I bought the Wylera twirly curly hair, cordless, rechargeable thing. Works really well, I can do my hair myself with arthritis. Doesn't last all day unless you put a ton of product on, but an actually helpful gadget.

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 27/05/2024 20:16

Glad you started this thread. What about stuff that you got suckered into from sm? I’ll admit I bought the “ahem” leak proof pants, think they were Cosyfit or something. Utterly shite, I bought a size up, they won’t go above my knees, no stretch and customer services are dire. “Give them a go!” And the waterproof hooded jacket that was all over sm last summer. Waterproof as a paper bag and weird size.

Garlicked · 27/05/2024 20:28

I bought an ultrasonic plaque remover for £25. I didn't expect it to work. It does!

hoarahloux · 27/05/2024 20:45

I was considering Il Makiage foundation but ended up going with DCYPHER. With Il makiage you select which photo looks closest to your skin, with dcypher you take photos in various lighting and send them to the company. No complaints about my foundation match, it's the closest I've ever had.

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 27/05/2024 20:56

How about perfumes? I got the Diem sample set (I complained as I got duplicates and they sent me another) I know they are unisex but I do find most of them a bit masculine. One may be a replacement for MMM Untitled, but they aren’t very long lasting. How about the other dupe companies? Anyone tried them?

TheChippendenSpook · 27/05/2024 21:13

I want to try one of those nail polish pens. I can't remember what they're called.

Herecomesthesunlittledarlinganditsalright · 27/05/2024 21:30

I bought a Revlon 1 hairbrush/dryer gadget. It’s bloody brilliant! And not spendy compared to the likes of the Dyson one. (Particularly paired with the decidedly ungimmicky aquanet hair spray)

I wonder about that Laura Geller baked foundation too.

Geller has been a makeup artist for decades, has been selling her own line of cosmetics for years and years, and the powder foundation is amazing. I've been using it for over two years. Very natural looking and the price point is excellent.

Does it hurt?

Garlicked · 28/05/2024 00:04

@DirtyDensDog, no! The vibration feels a bit odd. It only activates in contact with your teeth, so no danger of accidentally descaling your gums.

zusje · 28/05/2024 00:08

Has anyone bought the really expensive seaweed shampoo from the Cornish Seaweed Bath company? I have and I want to love it (smells nice, the ethos of the company is great, yada yada yada), but my hair just isn't getting on with it. They claim it's the "detox" process from not having sulphates in it, but not sure how much longer to persevere. All the comments on SM (from what look like genuine, real people) are great, so I'd hate to stop using it right as it's about to start working!

milesmachine · 28/05/2024 00:51

I agree with all the comments on Il Makiage.

The colour match first off was terrible but it be fair they sent a replacement free. I used the primer but I found it very thick, matte and drying so after a couple of hours with it on, I began to get noticeable dry patches on my face and it looked terrible.

I also second the positive comments on the Revlon big brush. Everytime I use it my hair looks smooth and like I've walked out of a Salon

PistachioCroissant · 28/05/2024 01:24

I tried Wonderskin and thought it was shit. Hard to apply evenly and didn't last as long as other brands.

I spent £££ on the Philips Lumea hair removal and that worked really well. Would recommend.

I tried Victoria Beckham eyeliner after seeing constant adverts and have no idea what I thought I'd get for all that money, but it wasn't as nice as my usual Beauty Pie eye pencils.

Confusedmeanderings · 28/05/2024 01:26

I spent a fortune on a Phillips Lumea thingy only to find it doesn't work on me.

MegsNaiceJam · 28/05/2024 01:36

I also have the ultrasonic plaque remover, it was like a miracle. Far better removal of stubborn tartar and it has stayed away.

Phillips lumea has been good for me.

I bought an electric facial brush with attachments and that has made a difference too.

KenAdams · 28/05/2024 01:45

Il Makiyage shade matching was bang on for me, like witchcraft but I didn't find their foundation anywhere close to full coverage unfortunately.

RogueFemale · 28/05/2024 01:54

I can only say don't buy stuff advertised on Instagram.

GogAndMagog · 28/05/2024 01:56

I have gua sha, ultrasonic descaler, facial cups, sonic silicone face brush, LED mask.........oh and a big hair. Use them all!

Sandytoesandcrabs · 28/05/2024 04:29

Il Makiage is amazing for me. I have it on auto ship and every time I get a free full size gift so I’ve got loads of their stuff now and it’s all fantastic.

Victoria Beecham eye liner and Trinny eye shadow pots not so much.

also bought the Dyson hairdryer which I ended up swapping with my daughter for her standard Revlon dryer. Just didn’t hold my hair at all.

Sandytoesandcrabs · 28/05/2024 04:29

Beckham! Beecham would be the Wish version

I’ve just ordered one. Fingers crossed!

Ooh which Lumea please?

DirtyDensDog · 28/05/2024 06:21

@Pontipinecity please let me know how you get on with the tooth thingy. I'm very tempted but I find the hygienist at the dentist really really painful and am worried it will be like that.

MuchuseasaChocolateTeapot · 28/05/2024 07:06

Darn it. Just ordered the straightening brush! I’ve got Il Makiage. It’s good as long as you haven’t got newly applied moisturiser underneath, then it’s a patchy disaster.

Laura Geller has been an established make up artist and cosmetic brand for decades.

I wear very little make up these days but, when I did, found the Laura Geller Geller foundation really good. Easy to use (get a good foundation brush) and effective, if you use a light hand. 🌹
