Delighted! Now, will it stop him winning the election? Could the US have a jailed president!

GordonBlue · 30/05/2024 22:14

YANBU that the justice system has prevailed.

However the possible repercussions on the ground are worrying. The USA is wild and a lot of them are riled.

AmiablePedant · 30/05/2024 22:14

Brave jury, given the amount of online persecution the MAGA crowd are capable of. Tips me hat to them.

Norugratsatall · 30/05/2024 22:14

Yep, delighted! Sadly he can still run for the Presidency.

Arlanymor · 30/05/2024 22:14

I've been following on the BBC website and when the first charge came back as guilty I accidentally shouted out loud: "Quite right too - arsehole!"

Wish I had remembered that my bedroom window was open - someone was walking past and I heard them say: "Oh... quiet night in!" 😳

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 30/05/2024 22:15

BBC saying he'll appeal. Well, he doesn't appeal to me! (boom boom)

It's fantastic news. But yes the consequences could be far reaching - it's a volatile country and a volatile time.

That is just crazy.

Sirzy · 30/05/2024 22:15

From what we have been told it is the right decision.

but sadly I can see there being a lot of trouble in New York and the rest of America tonight.

ssd · 30/05/2024 22:15

He'll still be president

FrogandTrumpet · 30/05/2024 22:16

That’s one trial out of the way.

When is the trial for hair crimes?

ssd · 30/05/2024 22:16

You can run for president from jail apparently!!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 30/05/2024 22:16

He could run from a jail cell. Could he serve from a jail cell? Strange times.

But what will be the punishment? When will we know?

I think if anything he will gain supporters and I just don’t understand how or why!

Lots of pp on Twitter saying they will vote for him. Surprisingly, having a conviction doesn't stop someone from standing for President in America!

No it won’t and it may even increase support for him. Weird. Very weird.

OneRedSandal · 30/05/2024 22:17

Good. If he wins the presidency after this, America will become (even more of) a laughing stock.

EmilyDickinson · 30/05/2024 22:17

Excellent news.

ssd · 30/05/2024 22:17

This will make him even more popular with his core voters

Shinyandnew1 · 30/05/2024 22:18

What’s the punishment likely to be?

BIWI · 30/05/2024 22:18

So who are the posters who have voted that YABU?!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 30/05/2024 22:18

You can understand why the constitution doesn't ban jailbirds from standing for President. Who would ever have thought it would be necessary to spell that out?

So pleased! It’s my birthday and what a lovely present!

He could get 4 years in prison but I’m sure he won’t!
