People going to multiple Eras dates are selfish

I'm not a Swiftie but DD is a fan and I signed up for the waiting list last year. No code, everything sold out so I assumed I wasn't going to get tickets. Yesterday, I got an email from Ticketmaster with a code for Wembley this weekend and managed to get 4 tickets. DD and friends are delighted.

Other friends are still desperately hoping for tickets, either this weekend or in August. I've seen lots of posts on MN and elsewhere by people in the same boat. Then I've seen other posters saying they, or someone they know, have been/are going multiple times. I just don't understand this mentality. You've seen it once, you know there are thousands of people hoping for that opportunity and not everyone will be able to go because there aren't enough tickets for everyone who wants one. Why take more than your fair share?

YABU - them's the breaks.
YANBU - it's selfish.

Back in the day I used to follow a lot of bands and do their whole UK tour. Lots were sell out tours. Never once had anyone tell me that it was unfair and it never once crossed my mind that it was either! I bought tickets the same as everyone else. I even used touts if I had to. They weren't £100+ a ticket back then mind you, I couldn't do it these days. YABU.

SprigatitoYouAndIKnow · 22/06/2024 07:40

Touts and people who buy just for resale profit are selfish and should be banned. I have no issue with people who love any music going to see it multiple times. I have seen bands I like on different ocassions and get something different from it every time.

Labour should nationalise Taylor Swift. Starmer is missing a trick.

😂
I’m ambivalent about the selling and multiple going. I feel really invested. My DD’s are mid/ late 20’s and she’s been around since they were v early teens. When Britney was problematic she was positive. About body positivity, relationships, gender roles, ownership of her work, everything. Via presale codes I got and DD1 paid for and went in Stockholm with friends. I was a bit salty that she didn’t include me so then we went together paying £400 each in Murrayfield via StubHub for the best spot in the ground. DD2 is going with friends of DD1 who have a drop out in August and I’ve just this morning bought via a code 2 restricted view but “courtside” tickets for £58 each tomorrow. I briefly considered buying my allocation of four and reselling. I’ll take a colleague for free if I can’t persuade my 80 yo dad who also loves her, and I calculate that means “friendsandfamilyrandoname”have seen her 8 times, just over £100/ ticket.

Hearthfloor · 22/06/2024 07:44

I’m not a Taylor Swift fan but I can say from the reviews of people who have been it doesn’t sound worth going once never mind twice or more. There are multiple reports that the £660 ticket holders had obstructed views by tents and scaffolding and could barely see Taylor. Others have said they were surrounded by crying fans singing out of tune so they could barely hear her.
I’m not impressed by her as a person - for example she walked into a restaurant with her boyfriend- everyone was told Taylor is paying for all your meals (hurray for Taylor! They say) but you all have to eff off and leave right now so Taylor and her boyfriend can have the place to themselves.

TheWoofers · 21/06/2024 20:53

I’ve seen her once on this tour already and I’m going twice more with different people. I’m not even a huge fan. If people think it’s selfish, that’s ok.

Sorry, but that does seem a bit selfish. Why even go several times if you’re not a huge fan?

Labour should nationalise Taylor Swift. Starmer is missing a trick.

They should give out free tickets to the voters, would definitely win the general election.

NeedWineNow · 22/06/2024 07:54

Oh dear god I think I’ve heard it all now. People are selfish because they want to go to a concert more than once?? People shouldn’t come from the States because they could have seen TS in their own country?

Get over yourselves and let people enjoy what they’ve paid for.

paasll · 22/06/2024 08:03

If people go multiple times, they must be mega fans. I don’t think it’s selfish at all. Tickets are offered, they bought them.

it’s not an “opportunity” to see a concert. It’s a fun night out. There are other fun things to do.

Pottedpalm · 22/06/2024 08:29

Swollenandgrouchy · 21/06/2024 19:41

I’d pay to not have to go.

😂

Horseebooks · 22/06/2024 09:03

It’s cos they’re better fans than you, more dedicated, they probably all like Taylor more than you and Taylor knows that and thanks them all individually by name every night before she goes to bed

whenemmafallsinlove · 22/06/2024 09:07

I went to the Edinburgh show. I'd go again in a heartbeat if I could. It's fabulous and a lovely experience. And tbh if life was a bit more like the eras tour, positive, sparkly and safe! We'd all be better off.

You really think this is an issue?
So much 'unfairness' on so many levels in this world, and you think going to see an over-rated, carbon footprint making, singer more than once is selfish?
I went to see Dire Straights twice - same week, same venue. Back in the 80s
But I justify it because I only got to see David Essex once

If all those fans who'd been already thought, "Actually, I've had a turn, I'll leave those tix for someone still waiting," then it wouldn't be a risk, would it? Being selfish because you're worried about someone else being as selfish as you is part of the problem.

Is your world view that we should have rainbows ever day, fairies to help with the washing, 2.4 perfect children, and a whole village raising a barn?

beckybarefoot · 22/06/2024 09:16

seriously? its a gig! i do not doubt she will do many many more. it is what it is.

Gingerdancedbackwards · 22/06/2024 09:16

BlowDryRat · 21/06/2024 20:34

Ok, a better comparison would be sitting down to Sunday lunch at the ILs. ExBIL promptly piled 11 of the 12 available Yorkshire puddings onto his plate, leaving 1 to go between everyone else at the table. Nobody died for lack of a Yorkshire pudding, but BIL was still incredibly selfish.

Not a comparison at all

Westfacing · 22/06/2024 09:17

Maybe they applied to multiple venues at the beginning and their numbers came up more than once - the luck of the draw.

London 2012 Olympics - a very wealthy person I know applied for loads of events on the off-chance that something would come up, and could afford it if loads were successful.

The lucky git got the Men's 100 metres final - natch!

feellikeanalien · 21/06/2024 21:29

It's nothing new. I went to see the Osmonds in the 70s. They were doing an early and late concert on the day I saw them. The friend I went with had tickets for both performances. Superfans have always done this.

Mind you I think the Osmonds tickets were a bit cheaper!😁

And you got 7 of them!!

Waystation · 22/06/2024 10:14

Pibrea · 21/06/2024 20:56

I’m with you, I know a woman in her 30s who’s been twice with the same group of friends. They did the whole friendship bracelet thing as well, bit weird in my opinion.

Not weird at all my DD early 30’s has been a fan since Taylor was country - so since her teens - she has/had tickets to six concerts 2 x Edinburgh 2x Wembley 1 x Cardiff and 1 in Warsaw - I will be going to Wembley (tomorrow) and I’m very much older - since when was it weird to enjoy something just because you are over 30…. (Not addressing the “being selfish” as I just think most fans would do multiple if they could get the tickets)

See also: people dragging along their (male) partners who couldn't give a toss
Americans flying over when they had multiple chances to see the tour in their own country

The number of times I've heard "I'm not really that much of a fan but my pal had tickets..."

The whole codes and waiting lists wouldn't have been bloody needed if people didn't just buy tickets for the sake of it!

TimeForTeaAndG · 22/06/2024 10:21

I want to know how people managed to get codes for multiple venues when some folk couldn't even get 1 code!

andyourpointiswhat · 22/06/2024 10:32

I think it is selfish to buy more than you need of anything that there is a shortage of and lots of other people want “just because you can” but clearly lots of people disagree.

OonaStubbs · 23/06/2024 00:42

I don't understand all the fuss about Taylor Swift. She's a good singer but why are people going crazy and spending mega-money to go and see her?

But nobody ‘needs’ Taylor swift tickets….they ‘want’ them…..so it’s absolutely fine…. Nobody is taking food from babies mouths 🙄

ll09sm · 23/06/2024 02:25

Nice? You want people to to not go to multiple concerts because you think it’s not nice?

This place is batshit crazy.
