING BELIVE THIS! ANOTHER CUNT HAS BROUGHT ANOTHER DOG INTO THE GATED PLAY PARK!

the lessons have finished and there is a small swing are and slide that have a gate on it. These two cunt dads are now allowing these dogs to fight each other. I've just grabbed my daughter and left and will email now. I am raging

They shouldn’t be in a gated park if it says no dogs but I highly doubt the dogs are ‘fighting’ each other and the owners are doing nothing. They are probably playing together.

Prettypengu · 22/06/2024 10:28

Is the school field for sports day actually owned by the school or a field they use?

My daughters primary schools sports day is in the local rec which the school don’t own and is where everyone walks their dogs so no way to avoid dogs on sports day.

Does the hall where the ballet class is allow dogs ? If so then they can bring the dog, if not then it shouldn’t be in there.

Both my sons and daughters school have a school dog though that’s in reception (both are labs).

Is this in the UK?

Yes we are in a 'nice' town not too far away from where that poor baby was killed last week.

Fucking hell! No, you are not being unreasonable. How were the parents allowed to bring the dog to sports day? My local authority bans all dogs from school grounds.

My DC's sports day is held on a public park. Lots of city schools don't have their own playing fields. There are increasing numbers of badly behaved big dogs though. V annoying and OP not being unreasonable

peopleareinsane · 22/06/2024 10:33

@Prettypengu when I say fighting, the first dog was pinning the other dog to the ground and growling so intensely the men seemed concerned so pulled them off each other. I just freaked out and left immediately. I wanted to get in my car.

Over Easter I was in a local park to my mum’s house (a housing estate). We were all in the playground surrounded by a fence. A lady walked up with a young XL. She didn’t enter the park. The dog was not on a lead. She was on her phone and the dog was wondering almost pacing outside the fenced area. I called my husband who had gone back to my mum’s to use the toilet and said loudly there is an XL bully off lead here, don’t want down. The lady obviously heard me and walked over to the dog put it on its lead and she walked off. We waiting behind the fence , my husband did come down and then called us out once he could see the dog was gone.

we were all petrified. My brother in law how is a GP (he was back at the house and we had taken his kids out) said he hates parks as he has had so many kids in with complications from dog bites.

Mammma91 · 22/06/2024 10:34

YANBU. Not the place to take your dog, some kids are proper terrified of dogs for various reasons. Irresponsible dog owners.

aLFIESMA · 22/06/2024 10:35

In my experience (dog owner so walking every day) I almost never come across these big bully breeds on river, meadow or woodland walks. Only ever see them in town.
To be clear the walks I am referring to surround my town and are accessible at many points. One of the reasons my little dog gave me for wanting to move here!

peopleareinsane · 22/06/2024 09:44

No it wasn't.

If it's an XL and isn't muzzled call the police

Dentistlakes · 22/06/2024 10:36

The whole dog thing has got totally out of hand. Dogs don’t belong in shops, cafes, restaurants, play parks, school grounds or changing rooms. They are animals and don’t want to be in these environments, they find them stressful. These owners are not putting their pets before their own selfish desire to make them fit into their lives. I saw a poor dog the other day in John Lewis on a busy Saturday, bloody terrified in amongst the feet of lots of shoppers. It’s not fair on the animal.

LakeTiticaca · 22/06/2024 10:36

Why didn't the organisers of sports day tell them to leave?
Why didn't the ballet teacher tell them to leave?

WhatsUpNowThen · 22/06/2024 10:37

Are people actually insane?.........to believe this made up nonsense

We see this type of behaviour every day. Why would we think it's made up?
People bring dogs into my local gated playpark which is clearly signposted
NO DOGS. Sometimes nobody dare say anything.

Ohnobackagain · 22/06/2024 10:39

@peopleareinsane any kid allergic to dogs in the ballet class? Not fair on them even if it’s placid.

I think they must have by the end, but it was there for a good while before hand.

I've just messaged the ballet leader about what happened this morning. I will let you know their reply

Abhannmor · 22/06/2024 10:44

Taser. One day everyone will have one unless the authorities do their job. This crap is going on since the early 90s.

StitchVic · 22/06/2024 10:45

YANBU. I’m baffled by the recent trend (which seems to be the last few years, possibly since lots of new dogs were acquired during the pandemic) of people taking their dogs everywhere. When I was a kid (1980s) a few friends had dogs. Yes they were very loved and part of the family, but they only got taken out if it was for a walk or to a dog appropriate place. I’m genuinely confused to why people feel they need to take their dogs to restaurants, museums, shopping centres (sports days, ballet!) etc. Can’t they leave them at home for just a few hours? Can you imagine if everyone acted so entitled with their pets? Might take the Guinea pigs with me down to Tescos next week in case they feel they’re missing out 🤣

SlashBeef · 22/06/2024 10:46

So, not one but two unmuzzled XL bullies indoors and then fighting in a playground and nobody thought to phone the police or anything. Golden.

ChrisPPancake · 22/06/2024 10:46

Nvm. Seen your update. Can/should report the XL bully that's not muzzled though.

BlackFriYay · 22/06/2024 10:46

Not insane, that's giving them too much credit, they're just dickheads.

I did a 180 from entering the children's play area with my DC last week because a parent had one of the vile creatures in there running loose.

I detest those dogs and the dullards they're attached to.

Ours would actually love it as everyone wants to interact with them and they love people. We are that family that have a dog pram if needed to get them off the floor.

OP the XL bully guidelines now include many breeds with minimal bite history which seems to have scared the public into believing every dog is bad. They aren't!!!!

Personally I think we need mandatory genetics and to sterilise all the ones from the Killer Kimbo line instead of banning harmless dogs because people can't tell the difference.

It took four bullets to kill one of these beasts recently. I don't think a laser will cut it.
