People going to multiple Eras dates are selfish

I'm not a Swiftie but DD is a fan and I signed up for the waiting list last year. No code, everything sold out so I assumed I wasn't going to get tickets. Yesterday, I got an email from Ticketmaster with a code for Wembley this weekend and managed to get 4 tickets. DD and friends are delighted.

Other friends are still desperately hoping for tickets, either this weekend or in August. I've seen lots of posts on MN and elsewhere by people in the same boat. Then I've seen other posters saying they, or someone they know, have been/are going multiple times. I just don't understand this mentality. You've seen it once, you know there are thousands of people hoping for that opportunity and not everyone will be able to go because there aren't enough tickets for everyone who wants one. Why take more than your fair share?

YABU - them's the breaks.
YANBU - it's selfish.

Get over it. It is a gig. Lovely to attend, you’ll have fun, but otherwise unless you are are a 12 year old super fan I don’t know what the issue is

Nigellasstickytoffeepudding · 21/06/2024 19:37

Because they can afford to and they want to.

Taylor will tour again.

Imnotsu · 21/06/2024 19:38

Because it's not based on fairness? They want to go.... So they're going

Aglassaday · 21/06/2024 19:38

Agree I think it’s greedy and selfish

Sillystrumpet · 21/06/2024 19:39

Cmon now, if they want to go and have rhe money and can get a ticket they can, it’s not food rations it’s a flipping concert. Chill

Sillystrumpet · 21/06/2024 19:39

Aglassaday · 21/06/2024 19:38

Agree I think it’s greedy and selfish

😂

IncognitoUsername · 21/06/2024 19:39

People could go to every gig if they had the money. Nothing to do with being ‘fair’.

mitogoshi · 21/06/2024 19:40

If you are willing to pay reseller rates it's up to you. We got two codes but only bought 4 tickets out of fairness (adult dsd got her own code)

Tricho · 21/06/2024 19:40

Who's to say what someone's "fair share" is?

A net worth of a billion is arguably way above someone's "fair share" of money given there are those that can't afford to eat?

But that's OK.

BlowDryRat · 21/06/2024 19:41

Yes, they clearly can but I don't think it's particularly nice that they do. It's like the weeks before lockdown when some people were running round the supermarket panic-buying 10 multipacks of loo roll.

Life’s not fair, it’s not something I could get riled up about. Sounds like it’s pretty much a lottery to get tickets so if some people got more lucky than others, good for them.

Marmose · 21/06/2024 19:41

What about people who have season tickets at Premier League clubs? They go every week and nobody else gets a chance.

boombang · 21/06/2024 19:41

people can do what they like - no one rations concert tickets! Honestly its just a gig - everyone will go to some they like and some they don't enjoy, over their life time, and many time will be unable to get tickets to something they think might be fun - so they do something else that night instead - TV and pizza, or whatever.

Swollenandgrouchy · 21/06/2024 19:41

I’d pay to not have to go.

OrwellianTimes · 21/06/2024 19:42

If they didn’t buy them the ticket touts would have.

greencartbluecart · 21/06/2024 19:42

Agreed @Tricho there are many things much less fair and much more selfish in life

Is it selfish to fly abroad for a holiday given its impact on other peoples lives?
Is it selfish to queue jump the NHS by paying for the same doctor privately

We could go on

IncognitoUsername · 21/06/2024 19:43

It’s nothing like people panic buying - those were things other people actually needed. No-one ‘needs’ to go to a concert.
Most things in life aren’t fair.

Trickabrick · 21/06/2024 19:43

Swollenandgrouchy · 21/06/2024 19:41

I’d pay to not have to go.

I feel I could get the whole concert experience by watching TikTok on repeat as everyone who attended seems to have recorded most of it anyway 😂

Everyone's going to say that people can do what they want, but I get you. It is a bit selfish.

Sozzels · 21/06/2024 19:44

Dunno why it’s greedy or selfish to be honest. They’ve paid. First come first served

Imnotsu · 21/06/2024 19:45

Except in this instance ticket touts would buy them instead. Someone else not buying tickets doesn't necessarily improve your chances. Some people might be trying multiple cities and end up getting tickets at the exact same time so then attending both etc. If they want to, then they should be able to, there's no 'fairness' involved

ArabellaFishwife · 21/06/2024 19:47

No interest in TS. I've been known to bitch to myself about people hogging front row at multiple gigs for other performers, but that's only envy on my part that they have the energy, money and time to do so. It's my issue. They're under no obligation to make things fairer. It's nothing like hoarding essential resources. They can be as selfish as they like.

SummaLuvin · 21/06/2024 19:49

It is selfish. It's an incredibly in demand show, people who go to multiple times are prioritising their desire to go again over someone's chance seeing it once. It's not the worst thing in the world, but it meets the definition of selfish - (of a person, action, or motive) lacking consideration for other people; concerned chiefly with one's own personal profit or pleasure. There is no mechanism to prevent it however, and the excuse people always use is that there is no guarantee that if they didn't buy the ticket that it would go to someone more deserving.

Sleepygrumpyandnothappy · 21/06/2024 19:49

Labour should nationalise Taylor Swift. Starmer is missing a trick.
