Are people actually insane?

Yesterday at my son's sports day a family brought an bully type dog onto the field in amongst the kids activities. Am I mad in thinking this is just twatish behaviour. Not all kids like dogs and they had it amongst everything, put me totally on edge.

I'm now at my daughters ballet class and sat in the wait room full of babies and toddlers and a dad has brought what I am sure is an XL bully in this room. It's tugging on the lead wanting to get off and is getting increasingly agitated.

What would you do? Are some people total fucking morons or aibu?

@Prettypengu when I say fighting, the first dog was pinning the other dog to the ground and growling so intensely the men seemed concerned so pulled them off each other. I just freaked out and left immediately. I wanted to get in my car.

You originally said the men were allowing the dogs to fight each other.

Now you say they were concerned and so pulled them off each other.

So which one is it?

peopleareinsane · 22/06/2024 10:52

SlashBeef · 22/06/2024 10:46

So, not one but two unmuzzled XL bullies indoors and then fighting in a playground and nobody thought to phone the police or anything. Golden.

I said bully type dogs. I have no idea if they are or not. All I know is they are fucking terrifying muscular dogs.

Ours would actually love it as everyone wants to interact with them and they love people. We are that family that have a dog pram if needed to get them off the floor

Not everyone wants to interact with them. A large percentage of people couldn't care less about your animal, a smaller percentage actively dislikes animals or is scared of animal. Lots of people will be thinking "look at that CF with her animal in a ridiculous pram - so entitled that she thinks the rules don't apply to her".

Why would it matter if a dog is on the floor or in a silly pram? If it's not an appropriate place to have a dog then it's not an appropriate place to have a dog on the floor, in a pram, carried...

Jeezo.

Longtimelurkerfinallyposts · 22/06/2024 10:53

You could make your own sign saying 'Please leave your dog outside' or 'No Dogs - children play here' or whatever, and put it up in these places.

Then if someone turns up with a dog in future, it would be much easier to confront them - you could just point at the sign and give them the impression that it's been put up by the relevant authority (the working men's club/ ballet school/ whoever owns the playpark area etc).

peopleareinsane · 22/06/2024 10:54

@Choochoo21 the dogs pounced on each other, growling and the big one pinned the other one down and wouldn't get off. The men suddenly went from chatting to concerned and tried pulling them off each other but it wasn't easy. At that point I got the fuck out.

Yes we are in a 'nice' town not too far away from where that poor baby was killed last week.

Just so you are aware, the baby killed last week wasn’t killed by an XL bully or any bull breed dog.

No dog should be coming to these events and not just XL bullies.

Ok so they weren’t allowing the dogs to fight each other, as you previously said.

So you witnessed 2 bully type dogs fighting in a gated children's play park. Did you call the police?

peopleareinsane · 22/06/2024 11:00

@Choochoo21 they were allowing the dogs to grapple with each other aggressively so yes they were allowing them to fight. It didn't seem like dogs having a lovely wrestle and play. It was nasty aggression from both dogs . It then escalated to a very intense growl at which point they stepped in.

Well you know, we are a nation of dog lovers...

I hear you @peopleareinsane and with good reason. I think all you can do is ask the organiser of the class to send out a standard email to all about etiquette when collecting or dropping off - considerate parking, keep noise to a minimum, no littering and leave your unmuzzled chavbeast in the house.

Chavbeast! Love it! Says it all. 😂

Setyoufree · 22/06/2024 11:03

Was it actually an XL bully though? Because I am always getting drama off people about my "XL bully" which is actually a Rhodesian Ridgeback and looks nothing at all like a bully.... Also the constant assumption that it's a dangerous dog. Yes she's big, no she's not aggressive. Obviously I wouldn't take her into the school grounds though

Chipsahoy · 22/06/2024 11:03

People treat their dogs as if they’re people. I live on a farm. Dogs are animals not people, they live in the barns not the house. Apparently that’s cruel. They are dogs!
They are trained very well. I currently have a 9month pup. She’s massive. Sweetest thing ever and very much loved but she’s still an animal. Dogs don’t belong in cafes or places that other dog owners believe they should. We can love our animals without treating them like humans. We need to respect them as animals not expect them to react like a human. The entitlement of some dog owners is ridiculous. It’s as if the dogs matter more than children.

curious79 · 22/06/2024 11:05

This is dog owners generally. Not everyone likes dogs or wants them around.

Setyoufree · 22/06/2024 11:05

What? So if a cafe says dogs welcome, and my well behaved dog lies under my table and minds her own business, you say I should have just left her at home?? 🤨

OriginalUsername2 · 22/06/2024 11:05

Misthios · 22/06/2024 09:44

Have you met the kind of people who own these animals?

You politely say "excuse me, please could you wait outside with the dog" and you get a mouthful of sweary abuse. People are not prepared to get into confrontation with a person who has a big, scary animal with them. I wouldn't.

Exactly. I’d be scared the dog would bite my head off just for asking tbh

Unfortunately this is the problem with media hysteria. People don't know what breed the dogs are but have decided it must be one of the types in the headlines because they think it looks a bit like it. That would not be the criteria used to determine a bull type or XL. For all we know they could be not remotely bully type dogs.

Unfortunately we don't all live on farms and not all dog owners have a barn to put their dog in. It's a real bind sometimes when i have visitors and can't put the dog in the spare cattle shed but there you go, we have to make do...

If your dog is allowed, then so is every other dog. How is it determined your dog is well-behaved and others aren't?

If you allow dogs, you allow all dogs. You can't pick and choose.

But you've never had a dog before. How do you know it was aggressive and they weren't just sizing eachother up roughly? Have you actually seen what a bitch does to it's pups to teach them?

peopleareinsane · 22/06/2024 11:16

I feel that dogs should have a license like a driving license. Have a theory test.

You enter a room full of children and babies. Your dog becomes overstimulated and starts pulling on the lead, Do you....

A) leave the room immediately as it's not the right environment for a dog to be in
B) stay and aggressively tug the lead so the dog gets even more pissed off and angry
C) let it off the lead so it can play with kids

Ok I'm glad it's just not me. I am HORRIFIED. I will email the dance leader. I've never owned a dog so I don't understand this mind set. But for fucks sake.

The mum and the dad are both here at the ballet wait room, surely one of you could have stayed at home with this dog. Twats!

I have had quite a few dogs and don't understand the mindset either.

peopleareinsane · 22/06/2024 11:18

@TheTartfulLodger the reaction from their owners seemed to send a signal that what they were doing was not acceptable.

@peopleareinsane

So you didn't call the police? You keep talking about irresponsible dog owners, but you say you witnessed a dog fight in a children's play area and you just walked away? Confused
