Please say what you think. Vinted asked NDN to verify her ID, which she’s happy to do, or they won’t let her withdraw the £300 she’s made selling her stuff.

Life on disability benefits not so easy right now. Her £300 a big deal.

But she can’t do the checks - cos the only ID Vinted accepts is a passport or driver’s licence, neither of which she has as she can’t travel. All the other ID proofs - she has loads - Vinted won’t accept.

We’ve appealed to Vinted three times and they won’t budge. Mangopay, their money platform, refer us to
Vinted.

So Vinted are keeping NDN’s money. They say ‘We hope you will understand’.

YABU = I’m with Vinted.
YANBU = Shame on Vinted.

What has her disability got to do with it?
Most people with disabilities have ID!

Hermittrismegistus · 05/06/2024 17:52

Can't she just apply for a provisional license? They come pretty quickly

Hermittrismegistus · 05/06/2024 17:52

Licence *

VeniceVentura · 05/06/2024 17:53

Hmm, Vinted are arses that's for sure.

I made a post recently about their unfair policies.

Most of the responses on my thread, although mostly sympathetic, were that "well you did sign up to the T&Cs".

If it's in their T&Cs then unfortunately she may be a bit stuck, but worth checking to see if these forms of acceptable ID are listed specifically.

It doesn't make it right, I know. As I say, they're arses and definitely favour the seller.

SausageRoll2020 · 05/06/2024 17:55

If this was in the terms and conditions when she signed up for Vinted/Mangopay then it's her own fault.

If it wasn't then she has a valid complaint.

Most of us probably just tick to say we've read the t's and C's without actually doing so but this is the risk.

Miriad · 05/06/2024 17:55

You don’t need to travel to have a passport. You can get a passport for ID purposes and just put it in a drawer.

How is she proving her ID when required if she doesn’t have a passport or driving licence?

TwilightSkies · 05/06/2024 17:55

OPs friend is the seller though

PrimalLass · 05/06/2024 17:56

A provisional licence is £34 so she might as well do that. It is shit though.

Clarice99 · 05/06/2024 17:56

Is the requirement for passport and/or driving licence ID in their T&C for receiving payment?

Yes.

alittlequinnie · 05/06/2024 17:59

Just came on to mention to all the people telling her to get a driving licence. There's a box on the form to ask if you have any medical conditions that mean you might struggle to drive.

If you do and you tick this box you won't get one. They won't issue a provisional driving licence if you are never going to be able to drive.

I've tried to get driving licences for disabled clients for ID purposes but no joy if they won't be able to drive.

Such a pain. It's so easy for somebody disabled to not have photo ID. :(

Everyone can get a passport though, so there’s no reason for anyone not to have photo id 🤷‍♀️

Well, you simply don't tick the box.

If you know you will never be driving then how would you ever get in trouble for not ticking the box?

Aligirlbear · 05/06/2024 18:03

Vented specify it must be a passport or driving licence /provisional driving licence on their site and in T&Cs. It all links into the Know Your Customer Monday Laundering requirements which Mangopay must adhere to for their payments licence - great unless you don’t have either. Could your friend try taking out a smaller amount which might not need ID (Vinted talk about needing ID if you exceed a limit ? ) and then repeat to get all her funds ?

Supersimkin2 · 05/06/2024 18:04

You can’t get a driving licence for lots of disabilities.

Why should NDN have to pay £100 for a passport she can’t use when things like freedom passes or bank letters work 100 per cent of the time everywhere else?

OP posts:
neilyoungismyhero · 05/06/2024 18:05

I didn't have to provide either of these

WalkingonWheels · 05/06/2024 18:06

I'm disabled and don't travel. I still have a passport because in many cases, it's the only accepted form of ID.

This isn't ableist. Not having a passport has nothing whatsoever to do with disability.

Apart from the fact that a passport is expensive. Not difficult to understand really!

MogHog · 05/06/2024 18:08

I've just had to do the same. You only get asked to verify when you hit a certain amount in withdrawals
I've sold over £700 of stuff on vinted and have only just been asked
I usually withdraw smaller amounts when it's ready so don't let it build up in to the hundreds but I'm.assuming she has hit that target and will have to suck it up and get some ID

HDready · 05/06/2024 18:08

Looking at it, it’s a Mangopay know your customer requirement rather than a Vinted requirement. It’s related to protections against money laundering which is why it needs to be a passport or driving licence.

Not helpful I know, but £300 is quite a big balance to be holding and I think that’s what has triggered Mangopay’s requirement for the ID. Better to make more regular, smaller withdrawals.

FourOfDiamonds · 05/06/2024 18:09

Could you get a close friend or family with ID to set up an account, you buy something for £300 from them, they take out the money and give it back to you? Bit of a work around but would save you getting a passport?

OhmygodDont · 05/06/2024 18:10

I don’t drive or fly. I got a provisional at 17 for I’d purposes to buy booze frankly and now just renew the photo. It is in their terms and conditions though when she signed up to be a seller.

PuttingDownRoots · 05/06/2024 18:11

I think Vincent is being unreasonable to not verifying IDs before allowing people to sell really.

Supersimkin2 · 05/06/2024 18:11

Vinted confirms they’re keeping the cash.

NDN will need ID when voting on 4 July so what will she do then? #missespointofthread
