The general feeling on social media is that the Tories will be obliterated in the upcoming GE. AIBU to not be surprised if they get voted in again?

I'll be voting Labour as I have always done.

What they can't fix without independence is the NHS, although maybe we need to think about the long term anyway

You do know that health is a devolved issue? The SNP have every opportunity to improve health, education and social care currently with existing powers.

AwaaFaeHom · 23/05/2024 11:14

Probably SNP. The fight here is between SNP and Lib Dems. Lib Dems will probably get in, but I would rather a representative that is part of a party that are more likely to have their voice heard. The Lib Dems are not that.

jay55 · 23/05/2024 11:51

Dunno what options I have yet.
Live in a safe labour seat so it doesn't really matter.

Lilifer · 23/05/2024 11:54

@Churchview I am no fan of Tony Blair

Nanalisa60 · 23/05/2024 12:45

Having lived with a few Labour governments I’m terrified of what this country will be like in ten years time. So it’s Torry for me , even considering REFORM put that might be a step to far. But I have noticed the MSM are completely ignoring Reform Like they don’t exist !! Which make me wonder why are the scared of what they have to say!!

Nanalisa60 · 23/05/2024 12:51

SORRY SNP more likely to have your voice heard !! They have been in power for nearly two decades, and listening to the people is not what they have done, there own grass roots are walking away form them.

rockingbird · 23/05/2024 12:57

@Polishedshoesalways I'm with you! If we think things are bad now.. hold onto your hats. I'm actually contemplating leaving the country more seriously than ever.

They haven't been in power in Westminster, which is the election we are facing, and nor will they ever be.

But the Lib Dems are ineffective at best. At worst, I've been represented by people that have shown themselves to be completely untrustworthy and misogynistic. I've been represented by them almost my entire life, and I have voted for them in the past. But unless something significant changes, they will not be getting my vote.

So I either vote for a party that doesn't stand a chance in my constituency, or I vote SNP. Who at least stand up for Scotland at Westminster. I don't see the Lib Dems doing that any time soon.

User24676677 · 23/05/2024 13:03

Conservative. Although I live in a safe and predictable Labour seat.

I am somewhat torn, I feel conservative need some time off the governing seats to reset, however do I trust labour with the economy, with womens rights, with strong policy and growth as a company? No I don't. And so eventhough my vote won't change my constituency seat I will be voting conservative

Anjo2011 · 23/05/2024 13:07

Rishi and Keir are both dire leaders. It’s a bit like asking whether you’d like to die by firing squad or lethal injection.

dollybird · 23/05/2024 13:12

No idea yet. Last time there was only Conservative, Labour, Lib Dem and Green to vote for in my constituency, and I don't want to vote for any of them! Current MP is Tory, but he is standing in a neighbouring constituency due to boundary changes. Lib Dems are likely to win here, but that would be terrible for local issues. Think the country needs a change but don't trust any of them tbh.

We don’t know what kind of leader Starmer would be yet. He’s done a spectacularly good job of reuniting a divided party and making it electable so it’s pretty unfair to label him as dire.

"Every opportunity", while operating under greater stricture than the UK Government, and still delivering better performance.

How, precisely, are devolved governments meant to outperform Westminster, when Westminster has far more control and broader options, yet produces an even poorer result?

Cantgetausername87 · 23/05/2024 13:21

I was so sure that the tories would be out at the last GE so I don't think Labour have it in the bag. Fwiw I will be voting Labour even though my constituency is staunch tory and won't change!

Opalfleur2025 · 23/05/2024 13:22

Green or Labour.

My heart says vote green but my constituency is Tory. the MP is stepping down due to antisemitism but so the tory candidate would be a new face and i want the labour candidate to win.

So if it looks clear to me by July that she is going to win, I would vote Green. I would vote Labour if there is a chance she would lose.

I used to think she was a shoo in but now i am not so sure

wickerlady · 23/05/2024 13:24

Anyone but Labour!

Don't know yet. I will most likely vote tactically, but I shouldn't have to. I should just vote for who I want to.

It won't be Tory or reform as they have all lost the plot.

I'm disappointed with all parties on SEND education and housing. Whoever has the best policies on these things, the NHS and the economy.

I don’t think they can increase on SEND. The total bill is now over £10 billion a year and that’s a 60% increase from 2019 alone. The entire primary and secondary budget is £80 billion. It’s massive, and lots of local authorities are going bankrupt. I really think they need to get a grip on why the numbers are increasing.

But they don't have control over their budget, which is decided by Westminster, so they have to manage within the constraints of the pocket money the chancellor gives them.

With the full economic power that independence would bring, major investment could be made in all areas where needed, rather than operating on a limited budget as of now.

the Barnett formula mean they get more than they would if devolved fully

LakieLady · 23/05/2024 14:09

I live in a Con/LD marginal, so I'll be voting tactically for the LD candidate. A Labour vote here is wasted, otherwise I'd vote Labour.

For others who are in a similar position, there's an online guide here:

How To Vote To Stop The Tories

This site shows which way you should vote to stop the Tories from getting into power again

Not labour 😂 so fuck knows right now. Maybe I’ll let one of the kids pick on the day.

I wouldn't do that if I were you. Mine wanted me to vote for Count Binface for London Mayor because his manifesto included fixing the price of croissants at £1.20 or less. (I didn't go with his recommendation btw)

No, they actually get less than if "devolved fully", if by that you mean independence. Barnett gives the devolved nations a pro-rata percentage of whatever England's budget is, regardless of hoe much these nations pay into the pot. Scotland gets back approximately 80% of what it pays in, versus keeping 100% of its own money as most normal independent countries do.

MariaVT65 · 23/05/2024 14:37

I will be waiting to see what info comes out of the campaigns and more detailed manifestos before I make up my mind. I want to see more detail about how money will be spent by Labour. Never voted them before. I will also be looking at whether they intend to change the increased nursery hours funding that is what most has the immediate impact in our household.

I will be voting Labour but my vote will count for nothing as even if the local Tory was caught stabbing kittens they would get elected where I live.
