I would have a Ryder (male) and a Zola or Nova.

Came up with them when I was probably 15/16.

Not horrifically horrendous but I would now be disappointed had I become a teen mum.

Based on my ballet book obsession, Sebastian and Veronica (IYKYK), my Flambards obsession led to William, and in the era when astonishingly very few girls were called Charlotte (I didn't know any at least) I thought it was the most beautiful name!

FatherDickByrne · 29/05/2024 07:55

Tom and Mercedes. Also liked Jude and Keziah.

Elizabeth

If I had twins, Elizabeth and Jessica from Sweet Valley High

James for a boy

WilliamButt · 29/05/2024 08:18

Tricia, Cilla and Sanchez.

I thank the Lord I didn't meet my husband until I was a bit more sensible.

My husband and I were talking just recently wondering how many people would notice/comment if you had a Jessica and Elizabeth (yes, he also used to read SVH).

They would have been Joseph and Holly when I was a teenager.

They're Gilbert and Marcella in real life 🥰

Ooh nice thread!

My favourites were Clover (What Katy Did - I think...?), Lois (from Superman I assume) and Laurence for a boy (Little W I think). Still quite like them but put off Laurence because of the Fox man.

I still love Clover but couldn't get my husband on board 😅

I was fully planning to have twins who were going to be called Theresa and Trevor. I had a crush on the footballer Trevor Francis (showing my age there!!) and I wanted them both to have flaming red hair.

blobby10 · 29/05/2024 09:34

Boys were always going to be Andrew (Drew) or Dominic (dommie) or Sebastian (seb) or Alexander (Sandy)

Girls were going to be Tamsin Francesca.

Until they were born - boys had short first names which really couldn't be shortened as whats the point in spending ages choosing a name if you're going to call them something else!!.

Daughter was going to be Tamsin Francesca until she was conceived then I totally went off both names. Really struggled to find a girls name we liked but very happy with the one she has even though it got shortened when she went to college!

sodabreadjam · 30/05/2024 15:48

Didn't think about names for future children but did have dolls' names - girl dolls called Wendy and Lisa and a baby boy doll called Gary. Didn't use those names for my DC (who are now early 40s) and don't like those names now.

Cantstopthenoise · 30/05/2024 15:48

Sophie , Katie, Marie or Emily were names I liked for girls growing up, I never used any of them. My Mum imagined me calling my first daughter either Britney or Kylie because they were the female singers me and her Dad both liked.

I wanted to call a boy either Daniel, Liam or Ronan as a teenager.

Spud90 · 30/05/2024 15:48

Damien/Dominic and Rose. I think I was around 9/10. I had a crush on a boy on holiday called Dominic and I had a doll called Rose 🤣 not sure where Damien came from! Hopefully not The Omen.

MercurialMargot · 30/05/2024 16:01

Lily Mae (delighted to have outgrown that one as I treat a very large volume of Lily Mae's at work) and Hugh.

Neither made the cut in the end. I was desperate to call DD Tamsin or Francesca but was vetoed unfortunately!

When I was little, I saw the word 'Demerara' on a bag of sugar, and decided it was the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen Blush

My daughters would have been called Angela and Demerara.

One of my DDs ended up with a name I saw spelt out with broken tiles on a cottage I saw. I had no idea what it meant until I looked it up and found out it was a girls name. Yes I named my child after a house, but I still love it 😂

Debbie

Mh67 · 30/05/2024 16:36

Exactly what I called my son. My choice never changed from when I was young

ToffeePennie · 30/05/2024 16:40

I have two boys and tbh I didn’t see myself as a mum of boys so I had no boys names.
for girls I had picked Arianna (not grande but she’s the lead character from a series of books I loved) or Aurelia.
I also really liked jewel names (emerald, ruby, diamond) and flower names (poppy, daisy, peony) and I loved Ophelia or Olivia.
these days I’m glad I had boys, my girls names were Amelia Elizabeth Lily and Poppy Elizabeth Grace.
so I honestly think having two boys was a blessing

Meggie, after the girl/woman in The Thorn Birds. I loved that film.

I actually did call my DD Meggie after the Thorn Birds book and film!!

Emmz1510 · 30/05/2024 17:16

A boyfriend and I when age 15 decided that we wanted a boy and girl called Fox and Dana…….guess what show we loved??

Pinkcountrybumpkin · 30/05/2024 17:39

My daughter, born last year, has the name I’ve wanted to call a girl since I was tiny. She is ‘Perdie.’ Even my ex congratulated me on ‘getting my Perdie!’ (We are on good terms!)

GetyourheadoutoftheovenIris · 30/05/2024 19:09

@Pinkcountrybumpkin gorgeous name!

Alexa51 · 30/05/2024 20:22

Lauren87654 · 30/05/2024 20:24

I loved Jimberly as a teenager, but unfortunately dh was convinced it was going to become too popular, so that got vetoed 😕
