im writing here litreally from observation of a few threads.
One the other day was about a song lyrics which was wrong being about anal sex and some of the posters made out the word sex was crude.
on one today about a women with a hangover all the comments was on 7 year old shouldn’t have been left till 10am.
there was one about a women missing a wedding with a newborn and many people were commenting saying the dad should come back that night (because imagine a women having to look after kids on her own for one night)

i read Mumsnet regularly and I find nearly every other poster to act as if they are middle class have a husband who works a good job. Have never left a child unsupervised for half a hour up to the age 10….

i don’t know if it’s me (I’m a single mum council flat which is temporary) but it seems everyone on here acts as if they live comfortably large houses if you read a thread in houses everyone’s got a en-suite I got 3 people in one room 🤣 and I’m not jelous I had a horrible life that I’ve left now have a degree and nearly a home of my own and I’m really happy just wondered if it’s fake Reply’s , fake OPs or that genuinely the demographic of users.

OP posts:
Minfilia · 26/05/2024 21:48

I have a good job. My DH has a good job. And we didn’t leave our young kids unsupervised, because surely that’s just basic parenting? We were always up before they were. I’m still an early riser now and I’m usually up by 7.

I had a horrific childhood though, and lived in poverty, but worked my arse off so I’d have a better adult life.

I could be a travelling circus elephant with a good grasp of English though. But personally I would find it odd to lie on an anonymous forum, although Im sure plenty do…

TwattyMcFuckFace · 26/05/2024 21:51

People have always lied on the internet, and MN is nowhere near as middle class as a lot of people think.

The posts you're talking about just stand out more than the mundane ones about average jobs and homes.

dazzlingdoll · 26/05/2024 21:52

😂😂😂 fake like you 😂

Mademetoxic · 26/05/2024 21:53

Everyone lives 'rurally' and on aibu yesterday people were supposedly going about 4 big holidays in a year!

Pixiesgirl · 26/05/2024 21:55

I have seen a few people mention that several posts that are posted as current ones they have read before word for word.

I think mn hasn't attracted new members so much hence the lack of baby posts compared to before. I think they might be recycling old content to make it look busier.

Brawcolli · 26/05/2024 21:56

The thread with the hungover mum was absolutely ridiculous, people were acting like she was a drunk who regularly used her child as some
sort of hangover nurse 😆 I don’t know about fakeness but the sheer nastiness of some posters is just pathetic!

Octavia64 · 26/05/2024 21:59

I'm actually a dog,

leavingabusetoday · 26/05/2024 22:00

I don't dislike Mumsnet at all I think it's extremely positive I've seen a thread when someone was not feeling kicks and it saved the babies life as well as women having hand holds In not nice situations. Also had support in a time I needed it on here.

But it seemed some people get what I meant if you read threads it comes across like everyone's rural as another poster mentioned or have ensuits and children seem to all be busy and dh have hobbies that are outing.

As well as some posts like the hangover women just seemed to be fake.

I also don't think anyone needs a husband to earn more. My own friend is a stay at home dad whilst his wife works as her money was in a better postotiom that way then paying nursery fees and him working full time.

I don't think I wrote it correctly but I just wondered

  1. is the demographic likely to be what it appears to be reading threads And 2) are alot of OPs fake.
OP posts:
babasaclover · 26/05/2024 22:02

It used to be so good. I absolutely needed the sage advice when had a baby 8 years ago.

Now though all you get is ridiculous posts made up by sit so called journalised pretending to be real users to rile up the internet and then write a story about it in the daily mail tomorrow as if it's real news. Such a shame.

pizzaHeart · 26/05/2024 21:34

@DancingNotDrowning we need to introduce National service for people like you, to get you out of your bubble.
😉

Fortunately I’m one of the posh middle classes who won’t experience anything like military service - maybe a bit of light volunteering at the National Gallery or something…😉

DistinguishedSocialCommentator · 26/05/2024 22:12

OP
You are correct to a certain extend. However, as they say, facts can be stranger than fiction

MN is an eye opener re problems with next door, schools, Facebook, parties, weddings, parties, friends etc etc

If you feel its "fake" - just ignore and move on

What gets me is small group of posters that go around mocking other posters, inciting others to mock posters etc and sadly some do join in

I find that many MN are unforgiving and lack compassion re certain subjects

However, it is a very helpful place for most people and even historical threads searched via google eseucally re health can be very helpful for reasssrung etc

Take care

Oblomov24 · 26/05/2024 22:13

Yawn. Bye then.
Why fake. All sounds normal. £175k woman all normal.
What a load of shit. Where is the fake?

Youdontevengohere · 26/05/2024 22:14

I’ve never left my 10 year old home alone 😬.
MN has a fairly affluent demographic. Of course there will be some absolute bollocks being spouted on some threads, but in general I think people are being truthful.

Ariela · 26/05/2024 22:15

The vast majority of social media is fake, as is much of Mumsnet. And so am I.

IRL I'd never say anything like as much as I do on here.

What did you expect @leavingabusetoday ?

Oblomov24 · 26/05/2024 22:17

The £175k thread was actually very interesting if you bothered to read.

Isseywith3witchycats · 26/05/2024 22:17

Im not middle class at all very midlands working class have worked at jobs from cleaning to cheffing, yes ive got a degree but i did it part time after i was 40 just to prove to myself i could do it, and paid for it as i was working OH has always worked very high flying jobs in academia and computer programming but still working class, educated to PHD level since we met 10 years ago he has retired and his pension draw down let us buy a small two bedroom semi with no ensuite lol for cash so yes we are comfortable now in retirement and realise i am lucky i met him

marie3e · 26/05/2024 22:17

No I believe alot of it is fake, from the way new topics come up from discussions giving them ideas especially politically, just seems all content-ey, even usernames seem contrived; the way everyone has the same opinion, lacking insight, then suddenly everyone's opinion changes, the way people are so mean as well isn't normal compared to other forums

MrsJackThornton · 26/05/2024 22:19

But it seemed some people get what I meant if you read threads it comes across like everyone's rural as another poster mentioned

It depends on your perception and what threads you need. I've seen threads where people refuse to believe you don't have a bus stop within 100 yards and a train station within a few miles. They might call a big town rural but many posters haven't actually got a clue what real rural is and cannot think outside of their bubble to understand, for example, why people might need a car.

There is no one defined MN user, it varies massively

Yup, when the pandemic was brewing it was all "your mental for stocking up" "it's just a cold" "get a grip".

To aghh you don't need milk, put cheese in your coffee, I'm soooo vulnerable I need to disinfect the postman.

GalileoHumpkins · 26/05/2024 22:22

Next you'll be telling us the massive salad eaters are lying 🤯

And now back to "look at all those stupid people who followed the rules, I just did whatever I wanted" from some of the same posters

RomanRoysSearchHistory · 26/05/2024 22:27

I joined Mumsnet when my son was 6 months old, he's almost 21 now. I'm a single, working-class northerner. It always seemed to be predominantly middle-class users until the last 10 years or so I'd say. I don't see much fakery, other than the obvious trolling. I enjoy reading all the different life experiences and perspectives that you wouldn't necessarily find anywhere else. It's gone massively downhill since the riff raff found it though and that's just my opinion. It was all so very naice til then.

Pixiesgirl · 26/05/2024 22:27

Oh yes @MrsJackThornton@MrsJackThornton, in actuality threads were banned left right and centre for having even slightly dissenting views at the time.

Oblomov24 · 26/05/2024 22:29

8 million posters, 25k posts per day, what do you think the dynamic is? Can't all be fake then can they?
