No, I don’t think a Labour government will set the world on fire, and I’m not particularly excited by the prospect but BLOODY HELL I can’t wait to see the back of this lot.

Stick them all on a plane to Rwanda.

I’ve got everything crossed that Rees Mogg in particular loses his seat.

Angela Rayner for one is a revolting aggressive childish vindictive woman. She is way too irrational and emotional to be making any decisions that matter to anyone's life. I can't see how anyone can have any respect for her at all, she behaves abominably, consistently.

Seen Dame(!) Andrea Jenkyns lately?

I’ve just had a conversation with someone who thinks we should have Boris back as PM so although I very much agree with the OP and will skip into the voting booth to tick a non-Tory box I think it might sadly still be a close run thing in my area!

That's clearly not someone who "thinks".

I can't wait to see her booted out. She used to be my MP.

Has everyone missed that the Tories have been raising taxes by freezing the tax thresholds while wages increase? And then pretending that they are the party of not raising taxes?

Yeah apparently just saying you are a low tax party makes it true even if you are charging the highest taxes for 70 years, amazing.

Oh do fuck off dear.

would you rather Labour loving benefit Britain hand out all your hard earned money and high taxes to the scroungers???? Because believe me, they will and worse!!

I don’t particularly like our current Tory government. However, a Labour one will be hugely more damaging.
this country is screwed!

I suppose you would rather it be handed off to their tax evading, already incredibly rich, friends?

I'm not willing to throw sick people, single mothers and people on the bones of their arse under the bus just because some people living in poverty spend the few quid they get in hand outs on fags. A lot of these claimants will be working families claiming universal credit, because wages are so shit they can't make enough to make ends meet. The idea of pedelling hate for poor people is really out dated, because a lot of the people who regarded themselves as middle class are realising they are far closer to the bread line than they thought with cost of living and interest hikes. There is no shame in being poor, there is shame in being judgemental, ill informed and cruel.

The "economy being ruined by scroungers" line is as boring and tiresome as it is moronic, yet it's still trotted out by Tories and their shills.

"Labour will ruin the country, they always do!". Again, based on nothing factual whatsoever, when any cursory glance at history shows its invariably Tories that asset-strip the UK and leave the economy in the toilet.

The idea what we can't afford to support the elderly, infirm, or out of work for lack of funds is patently ridiculous, considering the same people never ever breathe a word about the vast amounts squandered on nonsense like HS2, useless aircraft carriers, wholesale government pilfering and misuse of "covid" money, batshit mental schemes to fly half-a-dozen people to Rwanda, etc etc

Somehow the complete tripe spouted by the likes of the Mail, GB News etc still sinks in to the public conscience. I really shouldn't use the word "conscience", because you'd need a zip up the back of your head not to see it for the absolute garbage it is.

Callipygion · 23/05/2024 16:04

As far as I’m concerned as long as labour go after the tax evaders first they can put the so-called scroungers on the back burner.

Those who are saying ‘I live in a Tory safe seat’ need to look at the predicted vote shares because apparently there are very few safe Tory seats anymore.

https://x.com/samfr/status/1793624674569773235?s=46&t=vKGM6xpoeW3wdlaVVVagQA

E.g. Suella Braverman had a majority of 23,000 in 2019 and her seat looks like it could go.

The policy driver for me would be the party that offered to invest the most money in to education and young people - sadly I don't see any party with such an agenda mainly because young people can't or don't vote.

I'm sure both parties will be promising that in the run up to the GE!

Knowing the world, the Tories will wreck everything before they leave so that Labour look like they're crap. Then we'll vote the Tories back in just as they're getting the hang of it.

What you mean is Labour will mess everything up and blame the Tories

There’s not much scope for messing everything up. The Tories have already done that.

noblegiraffe · 23/05/2024 21:31

So the Tories pump shit into rivers, make it so no one can see a GP or a dentist, defund schools to the point where the buildings are going to literally collapse on children's heads and there's no one to teach them, stoke division, antagonism and racism, put up mortgages, create a need for hundreds of food banks and, in the winter, warm spaces because people can't afford to eat or put the heating on? A country where nothing seems to work properly, the trains are permanently on strike, councils are on the brink of collapse, children's mental health is in crisis, pupils with SEND are being failed on a massive scale and kids are routinely just not turning up to school. Not enough hospital beds, not enough space in prison, not enough housing, no money left.

And people look at this and think 'it would be a shame if Labour came along and messed it all up'??

Exactly, it's all this that I'm worried about.
It's becoming increasingly harder to see a Dr nearly impossible
Prices of everything is through the roof, basically everything you said.
They're my concerns.
Not all these culture war shit they keep stoking up, enough already.

It's a matter of time, or the lack of it.

Parliament has to be dissolved next week in order to facilitate a July 4th Election, so there is literally no time for Sunak's clown troupe to push through most of their hare-brained schemes. Right now they are busy discussing with the Opposition what they can actually railroad through with minimal fuss, and minimal opposition, but anything contentious or requiring multiple readings will simply be shelved, and as it looks likely we'll see a different Government returned in July, most if it will be taken off that shelf and dumped in the bin.

This is one of the things that has constantly been ignored by the "but the Tories will protect Women and Girls" cadre on here, i.e. all the talk and hot air produced nothing of substance and was never likely to in the first place, given there was next to no parliamentary time to actually turn any of it into Law, so for all the championing of Badenoch, all she's actually done is knowingly lead a load of gullible single-issue fanatics up the garden path.

Nat6999 · 24/05/2024 00:51

All the money wasted on Rwanda

The PPE scandal

Bankers bonuses
The state of water sewage in rivers & on beaches, the state of drinking water.
The state of the NHS & Social Care, waiting lists need cutting, too many people can't work due to needing treatment. The lack of mental health support, children waiting over 2 years for an SEN diagnosis. Cancer care, the 2 week wait is more often than not missed. People being dumped in corridors in A & E, Ambulance wait times.

Lack of investment in infrastructure, the railways, roads, cutting parts of HS2

Housing, we need a massive amount of new homes, in particular social housing. Build more properties suitable for disables people, things like level access, all doorways wide enough for a wheelchair, less flats & more bungalows in social housing. Make developers of large developments build shops, doctors & dental surgeries, schools etc & pay a levy towards public transport. Put solar panels & battery storage in every new home, insulate every home in the country to the same standard, make buying solar panels & batteries cheaper, invest in green energy, free upgrades to heat pump boilers for every household with an income of less than £60k.
Building more homes & investment in green energy would create jobs, homes can be built smarter, more modular development, a modern version of prefabs would mean an estate could be built in less than half the time it takes for traditional housing to be built.

Education, we need improvements in all schools, why should where you live denote the standard of education you get. Better SEN education, more specialist schools & units. Bring back Sure Start, integrate it into schools, use it in breakfast & after school clubs, involve parents at school before children start school. More nursery places, bring back the Youth Service, open youth clubs so kids are off the streets & less likely to be involved in gangs, drugs, knife & petty crime. Let children who aren't likely to pass GCSE's start apprenticeships at 14, stop setting up kids to fail. Get rid of SATS, reform OFSTED.

Support for disabled & elderly, better in home care, more adapted housing, care training in line with the structure of nursing training, pay family members who care for loved ones in line with a carers salary. Give disabled people their dignity back, end the cruel assessment process for disability benefits, give disabled people the adaptions they need in their homes on day 1 so they can maintain their independence. Stop the elderly & disabled having to spend their life savings on care or nursing homes, let them pay the equivalent of a fair rent for their room, but fund all care including personal & medical care. Increase the state pension in line with what other countries pay, pay pension credit without having to apply, the DWP can check bank accounts & know how much money is coming in, why make it so difficult. Pay elderly & disabled people enough so they don't have to choose between heating & eating. Increase tax thresholds so less pensioners & benefit claimants are getting pushed into paying tax.

Bring the retirement age back down to increase the jobs market for young people, if workers are working longer there aren't vacancies for younger people to start work. Ban fire & rehire, pay a real living wage, increase workers rights, make more jobs family friendly or pay a wage that is enough for one parent to be able to not work & care for children or elderly relatives.

That's just a few of the reasons we need a change of government & what we need to change, there are probably thousands more.

Looks like political suicide to me. I’m beginning to think Sunak’s really a member of the Labour Party.

My thoughts as well. The current polls show Labour at over 20% ahead, even if you factor in the closet Tory voters then it still looks a dead cert that Labour will win.

If Sunak genuinely wanted to win the next election he would have been better off waiting until the autumn in the desperate hope that some event happened that changed things. And if it didn't then he would still lose.

So either go for an election in July which he will lose or an election in Autumn when he is highly likely to lose with a very outside chance of pulling it off.
