Are people actually insane?

Yesterday at my son's sports day a family brought an bully type dog onto the field in amongst the kids activities. Am I mad in thinking this is just twatish behaviour. Not all kids like dogs and they had it amongst everything, put me totally on edge.

I'm now at my daughters ballet class and sat in the wait room full of babies and toddlers and a dad has brought what I am sure is an XL bully in this room. It's tugging on the lead wanting to get off and is getting increasingly agitated.

What would you do? Are some people total fucking morons or aibu?

It may not have been an XL bully then.
Still ridiculous to bring any dog to such an event.

But if you are confident it was a bully it can be reported to the police.

I'm not a dog person so don't know how to tell between breeds but it was a very big muscular dog that looked like the ones I've seen on the news. So probably slightly different if it wasn't muzzled but a fucking scary looking dog.

Like dog, like owner. Other dogs are fine. I like huskies.

swayingpalmtree · 22/06/2024 09:52

No, thats completely out of order. I have a cavapoo and wouldnt do that and she looks like a literal teddy bear (and is as harmless as one). I love my dog but I respect that not everyone likes dogs and they dont deserve to go everywhere FGS.

Make a complaint.

AmiShitsaline · 22/06/2024 09:55

Doesn’t matter if it’s not an actual XL, there are lots of breeds that can cause serious damage, the baby that was sadly killed this week was an Alsatian type breed. Hope someone can get the message across!

because it's their furbaby, a member of the family just like granny, soft as butter, a nanny dog, misunderstood, it's the deed not the breed, bad owners not evil dogs, you wouldn't expect granny to wait in the car/outside would you so Fluffy is no different. 🙄

When you have cafes, restaurants, shops and museums allowing people to enter with their animals, this is the natural consequence of that. The thickos who have a large, dangerous animal see absolutely nothing wrong with taking it to the school sports or to pick up a child from a dance class.

I agree, if one is cheering on dog friendly places, then that is all dogs, not just dogs deemed acceptable.

The school aside, but if dogs are allowed in the WMC then that is all dogs.

I wouldn't go as far as calling ones with particular breeds thickos though. If a place allows dogs, it allows all dogs.

Huskies are lovely looking dogs but have also killed a baby a couple of years ago.

GingerGurl · 22/06/2024 10:02

Entitled prick. They just love showing off and have these dogs cos they didn't get any attention as a child.

MrsR87 · 22/06/2024 10:03

I am an ex teacher and now run children’s activity classes and I would have asked the parent with the dog to leave/ wait outside no matter what the breed of dog. Some children are terrified of dogs and some children have no idea how to act around dogs which could cause stress and/or danger for both!

peopleareinsane · 22/06/2024 10:04

YOU ARE NOT GOING TO FUCKING BELIVE THIS! ANOTHER CUNT HAS BROUGHT ANOTHER DOG INTO THE GATED PLAY PARK!

the lessons have finished and there is a small swing are and slide that have a gate on it. These two cunt dads are now allowing these dogs to fight each other. I've just grabbed my daughter and left and will email now. I am raging

Exactly. It really doesn't matter what type of dog it is I just genuinely cannot fathom no one asking them to leave the minute they became aware of the dog.

I'm horrified.
If it's safe can you get a photo?
I'd call the police.

TomatoSandwiches · 22/06/2024 10:07

There are lots of stupid, entitled, anti social people around unfortunately.
I have no problem pointing out their shitty behaviour and often get a mouthful of abuse back but 9/10 times they leave or stop doing whatever it is.

People need to collectively address individuals like this but no one wants to take that risk, which I understand but also find frustrating, that's how they get away with their nonsense.

Misthios · 22/06/2024 10:08

Thinking back to when DD did ballet in a scout hall, the classes went on in the main room and parents waited outside if it was dry, in a sort of hallway when it was wet. The teacher could not see who was waiting until the class ended and she opened the doors. In that sort of situation it would be down to another parent with no "authority" to tackle the parent who felt it was appropriate to bring a dog and not everyone wants to put themselves in that position.

I think we can all agree that dog owners have got 100 times more entitled over the last 5 years.

Iamtarticus · 22/06/2024 10:09

Is this in the UK?

Pluto46 · 22/06/2024 10:09

apparently

Excellent post, sums it up perfectly.

fannyschmeller · 22/06/2024 10:10

They are just twats. They want to be challenged and called out so they can repeat the same old 'owners not breeds' twaddle over and over again.
Someone on my local Facebook page asked if it was acceptable to take an XL bully on a bus recently. Obviously the comments were full of 'of course it is hun they can't stop you' and anyone who dared to offer a different perspective was insulted, ridiculed and called ignorant. Let's be honest, it's a certain type of person who generally owns these dogs and they are usually confrontational, selfish chavs.

Cattery · 22/06/2024 10:10

Some people are just moronic cunts and no one’s telling THEM what to do.

IAlwaysTellTheTruthEvenWhenILie · 22/06/2024 10:11

Ugh I would've left. I don't trust those dogs.

soupfiend · 22/06/2024 10:13

Misthios · 22/06/2024 09:44

Have you met the kind of people who own these animals?

You politely say "excuse me, please could you wait outside with the dog" and you get a mouthful of sweary abuse. People are not prepared to get into confrontation with a person who has a big, scary animal with them. I wouldn't.

This

A mixture of aggressive entitlement with people being scared (quite understandably) to challenge.

No doubt someone will claim its their 'support dog' and put some stupid halter on it with 'support dog' written on it, so thta they can drag it round the shops all day without challenge

peopleareinsane · 22/06/2024 09:41

I somehow am relaxed around small dogs. But I'm sure they could cause a nasty bite. But this dog is muscular and huge. If it turned, someone would be dead in a minute.

YOU are but my 9 yr old would still be on my lap / outside / hysterical if a small dog came at him. You're point was "not all kids like dogs" so that applies to all.

I don't want an XL bully there, a lab, a cockapoo. Nothing. And school would absolutely have been on this immediately

Choochoo21 · 22/06/2024 10:14

I love dogs and I have my own.
I also love XL bullies.

But dogs do not need to attend these sorts of events.

There is nothing in it for these dogs and they would rather have an actual walk and socialise than sit and watch a bunch of kids.

I’m shocked that no leader of these groups told them that no dogs were allowed.

I assume they weren’t XL bullies but that’s irrelevant, even a poodle should be banned from these sorts of events.

CharlotteBog · 22/06/2024 10:16

Dogs do not belong at school sports day or ballet class (apart from assistance dogs obviously).

Why is the person in charge not asking them to leave?

This is part of the problem though, many entitled dog owners will just say their animal is a support dog and people are too afraid of being discriminatory that they will not challenge that.
