To not offer two types of beef burger at summer fair (halal and non halal)?

In addition a veggie option?

I’ve took responsibility for sorting the burgers for BBQ at summer school PTA fair.
I was thinking, I can buy all burgers as halal only. A good portion of the school population are either non-religious or Muslim.

However, DH is saying we should also offer a non-halal burger option (he is religious - Sikh and avoids halal due to his beliefs). However I think he is a minority and could have veggie? There are Hindus but they wouldn’t eat beef anyway so it’s a tiny amount of people other than DH who I think would care if we go full halal for the burgers.

IMO one type of beef burger that is suitable for most would be easiest. AIBU?

Absolutely not, I would not eat halal food.

LittleEsme · 18/06/2024 22:45

I'm pretty certain that many schools just buy halal meat. Mine does.

Some of you need to see the difference between halal and kosher.

@VisitationRights
You would never go to Bali or Turkey, Maldives, Malaysia Morocco or the UAE?

No, I would not. I have never visited any of those countries.

Do you only eat kosher meat? (If you eat meat of course).

It shows.

SergeantDawkins · 18/06/2024 22:46

This is ridiculous. Just get veggie/vegan burgers and halal burgers. Cook them separately for the veggies.
Obviously if the majority of people there are Muslim it makes sense to buy halal. If anyone doesn’t want a halal burger they don’t have to have one. Have a veggie one. Or don’t. It’s not compulsory. I have never heard of someone starving to death at a school fete.

mamaandbump · 18/06/2024 22:47

I hope all the Muslims that read these comments don't let these racist evil people get to you. I'm sorry for all the sly remarks and bunch of EDL supporters in the comments pretending they have a reason to not eat Halal.

This is so sad in Birmingham we wouldn't give it a second though we prefer Halal food too and we love the muslim community.

dunkdemunder · 18/06/2024 22:47

HulaChick · 18/06/2024 22:25

I wouldn't buy Halal meat if you paid me.

Why?

ExitChasedByCars · 18/06/2024 22:47

Leidenschaft24 · 18/06/2024 22:43

I make sure to avoid halal.
We live in an area with few takeaways and don't eat out often.
We don't eat huge amounts of meat either.
I don't need or want my food blessed, and do not want the option of non-halal to be eroded.
I'm happy for others to eat what they choose for religious and/or moral reasons.
I'm not anti-muslim or any other faith just because I don't want to follow certain rules around eating.

Edited

And your justification in not eating halal is that you don’t want your meat “blessed”? Is it not meat? Does it taste any different?

If muslims started saying a prayer on all the tikka spices & flavourings. Would you stop buying them too?

StormingNorman · 18/06/2024 22:44

Well that’s awkward for the racists.

You're making a big jump.
Preferring non-halal does not make someone a racist.
It's akin to the boy who cried wolf.

mamaandbump · 18/06/2024 22:12

These comments are disgusting. Please either leave vegetarian as an option or do put halal options out. Im a white english woman but not the bloody EDL like most of these comments.

You sound lovely, mama ❤️

If you buy meat from supermarkets or have ever had a takeaway or a restaurant meal with meat in it, you almost certainly have eaten halal meat.

And you survived! Congratulations.

Racist?
Evil?
I don't think many muslims would even expect non-muslims to also follow the rules of their religion tbh.

Or to be thrown off a building. Or being made to go through SRS.

MeinKraft · 18/06/2024 22:51

Put up one of those little huts that you get at Christmas markets and do kangaroo burgers and bratwurst.

dunkdemunder · 18/06/2024 22:51

@mrschocolatte

I’m confused OP. If your DP is a Sikh and religious he wouldn't be eating any meat so not sure what he’s worried about?
Good grief the ignorance on here is astounding. Sikhs can eat meat.

Danfromdownunder · 18/06/2024 22:52

When did Bali become a Muslim country?

Instinct1 · 18/06/2024 22:52

OP, is the veggie burger an actual veggie patty or a fake meat one?

No one’s expecting you to follow Islamic rules. You clearly have an issue with a majority Muslim meat eating cohort being catered for, no matter how much you try to backtrack.

LSTMS30555 · 18/06/2024 22:53

Actually Sikhs are forbidden from eating meat that's been ritually slaughtered (halal & kosher) so seems unfair to the Sikhs attending also.

I'm not backtracking.
