I have just been listening to his speech at Clacton today about DDay and patriotism and it's all hot air and bluster and nonsense and honestly WHO COULD POSSIBLY VOTE FOR THIS IGNORANT CLOWN?!?

OK but seriously anyone who is tempted, please tell me. I genuinely cannot understand it.

Typo in thread title edited by MNHQ to make it clear the thread is about Farage, not a garage

Yes @AmpleFatball no idea why you've fixated on the un just taking about international bodies/globalisation generally. There is an argument that we need some immigration although many countries with declining birthrates like Japan manage without it but no argument for net 800k pa of mostly low skilled people who are a net cost and while we have substantial housing shortages and 5 million on out of work benefits. Those people will also all get old and be entitled to a pension so unsustainable.

I referenced the UN because you brought them up? Other than the ECHR, what other international bodies do you think are restraining political change in the UK?

I wouldn’t say Japan are managing, either - their new PM, just last year observed that the country is on the “brink of social dysfunction" due to the country’s rapidly declining birth rate, population, and labour force.

People who are worried about immigration are voting Reform .. a party that has no actual plan of how they are planning to reduce numbers.

They just see the headlines

They do say. Look on their manifesto. It's by coming out of European Court of Human Rights. Meaning all illegal immigrants coming over in boats will be intercepted and taken back to France.

Illegal immigration is only a small portion (3%) of total immigration.

Leaving the ECHR would not allow the UK to return illegal immigrants to France.

Farage admitted, on the BBC today, that Reform’s policies on illegal immigration (as set out in their manifesto) are unworkable bollocks.

Northernnature · 05/06/2024 07:59

@AmpleFatball no one said Reform are the answer, I personally support SDP but they don't have enough publicity to make a difference. The op just asked why Farage is popular. And many countries in Europe that have had too much immigration to integrate such as Germany, Sweden are arguably suffering more dysfunction than Japan. Examples of int bodies we are signed to well as UN - WHO, WEF ECHR all have more influence on our leaders than the voters. Noone is addressing the real issues.

People like Farage because he provides an antidote to the smug, self congratulatory, passive aggressive leftism that has over taken our country since Tony Blair et al! He doesn't shut down anyone concerned about mass immigration and social change with screams of racism! He understands why people are concerned and plays to it! The arrogant left still don't get that Brexit happened not because of Farage but because firstly the smugs tried to tell the silent majority that they were not to be trusted with a referendum and then tried to thwart the results of the referendum by patronising people and telling them they didn't know what they were voting for! I think they will also get a shock in theis election!

SocksAndTheCity · 05/06/2024 17:39

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have these @lovelysunshine22 .

You must be running out after that diatribe (and calling others 'smug' while standing up for one of the smuggest, most self congratulatory cunts alive is possibly the most ironic post on the whole thread) 😂

Americano75 · 05/06/2024 17:59

He's just a jobby that won't flush.

2dogsandabudgie · 05/06/2024 18:10

Well he would definitely make politics in this country more interesting!

jotorious · 05/06/2024 19:58

Well I live in clacton and won't be voting for him. From local chat it would appear that it is split 50/50, unfortunately quite a few people are saying he is a man of the people and will put Clacton on the map.

Also, the local mcdonalds was closed recently due to pest infestation. I saw something today suggesting it was maggots in the milkshake machine!!

Perfect example of what i said 🙄

Itllfalloff · 07/06/2024 10:24

He's that slightly racist bloke in your local who wants to bring back national service despite never having done any kind of serving or volunteering himself...
Don't know what anyone sees in him, but some people find him 'refreshing' apparently

'Smug'?

Are you sure you mean smug/smugs? If so what/who do you mean by that?

Are you saying that other people being smug is the primary reason to vote of wholesale change in the country's leadership and direction? smugness? Are you sure?
