You are proving their point about the far left - yes.

👏

Iaskedyouthrice · 09/06/2024 00:22

It's peoples lack of ability to debate that has got us into this mess. We enjoy turning on each other too much.

Oh and the irony of some of you calling Farage a racist (which he is), when a woman of colour posts on here about racism she has faced, 90% of you rush to tell her she's imagined it. I've seen the most racist bullshit on this website by the left leaning brigade. Talk about glass houses.

Me too. And quite a number online. LOADS of posters on Mumsnet have said it this past few days!

I honestly think a lot of people are very riled up about the people coming in on boats and solely blame the failing NHS and housing shortage on this alone. They’ll vote for anyone that has a plan to change it.

Infuriating isn't it?! But some left-wing (far left moreso,) in their echo chamber can't see it. Can't see how their vile insults and name calling is doing NOTHING to help sway people or change their opinions. No sensible discussion, or talking, and offering suggestions, or asking questions etc. Just 'voted for Brexit did you, you thick racist c-nt,' and 'bigoted thickos voting Tory again!' And 'fucking gammon wrecking my childrens future.'

One bloke I know - who was 24 when we had the EU referendum - took a photograph of a house near him with a UK flag (on a flagpole) in the garden, and posted it on Twitter, with the caption 'here lives a thick racist c-nt.' He had that he was from Rochdale on his profile, and the name of the ROAD was in the photo, (and the house number visible!) so this house and the people in it were easily identifiable.

THIS (sadly) is the mentality of SOME of the left. If someone had a LibDem flag or Green Party flag in their window, you wouldn't get centric or right wing people snapping a photo of their HOUSE, with the number and road name on it, calling them thick c-nts and posting it on Twitter.

SOME people who are for 'the left' (moreso far left,) are waaaaay more vicious, vitriolic, mean-spirited, and spiteful and nasty than any right wing person I have ever met. Yet they act like their shit don't stink, like they're the good guys, and say everyone who doesn't agree with them is a thick, bigoted, racist c-nt.

Just impossible to have a discussion with them. They don't have the ability to do it. They just spit venom, they name-call, and they mock and goad.

(nb; the man wasn't from Rochdale. Don't want to identify anyone.)

Edited

"Basket of deplorables" cost HC a presidency and still some people can't see what a losing strategy the insults are.

What's most fascinating for me is the number of people who claim a vote for Labour is a vote for the greater good; to benefit those most in need, yet when the people in less economically advantageous situations talk about the reality of their lives and the biggest issues facing them they are insulted. The current Labour party is nothing like the old Labour party and it's alienated much of it's working class voter bass.

I agree that insults and vitriol is more a feature of the current left. They are so certain and righteous about everything they believe there is no room for discussion, it's quite violently authoritarian.

Matt Goodwin released a book last year (I think) about this phenomena. You can find interesting interviews with him on various podcasts and YouTube.

Paul Embry (a lifelong Labour voter and trade unionist) wrote a book about how Labour had alienated working class voters, the book was called 'Despised'!

Yep! This. ^ As I said, the Tories promised to change it, and promised Brexit would, but it's worse than ever! Many people are sick of it all, and are wanting some big changes that put Britain/British citizens first. No matter how SOME people are annoyed by this, and cry little Englander/Gammon/Racist etc, many MANY people think like this.

They can't all be wrong. And they're not all thick, bigoted, racist, gammon.

can't bring myself to vote for reform but I'm interested to hear their views on the women's rights v trans rights issue

Can't say I know the answer but I'd be surprised if Farage was nearer to the Labour rather than the Conservative stance on it.

Reform UK is generally regarded as a right or far-right party, so their policies are what you would expect from that side of the political spectrum.

They have a draft manifesto on their website. I don't think they have a specific section for sex and gender, but browsing their manifesto gives a few insights into their views:

Mandate Single Sex Spaces.
Public toilets and changing areas must provide single sex facilities.

Ban Transgender Ideology in Primary and Secondary Schools.
There are 2 sexes and 2 genders. It is a dangerous safeguarding issue to confuse children by suggesting otherwise. No gender questioning, social transitioning or pronoun swapping. Inform parents of under 16s about their children’s life decisions. Schools must have single sex facilities.

I genuinely don't think they do blame the failing NHS and housing shortage solely on people coming to the UK in boats.

I think it bothers people because they are illegally entering the country, the left wing news media portray them all as asylum seekers and when people ask about why there is such a disproportionate number of young men they are insulted and labelled racists. People know they are being gaslit.

It's is obvious that the majority of these young men are economic migrants. There is nothing wrong with wanting a better life but we have an immigration process that you should not be able to circumnavigate by paying a criminal gang. We are literally enabling a criminal enterprise.

The channel crossing is incredibly risky and when they arrive the migrants are ripe for exploitation by more criminals who will use the vulnerability of their illegal status as leverage to control them.

Record levels of immigration reveals the lie that there are no legal means of entry into this country. People enter illegally because they would not meet the criteria for a visa or asylum.

It’s not even a political party, it’s a registered company.

Good luck to the people of Clapton if they vote for Farage. They’ll have more chance of seeing him in a BBC studio than in a constituency surgery.

Do they really think an ex Dulwich college boy, and banker who lives for the limelight will spend even 7 hours a week in a very deprived area listening to locals asking for his help?

He'd already said he didn't want to spend Fridays for the next five years there.

GeneralPeter · 09/06/2024 02:40

@brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

[Switzerland] has efficient public services, high salaries, mindblowing public transport, excellent healthcare. And it’s smaller and more densely populated than the UK.

How do they do it ?

Mainly, international capitalism.

More specifically, trade in financial services, big pharma, gold and luxury goods.

I think that's a reasonable model which we can build on for the UK. Our economy is more complex though as we can't just do that. We need an economy that works for the highly educated/mobile/wealthy and also for those who aren't. But harnessing the UK's strengths in those areas is a good start.

(I'm being a bit mischievous, as I saw you are anti capitalism and then pointed to Switzerland as a model! I think any worldview that selects one single cause as the source of all ills, whether that is "immigrants" or "capitalism" is pretty certain to be wrong).

Neap0l1tan · 09/06/2024 05:35

Nice try!😂What are you talking about? Links please?Cant see anything other than the odds are they could win at least 1 seat. Hardly terrifying.🙄

They have gained in popularity amongst people who previously voted conservative ( no surprise there) who are lagging hugely behind labour. So still the likelihood of labour in power with a decimated Conservative Party. Hardly a scary thought after the 14 years of chaos we’ve had.

Legal migration occurs at a much higher rate than illegal migration. This is why the small boats receive relatively little attention—they represent a tiny percentage of the total migration.

I think most people don't have an issue with legal migration eg work visas, student visas, naturalised. Although I've faced racism because I'm mixed race (my dad is white English and my mum was born in England but not white).

11k people arrived by boats so far this year. 46k in 2022. 84k granted asylum in 2023 and 100k in 2022. This is according to a BBC article. It's an issue because asylum seekers are usually placed in the same areas of the UK, which means those towns really struggle with GP appointments, dental places, schools, housing etc. England is really tiny compared to many other European countries. It's a really tricky topic.

I'll preface this by saying I have friends of all religions. But I do think immigration that results in closed communities can create problems because I've seen it first hand.

I've told this story before but my lovely SIL came from Pakistan at 13. Her passport was faked to show her as 18. She married here, had her first child at 13 and had three children by 16 (not by my brother). Over 40 years later she cannot read or write and speaks only broken English, partly as she lives in a closed community that doesn't really interact beyond that and applies their own laws.

I don't think that is healthy for the future of the U.K and it is not an isolated case. I'm not going to let political correctness and cries of racism stop me from calling it out. It's child rape and our education system has failed her and left her completely beholden to others.

If 'British values' include protecting girls and women and ensuring they receive an education like the rest of the country, then I support that.

Whenwillitgetwarm · 09/06/2024 08:00

Interesting to see Reforms online marketing campaign ramping up. I guess they needed to put Richard Tice’s investment to good use.

Whilst there will be some people who spend all day and night screaming about ‘small boats’, ‘dinghy people’ being given 5 star hotels, who will love Farage’s attempt to turn this into an ‘immigration’ election, I feel most people IRL release the dinghy issue was caused by Brexit, and Farage brought us Brexit.

Reform have nothing to say to make us a better/stronger country in future. It’s all about the past and immigrants to them because this is the platform where Farage, the grifter makes the most money.

He will win the seat which includes Jaywick in its constituency. Many people there talk of being left behind, but many of them want to be left behind, and use immigrants as an excuse/scapegoat.

Voterswung · 09/06/2024 08:08

@blue345 I know two ladies Like (not sure of ages when brought over though) this I wonder if any survey has ever been done. I agree about a two tier system where some cultures girls are treated differently to what we expect from others.

It's so sensitive it has to be done from within the community.

Fojon, good posts.

Voterswung · 09/06/2024 08:10

Exactly this!

Links please as what I’m seeing are people by and large across the country remembering how we were lied to re Brexit and not trusting Reform with anything left alone a country to run.

Far right Tories defecting is hardly big news. The Tories are going to be decimated for a reason and it won’t be because the country wants even more right wing policies and more chaos.

Part of the problem is that anyone who tries to discuss immigration, especially when saying it’s not working and supports a reduction of immigration numbers, is called a racist, a bigot or far right. This will just push people towards parties like reform.

We need to be able to debate immigration - ultimately there is a level of immigration that we cannot as a country currently afford. Equally we need a level of migration for a strong economy. We need to stop illegal immigration and the boats but have a quick and fair asylum process.

How we fix it I don’t know. But it’s through open discussion, debate and disagreement that we’ll come up with solutions rather than name calling and creating echo chambers of opinion.

👏👏👏👏👏

lollipoprainbow · 09/06/2024 09:13

Youneverknowwhatyourgonnaget · 08/06/2024 19:38

Wanting to control immigration to a rate that people can integrate properly and stop masses of undocumented men from entering our country illegally when we have no idea who they are their backgrounds is not racist! Reform are offering people an alternative to the main 2 party’s who are pretty much the same. Reform will 100% be getting my vote

Well said
