Of course, everyone has to do something, so this is light-hearted.

But which jobs would be red flags for you and you can't imagine going out with someone who does this?

Mine would be-

Tory MP/aide/minister- or anything to do with the Tory party
Scaffolder
Stripper
Porn star
PT/fitness instructor/gym owner
Nightclub owner/ manager

Interesting to hear yours!

Ooh, I'm going to attempt to be controversial and add SAHD to the list. Not many of them, but I wouldn't be keen.

IT roles are a good source of blokes who are decently paid and relatively flexible. Generally well educated, not usually that into sports.

WetBandits · 21/05/2024 12:29

Military. Been there, done that, got cheated on. 😂

NO FANX

ManilowBarry · 21/05/2024 12:29

Labour MP/aide/minister- or anything to do with the Labour party.

Manual worker or labourer. Anything unskilled.

Low earner.

Butcher.

Works in an abattoir.

Medical profession.

Sex worker.

Dancer.

Teacher.

Works for The Guardian.

VillageLite · 21/05/2024 12:31

I don’t think any job would be an automatic no from me.
Though I wouldn’t really like something dangerous that involves lots of time away - military or similar. But I expect for the right person you would get past that.

But I would easily be put off by certain hobbies (I have a list as long as my arm!)

You have to have a job to pay the bills, and some people just fall into certain things. I don’t really think it’s fair to judge someone for their job.
On the other hand their hobbies are an insight into who they really are.

ICantThinkofAnythingClever · 21/05/2024 12:33

Police or army- they have much higher rates of abusing their partners than the general population. I would avoid as a rule. What I've heard over the years from friends who've dated policemen only reinforced my decision.

KreedKafer · 21/05/2024 12:33

Oh, I have a list longer than my arm. I'm going to leave out things like criminals and the sex industry, as to be honest I think most people would take that as given.

  • Management consultant
  • Armed forces
  • Gamekeeper
  • Farmer
  • Chef/restaurateur/bar owner
  • Sales rep
  • Banker/trader/stockbroker/fund manager/finance in general
  • Pest controller
  • Actor/comedian/singer/any kind of performer at all really
  • Anyone who worked for a right-wing political party, think tank, campaign group. lobbying group etc
  • Alternative therapist of any kind
  • 'Nutritionist' (a proper dietician is fine though)
  • CEO
  • Start-up tech bro
  • Recruitment consultant

I could probably go on.

CurlewKate · 21/05/2024 12:33

Anything to do with the "sex industry". Bailiff. Anything connected with the Conservative Party. Armed Services. Police.

Youcannotbeseriousreally · 21/05/2024 12:34

Police officer.

I’ve not met one yet who can stay faithful!

CurlewKate · 21/05/2024 12:34

Anything to do with the gambling industry.

Mischance · 21/05/2024 12:34

Armed forces
Hedge fund manager, or similar gambling with others' money.

thecatneuterer · 21/05/2024 12:36

All animal related:

Abattoir worker/butcher
Livestock farmer
Cat/dog/rabbit breeder
Anyone involved in animal testing

A vet, however, would be my dream match.

Bluesclues1 · 21/05/2024 12:37

Pilot. I used to be cabin crew and sadly a lot of them live up the stereotype of forgetting they have wives when down route!

OhHelloMiss · 21/05/2024 12:37

Anyone in a desk job who works 9-5/months-fri!

OhHelloMiss · 21/05/2024 12:38

*mon/fri

thecatneuterer · 21/05/2024 12:38

Oh (and I realise I've been watching too much Top Boy), I would also give drug dealers/OCG members a swerve.

HebburnPokemon · 21/05/2024 12:39

Anyone in a desk job who works 9-5/months-fri!

But a non-desk 9-5 job is fine?

thecatneuterer · 21/05/2024 12:40

I forgot pest controller.

Also musician - if touring/in a band. Bad experience there.

CloudPop · 21/05/2024 12:40

Anyone unemployed by choice.

KreedKafer · 21/05/2024 12:40

I don't get a lot of these

You don't need to 'get' them though - it's a personal preference thing isn't it? It doesn't have to be rational or reasonable. People just generally know the kinds of people they're attracted to. I have friends and relatives in some of the jobs I've mentioned in my list.

Chirawehaha · 21/05/2024 12:42

I’m married now, but I only ever dated uni educated ‘professionals’ (not intentionally, it’s just how things worked out) - so surgeons, lawyers, management consultants. Professions that are high on people’s ‘no’ lists. 🤣

I think the only jobs that would have made my kill list are recruitment consultants and estate agents. I’ve never met a single one I liked and it seems a bit of a pointless waste of your one life.

Iknownothing · 21/05/2024 12:42

Anyone in the public eye. I have no desire to be plastered and scrutinised across any form of media.
Anyone who doesn’t share my values but that is more than just a job.
Probably anyone who has any form of risk in their job - so military, police, prison officer etc - I wouldn’t want to be at home worrying each day.

FairGoldSheep · 21/05/2024 12:43

@BobbyBiscuits what's wrong with being a pt/gym owner?

SpinyNorma · 21/05/2024 12:44

"Influencer"
MLM-er
Chugger

Westfacing · 21/05/2024 12:45

Has anyone mentioned estate agents?

Startingagainandagain · 21/05/2024 12:45

-Tory politician/adviser
-Slaughterhouse worker & butcher (I am vegan)
-anyone who works in a lab & experiments on animals
-police & army
-parasitic hedge funds managers
-estate agents
-bailiffs
-people who write for the Daily Mail, Sun, Express...
-religious leaders (those who are allowed to marry) as I can't stand all that nonsense.
