How often do you shave your armpits?

Just out of curiosity since I don't know if everyone does it as often as I do.

OP posts:
Motherrr · 21/06/2024 23:07

Used to do it other day (pre kids etc)
Now... whenever - up to a couple of weeks??

OperationDinnerout · 21/06/2024 23:20

twice a month, helps them to stop being smelly

Genuine ( not arsey) question to the non shavers ( or retired shavers): how do your DH’s react?

Depending on my mood/the season could be three times a week could be twice a month either way by OH wouldn't react in any way and doubt it alters his attraction. Doesn't seem to. Other men may differ of course

southbiscay · 21/06/2024 23:39

Never. And I swim frequently so wear a swimsuit. If a partner had a problem with it I'd have a problem with the partner.

S0livagant · 21/06/2024 21:51

Armpits are a hollow though, don't you have to pull them taut to find the hairs and shave?

I don't do it "regularly", just as and when it starts to irritate me. But by sticking my arm straight up above my head, it's fine. Not half a job, just done.

Maybe yours are more of a hollow than mine. But we are all built differently, as PP said.

BicyclesAreFun · 22/06/2024 07:34

I don't shave. IMO adult armpits look a bit weird without some hair. My armpit hair is soft whereas stubbly regrowth is horrible.

Zanatdy · 22/06/2024 07:35

In summer 2-3 times a week. In winter, not as often!!

fieldsofbutterflies · 22/06/2024 07:36

Everyday.

KimberleyClark · 22/06/2024 07:41

Never unless going swimming or wearing something sleeveless. I’m post menopausal and it just doesn’t grow like it used to.

There's nothing to react to in a sense, since armpit hair has been a feature of my body since puberty and I met my DH when I was an adult. It'd be like asking me how I react (now) to the scars my DH has from teenage cycling mishaps, or the colour of his eyes, or his height, or other totally normal things.

Yes that makes sense.

I’ve always shaved mine, though less frequently now, which actually seems to lessen the hair growth and soften the stubble.

It’s just an interesting sort of topic because we somehow start doing these things, ( well some of us do), and there’s often no real background reason except unthinking compliance. I’m particularly thinking of studies that show men prefer the smell of women without perfume- yet look at the shelves and shelves of it in larger Boots stores, Harrod’s perfume hall etc.

I guess we maybe do it for our own benefit- which I suppose isn’t any less worthwhile if it increases a sense of well-being. But the numbers on here of women not shaving armpits just got me wondering …

ramabanana · 22/06/2024 07:59

It was daily before using IPL and now barely ever, dark hair and pale skin so it worked particularly well

Shaving it before wasn’t much of a pain since it’s such a small area but it’s nice to not always have the dark stubble hanging around

CableCar · 22/06/2024 08:02

Daily before I started using my epilator on them. Now I epilate once a month to pluck the flyaways. I've epilated for 20 years so hair growth now is minimal x

hopeishere · 22/06/2024 08:06

I had mine lasered. Best money I spent.

Maybe give it a go? What's the worst that can happen?

I don't wear perfume either. Neither I nor DH go in much for adding extra pongs to ourselves, we just clean ourselves regularly and as most products are fragranced, that lingers to some degree. He smells of him plus shower gel / skincare products and I find that generally a nice smell, probably because he's a lovely chap and it's the smell I associate with him; and I smell of me plus shower gel / skincare, and DH seems to be fine and dandy with that.

Alwaystired23 · 21/06/2024 20:21

I used to do it daily. Now, about once a week!

Same.

NervousNelly84 · 22/06/2024 08:23

When I feel like it. So not very often!

Gatecrashermum · 22/06/2024 08:25

I epilate about 4 times a year

MyPinkOtter · 22/06/2024 08:27

I epilated them a lot in my teens and early 20s and now I have virtually no armpit hair. I do a quick razor swipe in the shower maybe once every six months to catch the few stragglers that occasionally show up, but that’s it.

protectoroftherealm · 22/06/2024 08:28

"For those of you who shave everyday, how do you do this without getting shaving rashes / sore?

I shave my armpits 2-3 times a week. Legs and pubic hair all come off once, maybe twice a week. I'd shave everyday if I could to make sure I didn't have any hair in those areas as I can't stand it, but it makes me sore! Any tips?

(I will be getting laser when funds allow)"

@nupnup

I'll be getting laser too when I can afford it!

I don't get rashes or soreness - I moisturise twice a day and exfoliate with gloves every other day. And I always use a new razor every couple of days. The only time iv ever got a bit of a rash is when my razor is a bit too blunt!

Cuwins · 22/06/2024 08:28

@S0livagant I just checked how I do it and I same as @IpsyUpsyDaisyDoos: arm right above my head and I can see fine. Thinking about it though I have seen people with much more obvious 'hollow' armpits so maybe it's just a case of different shapes.

Panda89 · 22/06/2024 08:33

Once a month or so? I used an IPL on them a couple of years ago so they hardly grow now.

Genuine ( not arsey) question to the non shavers ( or retired shavers): how do your DH’s react?

He's never commented so I think he neither notices nor cares that I only shave a couple of times a year. He's quite smug that his legs are far less hairy than mine though.

AngryBird6122 · 22/06/2024 08:41

Due to Philips Lumea barely ever. Once every 2 months?

Loafbeginsat60 · 22/06/2024 08:42

Every day. My daughter is 11 and has very dark coarse hair under her arms so I help her do hers about once a week.

Dh shaves his too as he feels cleaner with no hair there.
