I have just been listening to his speech at Clacton today about DDay and patriotism and it's all hot air and bluster and nonsense and honestly WHO COULD POSSIBLY VOTE FOR THIS IGNORANT CLOWN?!?

OK but seriously anyone who is tempted, please tell me. I genuinely cannot understand it.

Typo in thread title edited by MNHQ to make it clear the thread is about Farage, not a garage

My husband is going to vote for him

<honestly, I couldn't stay with anyone who would.

Ravenclawhouse · 04/06/2024 20:33

On a slightly different note, I was chatting to someone the other day who thought Jacob Rees Mogg would be a great Tory leader and Prime Minister. I was so unprepared for what they said, I should have questioned them more I feel. I just said that I am not so sure about him (or the party). Confused

Ravenclawhouse · 04/06/2024 20:35

The thing is they are a lovely, smart person and so it just baffled me. As I find him terrifying

Soon to be ex husband surely?

I think we’re all missing the important point here.
The McDonald’s milkshake machine is working in Clacton! Let’s all get down there quick!

...and form a queue to chuck milkshake over him.

Yes yes it's assault and she shouldn't have done it but shame it wasn't a large rock or perhaps an axe.

I'm joking - calm down you frothers!

LadyWiddiothethird · 04/06/2024 20:40

@Blueeyedmale Her behaviour was abhorrent, behave like that and she takes what goes with it.

There are some very strange people out there, walking among us

I don’t care for Nigel Farage but the woman who threw a milk shake at him should be held accountable. It’s not acceptable to behave like that.

I say good on her.

ExtraOnions · 04/06/2024 20:41

People who are worried about immigration are voting Reform .. a party that has no actual plan of how they are planning to reduce numbers.

They just see the headlines

Blueeyedmale · 04/06/2024 20:44

LadyWiddiothethird · 04/06/2024 20:40

That's a really sad view that you have its not OK for men to threaten women full stop yes her behaviour was wrong but threats of violence and making sexual comments about someone isn't acceptable

billysboy · 04/06/2024 20:45

He has certainly got everyone talking about him

It's his superpower.
It's also his only power.

ExtraOnions · 04/06/2024 20:53

…it’s most probably a big publicity stunt, on both sides

TheThingIsYeah · 04/06/2024 20:59

@hattie43

I think he might do rather well , not because people like his message but because people are sick and tired of mainstream parties promising the earth and delivering nothing .

Farage voters won't be on MN.

100% this.

MN is, in the main, a Labour party echo chamber. So be very glad that Nigel Farage is standing for Clacton. The extra votes he'll garner for Reform will be the final nail in the coffin for the Conservatives. Sir Kier (I'm working class!) Starmer will be your man soon enough. So cue 5 more years of the same old shite - spiced up only with Nige throwing occasional truth bombs at PMQs.

Reform aka The Brexit Party aka UKIP increased immigration through pushing us into Brexit. They LOVE uncontrolled immigration, it keeps them in jobs, and on the telly. It keeps the grift going. The long con.

Katemax82 · 04/06/2024 19:43

Do you have any children? What does he think about them being forced to have an unwanted child? Farage is against a woman’s (and also their partners) right to choose to have a child through his support of Trump.

Hiyhooo · 04/06/2024 21:32

EffortlesslyInelegant · 04/06/2024 20:31

It is obviously true that nobody ASKS to be assaulted but in the case of Farage it ought really to be made compulsory. I'd happily be arrested/charged/banged up just for the sheer joy of throwing milkshake at the fucker.

Well, you've just made yourself sound really pathetic so....well done? Anyone who wants to assault someone like that just shows exactly who they are

Assault? Bollocks. The nasty piece of work can wipe a bit of milkshake off.

It is classed as assault.”

I treating that you didn’t quote the rest of my post, which is valid.

At the risk of being ego-centric, here the rest is again:

“His assault on the freedoms of millions of people will negatively affect them for years. You can’t blame it on those who voted Brexit: countless studies after the result showed clearly that it was mostly elderly people/economically disadvantaged people and people who did not benefit from higher level education who voted leave. They believed the lies he, Cummings and Johnson, etc., fed them, that their lives would be infinitely better if the UK left the EU.
I don’t blame them in the least. They were sold a pup by clever, manipulative people whom, had they a shred of decency, would have slunk quietly into the ether by now. But no, here he is, doubling down on his bullshit.

In Clacton, he’s quite likely to become MP.”

Anyone who seriously believes that chucking milkshake at a disgraceful person is equal to the damage that said person has caused for millions going forward, for generations, needs their head tested.

I loathe Farage and think Brexit is a national catastrophe but people of all different political persuasions could cook up similar rationales to justify assaulting any other politician.

Yes, milkshake throwing is low level, but it is an act of violence. I don’t think it’s justifiable (and, while this is besides the point, all it does is help Farage).

It's a nonsensical comparison as they are 2 separate things. You can disagree with someone's politics or everything about someone. You can also disagree with someone assaulting someone you don't particularly like because it's a disgusting, pathetic thing to do and is a crime whether some people like it or not.

Soukmyfalafel · 04/06/2024 21:50

If he does get to be an MP, the people of Clacton won't see him for dust. He's just a grifter. He won't do anything for the community. They may as well wipe their arse on the ballot paper.

With the people we have on offer, and the pathetic tribalism politics has turned into, I've considered doing the same.

Tories-nut jobs, just no
Reform-Bigger nut jobs, no no no
Labour- worryingly looking very intolerant to anyone who isn't a Starmerite, and has differing views. Ever heard of group think? You need some left leaning people in the party for balance. What is this party turning into?
Lib Dems - aside from today, with VC talking about his son, they've looked like they are playing a version of 'Race Across the UK' for the last two weeks
Greens-I don't really know much about their policies.

Obviously it is going to boil down to who is running in my town, but it is even worse when I look into them. It was a Tory stronghold, but our MP has been largely absent and is more of a ghost than Jacob Reese-Mogg. Those looking to replace him aren't that great either. I feel utterly deflated. Having Farage meddling again is hardly surprising in this mess.

Whether you consider it equal or not one is illegal/against the law, the other is being a politician.

Anyone that believes that any other politician is in it for anyone other than themselves, needs, as you put it, their head testing.

Another of those pointless threads ‘please explain why you are doing this, I want to understand’. Like the Brexit threads all over again. You’re not interested in why, won’t listen, will insult and shout down anyone who tries to explain. So as I say, bit pointless….

Livelovebehappy · 04/06/2024 22:22

And yes. I will be voting for Reform.
