It’s June. The sky is constantly grey. It’s raining all the time. Don’t get me started on the wind. I had to put the heating on this morning. God it’s depressing! Is this climate change in action or am I remembering Junes of the past with rose-tinted shades?! I can’t afford a holiday this year and I’m aching for some vitamin D :(

I absolutely can’t stand it when it’s too hot and I often frequent the “it’s too hot” threads but even I’m fed up of this gloomy stuff we’re having.

That said, I apologise in advance because I think it’s all my fault. We got air con installed last week so now we’re guaranteed not to need it aren’t we?!🙈

alittlehopeisadangerousthing · 11/06/2024 20:16

It's absolutely bloody awful

I feel really depressed about it tbh

TheHateIsNotGood · 11/06/2024 20:17

Yep - every right to feel pissed off. 18 fucking months of shit weather with very little respite - yeah, yeah a few hot days last June and lately some rays of sunshine that pierce the chilly temp and stiff breezes - like a Swallow does not make a summer.

I want my money back as I've been missold a lemon, pup, etc is the only saying that describes how I feel about it. The UK weather better come up with the goods very soon or I'll be seeing it in Court!

Dramatic · 11/06/2024 20:23

I'm pretty sure this is the first June since I became a mother (in 2007) that I've had to send the kids to school in their winter coats. So yeah, it's definitely colder. I'm in the NE and I can count on one hand the amount of days we've been able to comfortably walk around in t shirts, in some years we've barely needed a light jacket from April onwards.

Thanks for ruining summer 😭😭😭

😂😂😂😂

Objectrelations · 11/06/2024 20:29

I'm in Jersey and it finally got sunnier and less rainy after a biblically bad winter and spring about 2 weeks ago - but it still feels cooler, windier and more prone to be cloudy than usual.

DollyTots · 11/06/2024 20:33

It hailed here in Essex yesterday…in June?! And of course on the school run. Tipping it down now.

TheMarzipanDildo · 11/06/2024 20:35

I sort of thought global warming would mean it would feel warmer. I’m not saying I was looking forward to it but I did think it might be a silver lining. Never mind.

ZebraD · 11/06/2024 20:52

TuesdayWhistler · 11/06/2024 19:01

And yet it suddenly gets hot in June and cold on December 1st?

🤣

There's been seasons long before we had months.

Exactly! So you would expect a build up! Not a sudden change to heat just because a mumsnet poster said it was summer on 21st June! Seriously! The entire UK is commenting on how cold it is yet of course someone has to go against the grain just because they want an argument! Stick your heating on warm yourself up and have a think about it!

ALunchbox · 11/06/2024 18:52

I had optismistically put away my Winter clothes a few weeks ago, but brought them back down recently.

It is a pretty decent trench coat wearing weather though although it pisses it down occasionally during the day.

whyamisotiredallthetime · 11/06/2024 20:57

I'm also East Midlands

Bloody freezing but absolutely refuse to go round and close all the windows off the latch again

So I'm sat here feeling the cold breeze---- fresh air with my Oodie on

Combattingthemoaners · 11/06/2024 20:59

It is beyond a joke now. Bloody freezing it is! And it is making me miserable.

I haven’t read the full thread yet. I wonder if there will be people telling you to wrap up warm and get out for a walk 😂.

Yes my Oodie made a reappearance yesterday too!

Haha! I do love a good walk but there comes a point in the wind and rain, hair stuck to my face and mascara running, where I think oh f*ck this sky high, I wish I could drive! (usually on the 25 minute walk to nursery 🤣)

Summary of these threads.

OP: This weather is awful for June!

  1. Not where I am! I’m on holiday in a warm country. 😎
  2. I prefer this weather. I hate the sun.
  3. Not where I am. It was sunny just now and I’m wearing shorts.
  4. Actually, I think you’ll find this is perfectly normal.
  5. I hate it too.
SantasRubiksCube · 11/06/2024 21:07

I'm in the south east and apart from a few days where it has been warm/sunny, it's largely cool and grey alot of the time. I've had so many Facebook memories photos come up of this time a few years ago where DC were playing in the garden in swimsuits and eating ice lollies or of family picnics where the weather looks absolutely lovely. I'm 28 weeks pregnant and usually sweating but I had to have a hot bath the other night to warm up before bed as I was freezing, we've still got our winter duvets on the beds as it just seems to be cold nonstop

catlovingdoctor · 11/06/2024 21:08

Roselilly36 · 11/06/2024 19:38

I am totally fed up too. Weather really affects my mood.

Oh absolutely. I usually am happiest from May through to September when the weather is better but I'm just in a perpetual slump now.

reddingweddy · 11/06/2024 21:08

In Scotland where yes it's light now for 19 hours a day but we're still spending the evenings huddled under blankets clutching cups of tea because it's bloody freezing. This must be what summer is like at the North Pole only not quite as shit, and that's only because we're not being attacked by polar bears every time we put the bins out.

rewilded · 11/06/2024 21:08

Cold and rainy in Southbourne and forecast to be the same for the next two months at least. The jet stream has moved.

Whattt!!!

schnubbins · 11/06/2024 21:09

I live in Southern Germany where it has been raining for weeks with flooding everywhere .We dove down to Lake Garda for a few days to have a break ...guess what its pouring rain!

Autumn1990 · 11/06/2024 21:11

There’s an article on bbc website and apparently the jet stream is too south for the time of year so we are getting arctic air.
Id put the heating on if we had heating. Log burners been lit and no one’s given up their flannelette bedding or hot water bottles for summer.

Spring is a transitional month, building up to summer.

Not a sudden change to heat just because a mumsnet poster said it was summer on 21st June! Seriously!

you mentioned sudden change, not I.

And i didn't say it was summer on 21st, that's when the sun passes the equator and the northern hemisphere is facing the sun which gives us summer, its been that way for far longer than humans have been a thing, I haven't been back in time and had a word with big beard about it.

The entire UK is commenting on how cold it is yet of course someone has to go against the grain just because they want an argument!

Against the grain by mentioning a system that's eons old.. and i didn't start any argument, you branded my post "Nonsense", i was just responding.

Stick your heating on warm yourself up and have a think about it!

Very condescending and exclamation point heavy but, you'll be glad to know, I don't need my heating its lovely and mild here, and i have thought about it, I've considered the differences between the man made meteorological seasons and the astrological observed and measured seasons and i stand by the astrological and historical seasons and hope summer comes at the end of June and stays until Autumnal Equinox.

Have a great night. x

Every season actually begins twice—here’s why

Seasons can be defined in two different ways: astronomical and meteorological. We explain what they mean, and how to tell them apart.

Ineedaholidayyyy · 11/06/2024 21:16

Whether summer begins on 1st or end or June may be debatable, but June is normally warmer than this, it's considerably colder than previous years. I keep seeing Facebook memories pop up of hot days on the beach, park etc

I'm also beginning to think the school shorts I bought for my son were a waste of money , he's had his winter coat on this week, bloody ridiculous! He's never had to wear a winter coat at this time of the year before.

Freezing in london. It’s the first time I have put on thermals in summer.

This

It is cold in London and I have yet to see anyone in summer clothes.
