BobbyBiscuits · 21/05/2024 11:27

Of course, everyone has to do something, so this is light-hearted.

But which jobs would be red flags for you and you can't imagine going out with someone who does this?

Mine would be-

Tory MP/aide/minister- or anything to do with the Tory party
Scaffolder
Stripper
Porn star
PT/fitness instructor/gym owner
Nightclub owner/ manager

Interesting to hear yours!

@Boomer55
"I wouldn’t care what sort of job anyone had. I look at the person. Having said that, anyone unemployed would put me off."

That made me laugh. The lack of self awareness is staggering!

Another vote for Police, due to their reputation/attitude towards women.

What? All of them?

Chirawehaha · 21/05/2024 19:17

Ragingbull1 · 21/05/2024 17:48

You don't know what you're talking about I'm afraid.

He was drafted, then?

So, you don't know any Police Officers, you've never been a Police Officer, but you think you know more than myself, who has actually been a Police Officer for 5 years and who is married to a Police Officer who has been one for 20 years?

Got to love the armchair know it all's. Give your head a wobble.

So, because you personally know a few police officers, your views are more valid than the findings of multiple inquiries and the statements of the NPCC?

I don’t think I’m the one who needs to give their head a wobble.

EverythingYouDoIsaBalloon · 21/05/2024 19:43

I generally find public sector workers to have an entitled mindset.

Well, obviously I can't comment on your experiences but it's quite the sweeping generalisation. It wasn't my experience during the years I worked in the public sector, put it that way.

RubberyChicken · 21/05/2024 19:46

I would find someone who thought that to be the entitled one

My best mate is a teacher, he doesn't usually work past 4.30. He goes in early though.

What’s wrong with a scaffolder? Are you worried they might fall off?!!

I was wondering that too - baffled! 😁

What's the problem with scaffolders?

Putting up scaffolding is an absolute no but a roofer or tall building window cleaner is ok?

The only job I'd be put off by is someone who doesn't have one

Edited

Scaffolders tend to be massive coke heads

chocolatecoveredpeanut · 21/05/2024 20:10

I really can't understand why people come onto threads to declare they are somehow morally better than everyone else on the thread because the thread is stupid/typical of MN/not right because...

As with life - don't chew on a sandwich if you think it's made of turd.

@Revelatio something like that. Lol. I guess I don't think they seem massively trustworthy or sophisticated, even for me, an unemployed benefits claimant. Haha.
That's probably awful. I'm sure they are fine...

Well mine is perfectly trustworthy. Yes he is intelligent ( enough to retire 17 years early) He loves poetry and is favourite writer is Sir Walter Scott and he can speak more than one language. Yes he can also swear like a Navvy and drink like a sailor but you will be hard pushed to find someone as honest as he is. Don't judge a book !

RM2013 · 21/05/2024 20:14

Politician
influencers/you tubers
sex industry worker
anyone that travels a lot for work
shift workers (I worked shifts for many years and it’s hard on family life)

Hateam · 21/05/2024 20:16

I'd be put off by people like the OP.

Yeah pretty much. No-one messes with a scaffolder tbf. Even my scary neighbour who complains every single day about the building work didn’t dare to tell the scaffolder off (just muttered under her breath 😅)

My DH is a builder so I’m obviously biased but the younger trades are normally lovely and nothing like the stereotypical old school lot so don’t write them all off.

IpsyUpsyDaisyDoos · 21/05/2024 20:27

If I really liked someone, I don't think their job would put me off.

But, I always feel a bit "ick" when someone says they work in politics. Because more often than not they are willing to compromise their values for their career progression.

MargoLivebetter · 21/05/2024 11:50

Any sewage related profession (couldn't cope with the smell)

I misread that as “sausage related profession”😂

Choochoo21 · 21/05/2024 20:34

I’m really shocked by some of these replies.

As long as someone is working (or is only temporarily unemployed) then their job wouldn’t come into it.

Most people work because they need the money and so I wouldn’t judge anyone who was a traffic warden etc because I know they’re just doing their job.

No job would put me off apart from perhaps a stripper/sex worker.

I want to say someone who works in a slaughter house but then I eat meat and so I can’t really judge them on that else I’d be a hypocrite.

I’d also want to say an influencer but then I don’t see that as a proper job anyway.
