DP called me a middle class racist

1000 replies

Whoswhoof · 31/05/2024 20:02

Just now. Discussing the upcoming election. Both always voted labour. I said I’m voting Tory in the upcoming GE for a multitude of reasons, some of which come under the bracket of gender identity, kids sex ed, general tightening of illegal immigration, not taxing private schools. I explained you kind of just have to vote for the party that most aligns with your beliefs as you’re never going to agree with all of them (I don’t agree with a lot of Tory policies, but the ones that are important to me are relevant)

DP then jokes “So you’re a middle class racist now!” Then says only joking. DP will be voting labour.

Aibu to think this is quite out of order?

It’s a continent duh, so why are so rude about it. Rwanda is an incredible country.

I would rather be safe from rape in a hospital or for my teen girls to change whilst shopping without men putting them at risk or be able to compete in sports - prisons where officers are raped. Yes! I am going to choose safety and legal protection every fucking time for my dds and I. I don’t want hairy men doing my smear tests or my mammogram thanks. I choose dignity and my rights to be legal protected. Over all else.

It’s astonishing you think Labour will ever address the pay gap, how are they going to manage that when they think men can be women overnight?! 🤷🏼‍♀️ Sure you can address the pay gap by shipping in men in dresses and artificially altering the reality.

Goodness replies like this really do show how poorly some people can balance risk and reward.

You are guaranteed to be worse off under a Tory government. You are not guaranteed to be raped in a toilet. In fact, you are incredibly unlikely to be raped in a toilet. And I am betting it’s also unlikely your daughters will become professional sports people.

also no one said anything about the gender pay gap.

@CountFucula There is safe passage. There's a ferry, the channel tunnel and a train from France. There's no reason you can't be a refugee in France ( EU utopia) and then come to the U.K.

You can’t claim asylum in the Uk from France, you can’t claim asylum in the UK from anywhere but the UK so people who want to be here to be with loved ones are forced into dangerous journeys.

I would LOVE to vote Green… I can’t because of their stance on gender ideology. Or any other party that cannot agree that sex is biological (and the earth is flat…). I also believe you should be able to live in peace as whomsoever you wish to be…BUT my daughters should be protected and also able to compete sportingly on a true equal footing.

DontWheeshtMe · 31/05/2024 23:32

Genevieva · 31/05/2024 23:25

The fundamental basis of democracy is that everyone must be allowed to vote for whichever party or MP they wish for any reason at all. There is no hierarchy of reasoning, intention or sentiment in a democracy. Each person gets one vote and can choose for themselves how to use it without interference from anyone else.

Marvellous post 🙏

You are entirely wrong, I work in the Judiciary and we have had NUMEROUS rapes of both prison officers and female prisoners, some resulting in pregnancies, by men pretending to be women. Many haven’t been publicised due to the perceived back lash, although one or two were reported.

You are utterly deluded if you think this is a non issue, and it speaks volumes about your ignorance quite frankly. This will be why Labour lose the election, they are simply not taking this issue seriously.

samarrange · 31/05/2024 23:33

SadOrWickedFairy · 31/05/2024 20:32

Apart from all those Labour MPs who were privately educated and send their own children to private schools.

Do as I say not as I do.

I can't think of a single current (now outgoing) Labour MP who sends their kids to a private school. They would presumably have been hauled over the coals by the Mail and co.

In the other direction, kids don't generally decide where to go to school, so bashing a Labour MP for having been privately educated is as silly as bashing a Tory MP for the same thing ("posh Tory toff" is a snide comment that I wish people on the left would stop, it's as bad as slagging off a politician for their weight).

As for PPs' comments about not being able to support private schools and be a Labour supporter, there are dozens of political issues and you only get one vote. I suspect that most voters agree with 20% of what their chosen party stands for, disagree with 10%, and don't have very strong feelings about the rest. The media tries to impose a highly simplified model of politics as a single left-right slider with everyone collected at a few points on any given issue based on their party affiliation ("where the Tories are on this", "where Labour are on this"), but it's way more complicated for that for most normal people.

Are you that stupid that you couldn’t see a typo or are you just jumping on it because you can’t argue with the truth. There is nothing wrong with Rwanda, and I have no idea why you have an issue with it.

Of course you have.

I work for the MoJ and have more than enough awareness of the issue you are claiming to be raising here.

Doesn’t change the facts that you are incredibly unlikely to be a victim of rape from a trans woman.

If you fear rape in prison maybe try to raise your daughters well enough they don’t end up in one.

Again, factually you and your daughters will be worse off under a Tory government. Those are basic facts unless you’re mega wealthy that is.

So you know about the rapes. It’s despicable that women were raped in locked cells, entirely unable to defend themselves. And whilst it might be unlikely my dds will be in prison anytime soon 😂 they might well need to use a hospital where they will encounter the same issue.

I certainly do not need to prove myself to you! Safe to say you don’t know about the cases, it’s a serious issue.

Lifeomars · 31/05/2024 23:41

I inhabit a totally different world, the area I live in cannot take another 5 years of Tory rule, just consider this, the local church runs a free meal club once a week. They used to provide 50 dinners, they are now catering for 300 and operating a shift system in conjunction with the local food bank. We have people sleeping on the streets here, it used to just be in the city centre but there is now visible homelessness in the suburbs too. When I vote I don't just think about what is best for me personally I try and think about what is best for vulnerable people too.

CountFucula · 31/05/2024 23:41

These threads often attract people who rather conveniently work in ‘the Judiciary’ or the ‘MoD’.
It’s the ‘my Dad’s a policeman’ form of legitimacy.

what's wrong with Rwanda?

how about crippling levels of poverty

Poor human rights records

Their current support of the conflict in the DRC - which since you love women’s rights should horrify you. As recently a 13 year old girl gave birth and watched her baby raped to death by the same people the Rwandan government are supporting. Rape is being used as a tool of war and the Rwandan government are actively supporting it.

They back the M23, which has led the US to recently label them as complicit in the use of child soldiers

They have a strong track record of using torture in prisons

Then there is all the environmental issues such as mass flooding and landslides killing many people

But nah, it’s great, I’ll take the family for our next holiday

No, the conservatives have been the only party to realise the growing issue and they have addressed it. Labour is going to erode all of our progress.

We blame the ‘Tories’….but really it’s a faction of the far right wing, both Tory, Reform etc and a truly woeful ill educated opposition AND the British public for being soooo happy to be sooooo ill educated and ill informed themselves that they’ll vote on the basis of a populist headline. I’m not sure where we’ll end up but I don’t think it’ll be any better sadly. People need to demand better of themselves as well as everyone else.
